La Châtelaine is the kind of place you have to find--tucked away in a quiet Bozeman neighborhood,…read morefar from the bustle of Main Street. The search felt almost romantic, like wandering the side streets of Paris in pursuit of a hidden chocolatier known only to locals. The exterior was humble, even nondescript--I half-wondered if I'd stumbled upon an old hardware store. But the moment I stepped inside, I knew I'd found something extraordinary. A long glass case gleamed with rows of exquisite chocolates--delicate, jewel-like creations that would make any Parisian confiseur proud. These weren't simple chocolate bars or mass-produced sweets; each piece looked like a tiny work of art, inspired by faraway cacao origins and the timeless elegance of old-world France. Choosing just four for my sampler box felt impossible, so I surrendered and asked the server for guidance. She smiled and asked what flavors I loved most, then curated a selection that included two pieces crafted from Mexican cacao--tracing their roots to the Aztecs--and a layered chocolate so refined it could have come straight from Saint-Germain-des-Prés. To complete the indulgence, I ordered a hot chocolate--Mexican style, of course. Rich, velvety, and lightly spiced, it was perfection in a cup. Each bite of chocolate was an awakening--smooth, complex, and impossibly luxurious. By the end, I was speechless. La Châtelaine isn't just a chocolatier; it's a love letter to Paris, written in cacao. They may be hidden in Bozeman for now, but their craft deserves a world stage.

On my visit to Bozeman, I made a special trip just to get a box of these perfectly tempered and interestingly--but not overly weirdly--flavored chocolates. The chocolate has that perfect snap and gloss that marks high-end chocolates and makes their prices make sense. I wish I'd gotten the name, though, of the young woman helping me because she was remarkably friendly and helpful and was a wonderful representative of this company (for the record, I went on Sunday, August 4, around 1pm, in case that helps the owner identify her). She suggested some favorites of other customers and also her own favorites while she packed up my box. Thank you, friendly person!

Went to Red Lodge, MT for the first time and went into this cute candy store! They are known for…read moretheir huckleberry taffy. I picked up a sample pack and it didn't disappoint. Everything in the store was fantastic from their candies, chocolate and they even had jams and pickled veggies. The staff was super friendly as well! My favorite are peach rings and they were fabulous! Make sure you swing into this local shop!

This place is sweet! This is an old, old, old timey movie…read moretheater (I tihnk?!) that's been converted into a candy shop. It certainly didn't start off this way. The building seems like it's over a century old, filled with all the weird candies you can imagine! Most of the candy is sold by the ounce or the pound. All the taffies are the same price, it's sold by the pound. They have nearly every flavor you can imagine, but I'd recommend sticking with the huckleberry ones, this is the local berry in Red Lodge that everyone seems to go crazy over. There's a ten dollar minimum on credit cards, so if you're gonna charge it, you're walking out with a whole lotta candy. It's not all just taffy - they have weird stuff like booger flavored jelly beans, or poop themed candy, or potato sweets from Idaho. Sweet! There's so much old stuff here- it's hard to tell what originally belonged up on the walls, and what's been added throughout the years. It serves of a sort of memento from a time yonder when things were sweeter. The guy behind the counter was nice, and eager to carve off big chunks of fudge that they had located behind the counter, by the ounce. Parking was challenging, since it's on the main street of Red Lodge.

There was a window full of truffles, hand made chocolates, and caramel apples. They had some delicious samples to try too. They had a soda shop area with seats to enjoy your treats. We had a lot of fun looking at the different bins full of candies that were unique. We grabbed a mix of treats before we headed out. We loved this store. The sweetest part of the experience was Russ, the employee that answered all our questions and helped us with our selections. He was the highlight of our visit. He provided the best service , and had a dynamite personality. We would visit again. Reasonable prices and worth the stop.

I brought my 3 daughters and that was a challenge, but we stayed for about 90 minutes and purchased three sets of items, as we sat at the convenient old school soda fountain tables and ate all the goodies. Everyone was really nice there, but the only one I caught the name of was PJ who was running the soda fountain area. She was super friendly and very helpful. We spent quite a while conversing with her about sweets and whatever else. This place is large. Yes it's pretty pricey, but there's so many choices. It was amazing to see. Not only do they have nearly every candy you can imagine, but they also have ice cream and they make milkshakes, and specialty sodas. I thought a neat touch also, was the fact that they have a bunch of games you can use to play at the tables for family fun. Uno and sorry and things like that. Good to keep you in there and eating more sweets! Haha. The whole ambiance reminded me of the classic 1950s candy and malt shop. Overall, well done. Good times. Enjoy them while you still can.

**November 2025: Monday Late Afternoon Visit**…read more If you're looking for Montana's pride and joy Bequet Caramels are it! I saw single candies as well as bags of these confections at various groceries stores and speciality shops, and knew that their presence throughout Bozeman meant that they were definitely something Montana was proud of. What I like about this factory storefront is that you can sample the different caramel flavors before purchase and that they sell all flavors including discontinued ones (Espresso) and seasonal flavors (Pumpkin Pie, Smore, Peppermint Hot Chocolate). On my visit they had the following flavors available in the 24oz: Chipotle, Celtic Sea Salt, Salt-Chocolate, Butterscotch, Chocolate, Chewy, Chocolate L'orange, Salted Butterscotch, Salted Mocha, and Green Apple. I really like the Celtic Sea Salt and the Chocolate L'orange! I've visited several shops in Bozeman and the majority sell a select number of flavors and are only available in in the 3.6 oz or 4oz clear packaging. If you want the big 24oz Resealable Pouches ($29.50) with the most flavor variety coming here will give you the greatest selection.

Passing through Bozeman we were determined to find their mother ship. Located in a small, unassuming facility we stopped in for a peek. There is a small parking lot available with easy access. There are windows that allow you to watch the operation and it's amazing to think that what is a relatively little factory supports their huge business! We were pleasantly greeted and offered a few samples that include some limited release items that were awesome!!! Quality products that make for great presents. If you can't make it to their HQ check them out online.
