Symeons has been a family favorite for us for well over a decade now! And even though we moved to North Carolina we have friends send us their spices each time we run low! So we've carried a part of it to the south! We love it that much! We recently had the chance to stop in again during a family trip to NY. All five of our kids were giddy to get some eggplant and enjoy our favorite NY restaurant! I will say that we all loved the friendliness of the staff! Very patient and accommodating! But, sadly there were a few things that seem to be slipping now a days that need to be said. The bathrooms felt grimy and could really use some updating. And while I am not wheelchair bound, I am somewhat disabled and quite overweight, their bathroom stalls are not friendly for either disabled or large people. And some air freshener would help...even essential oils, something. Also, the booths, chairs, menus all felt sort of sticky...I think a good spring cleaning of all things would help a lot! Granted they appear to remain busy always so scheduling that may be hard, but it would help. A lot! Finally, the Baklava has always been a favorite of ours but they MAJORLY reduced the size of the serving without dropping the price. Seemed a bit odd. Overall, we love this place! We brought back even more seasoning this time and look forward to our next visit when we come to NY again. read more

Maybe I came on a bad day but the only thing I liked here was the french fries....the food was horrible. The fish tasted fishy and bland, the service was slow, the chicken was dry, and the cheese appetizer felt like i was eating rubber. I have never dined in, only pick up so keep that in mind while reading this review . I have only tried their soup until today. The soup is really good (yet over priced) however this review is not about that. We ordered the " to-go" platter. The chicken was over cooked and a bit dry. The salad was boring and bland. The rice tasted "instant". I wouldn't be this critical except the price demands a critical review. (The pi$48) Not to mention they don't make hummus. Really? No hummus. Sorry, but I won't be ordering from here again. The owner cared enough to reach out to me via an associate. We came to Symeon's to get some some good calamari. We hadn't been in since before the pandemic of 2020. Well, the calamari was dependably the same as we remembered, and delicious with its seasoning, light coating, and zesty cocktail sauce. After that we had pitas: I had chicken w roasted peppers and my partner had the lamb. Both were delicious in seasonings, meat quality, soft fresh pita bread. All the food arrived warm and extremely fast. The table was covered with white paper, very clean. The waitress was friendly and knowledgeable. Since we came early, it wasn't too crowded. This restaurant is busy because it is dependably good. So nice to have an absolutely pleasurable dining experience, and without overpricing! This is delicious Greek/Mediterranean, healthy food. We always love Symeons. The food is predictable, tasty, and priced right. The owners and the staff are gracious and helpful, especially if you are coming with elderly and/or somewhat disabled members of your party. Whenever I am home I go here. Luckily I live In Buffalo so it is not that far away. My go to is T-dip and the fish fry. Always love that I have enough dip left over to bring back and they give you extra bread if you ask for it. I've been eating at Simeon's for years. Although I have not lived in the Utica area for many years I am back there often. Many times that I come I eat at Symeons. Their food and service are consistently good. I almost never miss ordering the fried eggplant appetizer - it's crisp and light and delicious. We moved out of the area and we're back for a visit. This was a family favorite until now. What happened to Simeon's? We ordered take out Greek dinner for 4. The meat was over cooked. the rice barely gave three of us a serving. The green salad had old brown lettuce we Ugg Sad to come back and see this historic Greek restaurant turning out sub standard meals. Don't go Omg. The lemon soup could of been cam bell's. The food was tasteful, and portion was just right for the lunch special. The calamari was fried the right amount, just enough to be crispy and let the spices sprinkled on top to be absorbed by the oil. Came here as part of a large group for a celebration. Everyone had a great time. The service was appropriately timed and very friendly. Our server, Debbie, was fantastic! We ordered sampler platters which had fried eggplant, stuffed grape leaves, calimari. All of the individual items were tasty and if it wasn't for the health angel sitting on my shoulder yapping on about fried foods, I'd order any of them again. I also tried the avgolemono soup, which is a brothy chicken soup subtlety flavored with lemon. This was tasty as well but I noticed a lot of very fine ground chicken in the broth and wasn't a big fan of that. I ordered the half souvlaki half Thracian chicken on top of salad with yogurt sauce. The souvlaki (kabob) and the chicken were both extremely tender. There was a generous amount of salad. Our table ordered and yogurt sauce dip and I'm glad because my salad needed extra! They also serve two different types of pita-esque bread on the table; one thin and the other a bit more herby and puffy. We brought our own dessert for the party, but I'd certainly like to try theirs sometime. Overall Symeon's reminded me of a diner with Greek food. So a Greek diner with good food. There's nothing fancy here, but there is straightforward tasty food. The decor is pretty simple; tables, booths, open kitchen, lightly colored walls, wallpaper of gray bricks to mimic a Greek metropolis, an enormous amount of dining areas. They also sell Symeon's spice. This is a Utica thing and is literally a blend of spices for marinating and cooking meats in. It is also what they use in many of their dishes and sauces. They sell it up front and I highly recommend walking away with a jar of it as it spruces up meats quite nicely. Yes, this means Symeon's graces my spice cabinet and many non-vegetarian dinners with its presence! read more

Th reviews for Symeon's Greek Restaurant were a deciding factor when I wanted to find a dining experience in the Utica area that was NOT Italian! :-) While a few miles outside of the city, it was well worth the 15 minute drive. Customers are warmly greeted by the owner/manager on arrival, which sets the tone for a pleasant dining experience. The restaurant spacious, and nicely decorated in good taste (some Greek restaurants go a little overboard with their Greek theme). Tables are appropriately spaced apart so that even though I was sandwiched between two families with kids, it was not a poblem. I noticed that they have separate rooms for special events, and they handle groups (there was one while I were there) well. A nice selection of traditional Greek specialties, tasteful and authentic on the menu. Service was quick, cheerful, and special requests were not a problem. Dining here was a pleasure on all fronts. I wish I was able to give Symeon's a 4-1/2 star rating, which would have been more appropriate. I will return, no doubt, when I am next in the area and highly recommend Symeon's. read more

Really nice, casual place. We came up here on our way to taking our daughter to camp, and decided to look and see what yelpers liked. This place came up and we know the kid likes Greek food, so we went for it. It was delicious. Place reminds me of a diner with the add-on rooms, the mix of tables and booths, and it was very homey. The calamari appetizer - calamarakia tiganita - was delicious and perfect. It's always great when you can order calamari and it comes out the way it's supposed to. For dinner I had the mixed grill, consisting of a shish-ke-bob and a gyro over Greek salad. It was very good, a little more well done than I like, but still very good. My husband had the Thracian chicken, and the kid had the Thracian chicken sandwich. They were both very satisfied. I had baklava for dessert, couldn't resist. The husband had the Greek rice pudding & loved it, and the kid had a strawberry mousse which she decided she didn't like. I'll be the first to admit that I do not fancy Greek Food! I am surprised as most to give a 5 star review but it is so well deserved. I came here on a Friday evening. It was busy but we did not have to wait for a table. I ordered the Shrimp Porto Lago, as it seemed to be a safe seafood option. It was outstanding! I did not try the sauce but fortunately it came on the side so I had the choice. For dessert I enjoyed a decadent chocolate mousse that was to die for. The owner was walking around and checking on the tables. It is hard to see this type of interaction nowadays. I felt comfortable that if I had any concerns I could approach him.
