The authorities like to control distribution of alcohol and in Sweden it is done through this organization that is generally referred to as "the system." They are the ONLY retail store in Sweden that is allowed to sell alcoholic beverages that have more than 3.5% alcohol by volume. If you're looking for better beer (take away) and spirits (like vodka, rum, gin, and such), this is it. Prices are clearly marked and aren't excessive. An interesting effect to this is that you might find some bargains on name brand spirits compared to the more generic brands. There are no specials and all are sold at room temperature, i.e., beer is not refrigerated. Be prepared to show some sort of identification to purchase. Note that Systembolaget's stores close by 8 pm on weekdays and 3 pm on Saturdays. They are not open on Sunday, or certain holidays. Oddly enough, this Systembolaget had a quite large selection of beers from California. But they also had some harder to find breweries like Brew Dog. Make sure you get there before they close!

*Note that my rating is based on comparison with other Systembolagets, since that's the only thing…read morethat makes sense in the context of the Swedish market. I consider this a "normal" systembolaget. You don't have to memorize/write-down/take pictures of the bottles of wine, or liquor that you want (Högdalen), and you don't have to take a ticket to talk to a personal consultant (Sankt Ericsplan). It seemed to have a good selection of wine, but I don't know, maybe they all have the same exact selection. It's close to the Fridhemsplan stop, which is convenient. They seem to have plenty of cash registers so it shouldn't get too busy if people are working there. I'm not sure what else I can rate them on honestly! They don't allow your hound in the premises, so leave him outside! When I visited there was a small child in the breezeway yelling to someone inside the store, so maybe they don't allow small children either, hah.

After having been weaned by 7-11 in California over the past 60 years, what a treat to find this…read moreamazing store at Arlanda in Stockholm. This place has the coolest snacks and other things to eat along with amazing sweets. It is a 7-11 like an American has never seen. I've been in them in Japan, but they pale in comparison to the Swedish concept. It is like MacDonalds in France, a completely different beast with nothing in common with what we see stateside.
