Edgefield Church is located in the heart of East Nashville in the Historic Edgefield neighborhood…read more This early 1900s structure was designed in the Romanesque Revival architectural style. The brick building features a prominent tower, gabled rooflines, and is characterized by the robust masonry and rounded arches typical of its style. Gayle and I visited here as part of our mid-morning walk around the historic Edgefield District. It's quite an impressive building. Edgefield Baptist Church was organized in 1867 when members of Nashville's First Baptist Church wanted to create a new congregation on the East side, in what was at the time a suburb. The church on Russell Street was built in 1907 after years of fundraising, and an addition was added in 2007 for classrooms and other meeting spaces. In 2021 it joined with the area's Trinity Church, with the newly merged congregation renamed Edgefield Church, a Bible-based community congregation.

For more than 150 years, Edgefield Baptist Church provided a gospel witness in the city center of Nashville, through all the changes that transformed a rural suburb into a thriving and beautiful urban neighborhood. In September of 2010, a handful of members from Nashville’s Grace Community Church joined together to form Trinity Church on the west side of the city-center. For ten years they met in an elementary school auditorium a block from the campus of Vanderbilt University. Then in the fall of 2020, these two congregations decided to join together to form Edgefield Church church. In this neighborhood that we love, we’re pursuing together the same values that have guided faithful churches throughout the centuries.
