The staff at the time were incredibly friendly and helpful, and we made SO many new friends here, as it was mostly all international students living here. The big common space courtyard was surrounded by glass rooms -- a kitchen, a laundry room, a computer lab, and more. There were ping pong tables in the courtyard, and it was the perfect space to run into people you knew or meet someone new. The rooms itself were great. The beds were comfy, the desk, closets and storage were pretty big, and the kitchens came equipped. I had eight people in my apartment: four rooms with two twin beds in each. There was, however, a big bookshelf that split up the two beds so you feel like you have privacy on your side. The location was good, with a train station about a five minute walk away and a fancy grocery store only a few blocks away as well. There was also a bike / coffee shop a block away that I loved.

So I decided to go ahead with this place. Until now I have been happy with the accommodation. The apartments are nice and complete with the bathroom en suite. The lobby is a nice place to relax and chill. Internet speeds are quite good. The staff is quite friendly and fixes up stuff pretty quickly upon your request. The macintosh computers downstairs are free to use anytime. There is a pool table, though I wish the table was bigger. You do also get free BBQ every Friday as of now. I would definitely give it a 5 star if they did have a gym and if the place was a bit bigger with more spaces to enjoy and relax. If you are under 18 and don't wanna stay in homestay I highly recommend looking at other options as urbanest is really unflexible with curfews. furthermore, doesn't give you the independence gained from other places as they have things like "monthly welfare meetings" and quarterly inspections.

Having studied at UTS for a number of years, I can tell you the campus has the worst reputation for…read moreits lack of social life. Most students tend to go to university for lectures and tutorials and then make their way straight home rather than hanging around. I believe UTS has realised this and has made plans to undergo major renovations to counteract this problem. I suggest Sydney University or Macquarie if socialising is a main priority. Almost everyone has seen the big ugly brown Tower Building, a disaster, but which was considered architecturally desirable back in the 80's. The concrete and lack of grass areas is a major drawback, making the grounds and premises unappealing. On the plus side, the university has won numerous awards - its business course ranks as no.1 in Australia and is among the top 10% of business courses in the world. The lecture times and tutorials are flexible, with many classes available in the evening for those who work full-time and attend university part-time. For full-time students this is also an advantage because you can cram all classes into two days each week. UTS also has a campus at Lindfield. Known as the Ku-Ring-Gai campus, many students who live along the North Shore attend this campus. Its social life is considerably more happening. A free shuttle bus is available between the two campuses, which is very popular among students. Buses leave almost every hour and drops you right at the door. Timetables are available to students and lecturers. Despite never having used the gyms at Kuringai or the City, I believe they are well equipped with staff and machines. There are plenty of classes, one of which includes pole dancing! There are plenty of cafes and take away eateries, with a food court located in the Tower Building. The Kuringai campus also has a cafe and a bar. The City campus has two bars, the most well known is the Loft. Beer specials on a Friday attract plenty of students. Music events are mostly held here. Parking is somewhat difficult in the city. Paid parking is available on the street but can be difficult to secure when there are plenty of other people trying to do the same. There is secured parking near the UTS library where students can obtain a discount. Personally, I prefer to park at Broadway Shopping Centre where parking is free for 3 hours. I regularly did this for late night lectures. However, this can get a little tiring as the centre is a good walk from the university, particularly from the Haymarket (Business and Law) Buildings. The Staff at university are incredibly friendly and willing to assist you anyway they can. I have heard appalling stories from students who have attended other universities when talking about their student services. UTS Student Services are absolutely fantastic, they are very knowledgeable and are happy to take the time when explaining anything. If you live too far from UTS, there is plenty of student housing. Recently, a new building was built, which even has a rooftop area for parties! Alternatively, it is possible to secure housing at Sydney University while still attending UTS. The technology at UTS is simply dreadful which is ironic considering the university has "technology" in its name. Wireless is freely available but often doesn't work in lectures or in classes. Power plugs are few and far between which can be very frustrating. There are however plenty of computers to use throughout the campus. The city campus's library is well run and rather large. With multiple levels, plenty of staff and lots of computers and books, it attracts hundreds of students through its doors every day. Keep in mind that you need to bring your student ID with you in order to get through the barricades. Securing a computer in the library can be somewhat difficult. It is best to go to the business campus or the tower building to find a free computer.

My review is specifically for the public seminars run by UTS. I think it's great UTS provides free…read moreseminars for the general public. It also provides free networking sessions for professionals. However, my experience was somewhat ruined by the "attitude" of the event organiser who seemed to be nice only to a certain group of people, but unfriendly to people from the minorities. Ironically, she herself is not even an Australian. As I had attended several seminars at UTS, and unfortunately all the events seemed to be run by the same racist staff, I had observed how she was totally friendly to the white audience, but her demeanour turned 360 degree when addressed by audience from the minority group. It will be hard for the university to even know that the staff has attitude problems reserved to certain people, and it's a pity. I have also heard from many international students, again, some attitude problems coming from UTS staff who are not academics in regards to their attitude towards students from certain countries. I think that UTS should really take this matter seriously and start addresssing "problem" staff, maybe run behavioural trainings for them, run student surveys, etc, because after all they become part of UTS' image. Their unprofessionalism compromises UTS' reputation as a major education provider for international students.

Thoughts I'd branding and corporate sponsors and such come to mind. In my undergrad years elsewhere, the intent of the university was to drive students to an early grave, not to make money. My post grad years seem more noble but my student debt tells another story. Anybroke, I feel like the undergrad program's reputation for being rigorous seems to be based in part on the massive challenges faced by its large international student population of non-native speakers who struggle with lectures. This is based on my experiences with a small sample size of 2 as well as a hilariously conversation overhead at the train station by native English speakers on some sort of study abroad year. I've had experiences with several post grad programme and they seem solid.
