I didn't realize this place was in Yelp's 2024 Top 100 list until recently, but I was super stoked to check it out before even knowing this. I flew into Seattle for work, but I was heading north to check out some sights. Along the way, I wanted some lunch and spotted Ta Joia was nearby. Seeing it was well reviewed and I almost always have a craving for Asian cuisine, I dropped by to check it out. It was a weekday lunch, so it wasn't too busy inside. I took a look at the menu, and I had several questions about what to choose. I talked with the cashier to get his opinions and answer some questions regarding the menu, and he was super helpful to provide recommendations. I opted for the Bulgogi Beef bowl and added rice cakes to the dish. They also sold Guarana sodas in store, which was a nice plus for me given they're hard to come by! Individually, each of the components that made up the bowl were delicious. The bulgogi was super flavorful, the rice cakes were soft and chewy, and the side of pico was refreshing. I mixed them all together and added a bit of their cilantro sauce, and YUM! All the flavors blended well together, and I left feeling full and satisfied. There's plenty of space available in the restaurant, and even though it's not a full-service restaurant, the staff checked up with me and other dining patrons to see how everything was going. While this place has gained notoriety as a teriyaki spot, I feel that it would unfair to Ta Joia to stop there, as they truly offer many other (excellent) dishes alongside their teriyaki. Ta Joia doesn't just do teriyaki great, they do many dishes well. My girlfriend really enjoyed her bibimbap, and my employee-recommended Ta Joia Special was excellent, too. This is a family run business and you will almost always see the mother (Yoo-Mi) and Daughters (Vivian) in the back cooking. Ambiance is very welcoming and bright. The house chicken was not drenched in sauce but it somehow was the juiciest and most flavorful chicken I've ever had. Had good smoke. The galbi was very tender and juicy. The best I've had in wa and better than kbbq joints. But the fejioda was the highlight. I love rice and beans. The fejioda had nice chunks of brisket, sausage and pork. So smoky and rich. Vivian the owner is so sweet, everyone of the employees is so friendly and helpful. I knew I was getting the Spicy Chicken with the Pico and Green sauce cause I checked with my friend what to get the other dish the owner suggested it's one of her favorites the Spicy Pork with rice cakes. The spicy is spicy which is nice but doesn't take away from the flavor of the dishes. People rave about the green dance but what really makes the dishes unique hit for me is the pico. I'm a big believer in having something fresh or pickled with a protein I love how it brightens a dish up and ads freshness to it. The chicken has a nice grill and char to the exterior but remained moist. The spicy pork is more of a stir fry love that it has vegetables in it the rice cakes are an additional $2.50 I like the texture of rice cakes and how they absorb the flavor of what they're in. I'm always intrigued by fusion food. I heard Ta Joia combines Asian and Latin American cuisine, so I came to give it a try. Well, it was quite a success! While the space isn't huge, it's big enough, and we walked into a bright and spacious atmosphere. The service was friendly and inviting. I didn't even know there was a lunch sized option until the cashier asked if we wanted it. It costs a bit less and was definitely enough (maybe slightly more than enough) to fill my hungry bell-eh. Spicy chicken with Pico- This was some of the best teriyaki I've had in the Seattle area. Charred beautifully, covered in enough sauce that you don't need more, but it doesn't hurt if you add it anyway. Great spice level. With the pico de gallo, the citrus tang randomly screamed "I'm here!" amidst its delightful dance with the flavors of teriyaki. And then.... AND THEN, the cashier came by with the cilantro sauce and OHH boy did that level up the dish even more. Cilantro & citrus should be combined with charred Asian meats more often. My husband got the bulgogi option with the same sides as me. It was decent, but didn't stand out compared to other bulgogis I've had, so I much preferred the spicy chicken. Despite my skepticism about their Asian-food-meets-Brazilian-food vibe, the concept pleasantly surprised me. Adding some pico de gallo to bulgogi beef is, apparently, a thing - and a good thing at that. I went with two friends and we ended up eating family style. Two large entrees (a spicy chicken bowl and a bulgogi beef bowl) and a side of potstickers was more than enough to fill our bellies. The food came out quickly and everything was perfectly prepared.
