This is transport that you can take to enjoy the journey and a number of times, we've done just that. Pootling about on the harbour around this area is just gorgeous. What better way to see the heart of a major city? There's a café, 'Wharfies' on the wharf run by a gorgeous little Asian couple who make surprisingly good coffee. There are toilets on the wharf too, which is handy if you find yourself overwhelmed by the excitement of the journey there. A bus meets the ferry that can transport you to Mosman High Street or on to Milsons Point. If you want a day out on the water then a ferry is a cheaper alternative to the touristy charters. It's spectacular and a great way to see the harbour in the early morning and watching the sun come out. Paul and Grace our guides were excellent and friendly and gave us lots of information along the way. This allows for a paddle under the harbour bridge and towards the opera house. Starting point is very central in Lavender Bay (close to Lunar Park and Milsons Point train station). The fee includes a large number of photos and an excellent coffee, which you can sip while floating on Sydney Harbour. Excellent safety briefing and you get your own very stable kayak. Suitable for novices and fun enough for the experienced kayakers. I want to go again... despite the 5:20 am start.

At a regular pace, you can make it around Shark Island and back. No, I didn't see any sharks. Phew! If you want to do something romantic, or just chill with a special someone. My suggestion is to stop off and have a relaxing picnic on Shark Island, which has harbour views to die for. But you will need to book and pay landing fees beforehand. Located right next to the main runway at Sydney International Airport, Botany Bay is inhabited by all sorts of water-based sports enthusiasts. Everyone from sailors to kayakers to kite surfers take up residence here, and when the wind picks up there's even more of them (although not so much the kayakers, the waves can get a bit choppy). I recently went out on a friend's boat, and it really is a great place to be out on the water, especially if you're like me and very much enjoy being so close to the planes landing and taking off! Nothing quite like the sight of a 747 a few feet above your head as your sailing along! It's also a fantastic place to watch a sunset from as it goes down right near the skyline of the CBD, creating an awesome silhouette of the city. The beach bordering the bay stretches all the way from Brighton-le-Sands down to Dolls Point, along The Grand Parade, and there are various car parks along the way for you to park up and sort your equipment out!

The gentleman serving said "well 21 people paid and 21 people have checked out gear" so basically someone else had turned up and taken my paid for place. Luckily 1 other person in the group retired early and I was able to take over her SUP. No instructions offered, the whole process seemed really unorganised and a bit of a mess. Bundeena is so beautiful! And the SUP was fun once I finally got on the water but perhaps there is another company to hire from that wont lose your booking?

What struck me immediately is the local swamp wallabies that coexist with the visitors and rangers. Sightings on the day included kookaburras, various birds and reptiles. It is the only place in the Ku-ring-gai Chase where you can camp. Being part of a national park, ongoing conservation and preservation is by way of entrance fees ($3 per head), which is separate to camping fees. Restrictions applies to this beautiful place i.e. fires. The campsite is well maintained and very clean. Plenty of hiking opportunities for those who are keen as it is surrounded by hills and mountains There is a body of water that is safe for some water sports. Bbq facilities is also available which we took advantage of. Beechwood Cottage is a historical property which is available to hire for functions and events. This place is great if you want to get away for the weekends with or without the kids. It overlooks Pittwater and is just a beautiful place to hang and chill.

This is a great beach and camping area, with mountains all around. Access is by boat or trails…read more No vehicles allowed. It's not a pristine sand beach, more like sand based mud, but has nice calm clear water on the back harbour side. The place has lots of space to picnic and relax. Everything is clean. And the kids get to run after the wallaby(ies) when they hop by. We went in by boat, which is a great way to arrive. There are lots of tent campers, most of which seemed to arrive and bring their gear in by boat. Several ferries service the area.

Want to have a whale of a time?…read more I particularly love going to North head for spotting whales! From May to Nov, North head offers an amazing opportunity to watch a Blow, a fin, an occasional body splash. The migration route is close to the coast so these whales can often be seen from the north headlands. From late August to November, the whales head southwards. Females with their newborns, and males after the mating season. Mothers tend to spend more time on surface and swim slower so that the calf can keep up. The calves tend to come out of the water more often. Remember to bring your binoculars! The North and South Heads of Sydney mark the entrance to Sydney harbour. The bay is called the Mouth of Sydney and this is where all ships enter and leave Sydney. The lookout points towards the city and you can catch views of the Harbour Bridge, city, Rose bay all the way unto Vaculuse. North Head National Parks is a ten minute drive from Manly. It's a pristine headland and a great vantage point to watch the Sydney to Hobart race on Boxing day. They have walking tracks and barracks. If you stand close to the edge, you can feel the water spray from below. This is particularly welcome during summer months.
