I thought I had walked into an Alfred Dunhill store back when they still sold pipes and tobacco. This place has been around for a long time - since the mid-1800's. Gorgeous wood paneling and selection of pipes, tobacco, cigars and spirits that will make you feel like a kid in a candy store. As I purchased pipes the customer service rep placed them on a felt mat so I could compare them. I felt like I was being treated like royalty or a powerful member of Parliament. It's not just the purchase that gives you pleasure here - it's the whole shopping experience. Ended up getting couple pipes and some pipe tobacco and a box of cigarillos. If you are a fan of what we German's call Genussmittel you owe to yourself to pay a visit here. The only disappointment is that you will be wishing your local tobacconist (awesome as they might be) was this sophisticated and epic. Highly recommended.

So it was that I met Gérard at this shop back in late May of 2018, and I had an excellent experience. He suggested a tin of Vauen Bavarian Blend No. 3, which I am thoroughly enjoying. I'm a cigar smoker primarily, and he knew cigars exceptionally well also. Speaking as a long-time cigar enthusiast and international traveler, this is what a good tobacconist shop looks like! This was my third visit to Tabak Sommer and it won't be my last. The tram stops right at the door and the selection is excellent. You won't be disappointed, but do make sure you bring cash. Credit cards are not accepted, and there are no cash machines nearby, as a previous reviewer noted. If they'd had an ATM on premises I would have bought much more than I did.

That said the two Vietnamese-German ladies that helped me and my family were kind and knowledgeable about their products. My kids and I got some well-priced and gorgeous jewelry and I got myself a new glass pipe with an awesome snake winding around it. The customer service person even wisely suggested a screen filter set for when I smoke hash in said pipe. We ended up chatting for a while about being immigrants from continents far from our own and the challenges of keeping up your native language skills. It was a great way to just connect with like-minded locals. Seriously if you like Asian jewelry and artwork or need new supplies for your consumption of Cannabis (if you're lucky enough to live in a place where it's legal) AND you're in Munich you owe it to yourself to come here.
