The flavors all blended well together, the peach compote and honey on top added a touch of sweetness. I would highly recommend trying this food item. The bagel was a bit too doughy for our taste and we wish it would have been toasted a bit longer. The latte's were good and they used oatly as the oat milk substitution. This place was wonderful. I've only been in town for a little bit so decided to explore Colorado Springs on foot and came across this happenin' spot. Building: It's design is modern and fresh but the building is old so it's got that certain charm to it as well! Lots of outdoor seating and ample parking. Service: No chance of your barista misspelling your name here because they'll just bring your order right out to you. That's becoming more and more unique these days and while I'm not advocating for customer laziness, it's nice to be treated like this. Love this spot! This is kinda my go to shop, living within walking distance. I love how Switchback is nestled in a neighborhood and doesn't stick out. It feels like it belongs and has been there forever. On a hot day, the sweet 50/50 coffee is delicious. However, when it's cold outside I usually go for a cup of drip. They have a pay-what-you-can system in regards to their drip, which is super unique. The staff is super friendly and the coffee is great! It's been a little over 6 months since I got to come back to the springs. I was ready for this treat! Visit number 3 did NOT disappoint. I was concerned at first that the bread would not hold up and would be too soggy by the time we got back to apartment. It did not have that issue. It was just as fantastic as it was dining in the first time. The classic Vanilla Latte was a nice warm touch too on the cool morning. The space was well cleaned per pandemic restrictions. All employees were masked and so were the customers ordering. The seating was so spaced out and even the patio was pleasantly spaced as well. It was a step above what was needed. There was obviously a line that I had no intention to cut but the server didn't seem to understand that I like to have some time to decide what I'd like to order. We were in town for family gathering, so didn't really have time for coffee tasting around town. I narrowed it down to this place and Story Coffee Company, but decided to come here because there is more choices here for my husband who doesn't drink coffee. I visited Switchback Coffee Roasters twice during my stay in Colorado Springs. The first time I ordered a hot chai latte with almond milk (note: almond and oat are their two non-dairy options). The barista informed me that the chai was particularly spicy and indeed it was. I enjoyed the strong flavors but if a more subtle chai is your preference, I suggest another menu item. I paired my tea with a vegan/gluten free scone. I chose a sour cherry scone with lemon glaze and it was phenomenal! The chewy cherries, textured oats, and melt-on-your-tongue icing made for a flavorful contrast. I cannot recommend this enough! On my second visit, I ordered a hot matcha latte with almond milk. There were some clumps of unsifted matcha in my drink but I was so delighted to have matcha in my hands again that I did not mind. This time, I paired my latte with a vegan/gluten-free chocolate chip scone. This scone seemed a bit smaller and was much softer. I thoroughly enjoyed the creamy chocolate featured in this baked good but the cherry scone remains my favorite! As for the atmosphere, the baristas were friendly and the shop was bustling with regulars and new visitors alike. There was ample seating both inside and out. Friendly environment- but two quick notes from my experience today. 1) ordered an Americano with steamed cream to drink at the cafe. When asked if I wanted milk, I said no, I want cream that has been steamed. Coffee came out and it wasn't cream. I said nothing, but before I left I ordered a drip coffee with cream to go and I was told there was no cream, only milk. Meh... 2) The so called ham on the breakfast sandwich tastes nothing like ham. I inquired about it bc I honestly thought I was eating roast beef and I was told it's not like a cured ham rather a savory ham. Whatever you want to call it, it's not good. My friend got a mocha. We both got them with oat milk. .... as someone that has very high expectations for lattes, this did not disappoint. I was pleasantly surprised by the brown sugar syrup!! The ambiance is also adorable, which makes it that much better. But the best part of the whole experience was the lovely staff. This coffee shop has a homely feel, as it is located within a residential neighborhood. Thankfully, there was open street parking right in front of the shop that morning due to a pending snow storm. The cranberry orange scone ($5.10) is the best scone I've ever had - it's not very sweet. The avocado toast ($13.91) took about 10 minutes to arrive, but was incredibly fresh and delicious - the bread was abundant and high quality, the avocado chunky, the egg yolk bright orange, and the red sauce had an sweet/sour/spicy Asian flair. The girl at the checkout counter calmly and patiently recommended the best beans for the average drinker - I purchased the Bolivia Gesha as a souvenir.
