I found her card collection most impressive of all, because she uses any kind of images or pieces of paper like paper dolls and other vintage images to make wonderful collages. They greatly appealed to me and suddenly I got myself a little teddy bear with the wings of a butterfly! Who else has got such a unique teddy bear :o)? We went to several souvenir shops in Helsinki during our time in Finland looking for Christmas ornaments in July and this shop was probably the highest quality with the best value and selection outside of perhaps Annie's Gift Shop (Annensoppi). The service was hands off but friendly and I was glad to find a few pieces for my mother for Christmas. All in all, if you want some wooden holiday ornaments, especially off season, I would absolutely stop in here first.

I enjoyed quite a lot of the art here, paintings and some sculptures. The more "modern" stuff is the art that I really enjoy. And then there's the "contemporary" which is sometimes a little bit too far above my head to really understand. Political messages, I tend to find a little challenging. HAM contributes a great cultural gem for the city here, with thought-provoking and interesting works of art. They had a big exhibition on Parisian art from around the time that Picasso was painting there, showing a lot of where he got his influences. They also had a seemingly permanent exhibition of photographs of a Finnish rock quarry that has interesting sounding geological features. When we went, the top floor of the museum was off-limits due to their ongoing installation of a new exhibit. So I felt like we missed a good deal of the museum's space. The museum is easy to get around, and the artworks are titled and described in English as well as Finnish. Outside the museum, there's a cool gift shop, with reasonably priced prints, cards, and some art supplies. They even have a clearance section with cool artsy books in Finnish! The museum also contributes large scale works of art to the mall that it's located in- so check out the chandelier made from pots and pans and the other big sculptures! I was really glad to find this museum. It's got some cool stuff! The best part, was we happened to show up on half-priced day- Score!

While staying in Helsinki this Winter, I did a lot of business at this store. They evaluated my jewelry that I wanted to sell. They offered fair price, and I feel they were fair in comparison to another firm who made an offer to me. One can just wear so many rings and bracelets at the time without looking like a Christmas tree, and there is no point having beautiful things tarnish in a drawer. Usually they make a cash payments up to 1,000- Euros and it worked well for me because I made several visits to this store. I brought two of my friends to do business at Holmasto, and we all left happy. Check out this shop! Not only do they have a great selection of gold and silver pieces for sale, but they also purchase icons, militaria, coins, silver coffee creamers, tableware, candle holders and the list goes on. This is a family own business and I will be back next time I am in Helsinki, Finland.
