I've never had to wait long for a prescription to be made up and you can amuse yourself by looking round the shop while you wait. There are loads of weird and wonderful items in stock and there are always bargains to be had. I always come home with something other than the prescription I went in for - examples are a mini fan for a £1 in the summer and a webcam kit for £4.99 more recently. Advice is available from the pharmacist if you want it and they always make sure to check properly who you are before giving you the drugs (again unlike another pharmacy I could name).

This is a small branch of Boots and it's difficult to understand why they opened up here as it's…read moreright next door to another pharmacy and across the road from a third, with a branch of Superdrug equally close. Being a small shop there's a limited range of goods, but they cram a lot into a small space. Some of the make-up (particularly nail varnish) looks quite old, so I'm not sure how many people buy their cosmetics here. Having said that they were the only Boots branch in 5 I tried which stocked the particular shade of foundation I wanted so hats off to them for that. There's a pharmacy in this branch and the staff appear knowledgeable about the various over-the-counter medicines they sell. They're very good at recommending the Boots version (where one is available) which can save you some money. Staff have always been friendly when I've been in so it's a nice place to shop, even though you might have to go further afield for anything out of the ordinary.

This is a terrible shop and I don't go in it anymore…read more It has no air-conditioning so is unbearably hot pretty much all year round and there's an unpleasant smell in there too. There are usually loads of staff wandering round stocking shelves but only one or two on the tills so the queues are long and it takes ages to be served. The staff seems grumpy and are unhelpful. There isn't a very good range of goods and most of the Superdrug offers you see in the papers aren't available here -or that's what the staff tell you. I've been in some really great branches of Superdrug, but the Staines branch really lets the chain down.

This is a small-ish branch of Marks & Spencer so I often find that it doesn't stock what I want…read more The front of the store on the ground floor is devoted to women's clothes and the Per Una section while the back has the food and wine departments. Children's and men's departments are upstairs along with a cafe which appeared in 2007. A small area of the store is devoted to household goods such as towels and kitchenware, but the range displayed is extremely limited. Some M&S ranges (eg the Plus women's clothing range and the Big & Tall men's equivalent) aren't stocked in Staines so you have to travel further afield for these. I've also found that the most popular sizes in clothes and (particularly) in shoes sell out quickly and aren't restocked. The majority of the staff are of the standard you'd expect from M&S, but some of the weekend staff leave a bit to be desired. While I was waiting to pay last Sunday one teenage girl assistant was telling her colleague some very intimate details of a medical problem she has, while serving customers and in full hearing of a queue of around 10 people! Queues at tills tend to be long, but the staff do apologise for the wait which makes you feel a bit better. So, all in all, the Staines branch of M&S is fine for the basics, but if you need anything beyond this you'll have to make a journey to a bigger branch.
