Dreadful care for geriatric patients, I could outline a litany of neglect of my mother, cancelled meds 'by mistake' twice in 3 days but then they could't tell me whose signature was on the chart to cancel. Seriously and they expected me to accept that. I don't believe the issue was they were short staffed-they just neglect geriatric patients. Woeful Covid control too. read more
This place is a joke. I'm someone who unfortunately has quite a bit of experience visiting ERs courtesy of a lot of bad sprains, broken bones, high fevers, fainting, etc. My visit to Sydney Adventist is my second worst yet, only behind Georgetown Hospital in Washington DC. I was sent to Adventist on the recommendation of a doctor at the site of my injury where I blew out my knee at the beach. I decided, sure I'll visit there, it's far but if I'm gonna pay I may as well go to the place with an orthopedist on staff who can see me. That orthopedist was one I never saw. Instead I saw a doctor for about 90 seconds and was diagnosed. I was told "I don't have x-ray vision but I think it's---" followed by my diagnosis. He said the only way to make sure of what it is (and thus determine exactly what I need to do) was to get an MRI yet he refused to order it. While the nurses were nice the fact that it took 3 hours to see a doctor who never introduced himself or mentioned his qualifications and definitely didn't care about my concerns as a patient, drives Sydney Adventist to a 1 star rating. But hey, they do validate parking if you visit the ER. read more

Despite being all the way north of the Sydney Harbour bridge and going through some construction issues at my time of visit, the SAN is fairly well setup. The car parking is relatively easy to find and there is a lot of it. They have mini buses that come to the car park and deliver you up to the main entrance every 10min (round trip). Parking is paid, but $15 for 6 hours was OK to me, someone used to paying steeper fees in Sydney. The main building is going through some work and they are setting up a new covered car park (hence all the construction), but it was relatively easy to navigate the SAN main building and the staff are reasonably friendly. As always, it's a hospital so fees are steep to cover all the doctors stupidly excessive public liability insurance fees as well as all the other stuff Dr's have to cover. There are excessive amounts of paperwork if you are a patient, so have patience (pun intended) as well as leaving yourself lots of time. I won't be rushing back anytime soon (who does?), but if its my only choice of hospital, I won't be disappointed. read more
The San is well known for being one great hospital to visit or being a patient in. There are a number of people to help you when you arrive to go to the correct place, I was totally lost! Thank you to the volunteers! They are wonderful. The staff were lovely and considerate. I even had a laugh in a awkward situation. Love positive receptionists and nurses. read more

Very happy with my visit to the San ER. The staff were always pleasant and helpful. I had fallen and split my eyebrow. The doctor who sowed me up did a great job. About 11 stitches across my eyebrow and yet today it's almost invisible. Very happy with it. My only criticism of the San is that few weeks later when I was trying to pay for my care there it was somewhat confusing. Hopefully they've simplified that process now. Australians such as myself perhaps aren't as used to paying for medical treatment but I thought the cost of treatment was fair and reasonable. Thanks a lot for your excellent care. read more

The staff here have been incredible. They are very efficient, caring and attend to your every need. Every face here had been a smiling face and the care I have received has been perfect. Would prefer a few more TV channels but that's the only negative I can think of. read more

The service at the hospital was good; although, they kept me overnight when I was good to go as soon as they received my blood test results and saw that I was fine. Financially, they were horrible. I paid for my stay when I left and asked if Medicare covered any of it and they said no. I was under the impression I paid for everything but then a few weeks later, I received a text message saying they'd send debt collectors after me and then shortly after that I received a cheque from Medicare that covered the rest of what I owed. When I handed that cheque in, I very clearly asked if that was it and I was told I didn't owe anything more. Then, a few days ago I received another debt collector threat so I called up the San pathology and was told the hospital hasn't sent them the money... Seriously? This is ridiculous treatment on my end and not at all worth the hassle. I expected more from a private hospital. read more

Wow all that money spent and it's still a yuk hospital! No proper beds for husbands in the new maternity wards. TV doesn't work. Blankets with holes in them in the new Day Surgery. The shared rooms on the orthopaedic ward are no bigger than cupboards - no shower you have to go across the hall for that and they charge $800 a day for that!! No wonder our private health insurance costs so much. Not nearly enough ward porters - be prepared to wait up to an hour to get out of the place. read more

I had heard many positive things about the SAN and therefore had high expectations of quality care when I was admitted for an ortho surgery recently. The admission process and surgical process was very smooth and professional, but unfortunately the nursing care was one of the worst I have encountered in Australia - I have received better nursing in public hospitals. Despite the new wing being relatively empty, it seemed the nurses were overworked and frankly did not want to be there. There was a new face every day and every night and on two occasions they either did not give me a particular daily medication or were going to give me a double dose - on both occasions, it is only because of my own personal intervention, that this did not occur. I did not expect any special or exemplary nursing care, but this was not acceptable - another point was that when the bell was pressed for nursing staff, they took a very long time to respond, in some cases, I had to press the bell repeatedly - this was not a major issue for me thankfully, but could have been, if I needed help urgently! read more
