The food here was great, as well as the service. I ordered French Toast with eggs and turkey sausage. The other party got pancakes and grits. The French toast was made with some nice thick bread, the eggs seemed fresh, and the turkey sausage was amazing. The sausage portion was 3 pieces (patties). I couldn't even eat it all. The pancakes were super fluffy and thick. Grits... well, they're grits! The only issue... the menu. 1. Everything is A la cart. Sooooo everything separate! No combos on this menu. 2. There wasn't a huge selection. It was good enough, but not a ton of options. The food itself was amazing, the service was great, and our food came out fast. If there were just a few more "non-pork" meat options, some avocados, and healthier options I would have definitely given 5 stars. read more

This spot is close to my job and in occasion, I stop in for takeout. I had a little bit of extra time and seeing how the place wasn't busy yet, I decided to dine in. I was quickly greeted and seated and my waitress came fairly quickly. I ordered the 2-egg breakfast, bacon and wheat toast. I wanted (real egg) for my egg whites often places use liquid eggs and I just don't like them. So, I requested the real eggs. For some reason this caused my waitress have a mini meltdown. "We can't do that." I'm like huh...I just want eggs not the liquid eggs. She stated again that she didn't think they could do that but went to the kitchen mumbling to herself. She came and said ok and pretended to write it down..."real eggs, bacon and toast with has browns...got it she said." I requested decaf coffee as a beverage. My coffee came out quickly and immediately after my toast arrived. I would have liked it with my meal but ok, after the issue with the egg, I'm not saying a thing now. My food arrived and I know these are liquid eggs! The waitress and kitchen probably thinking " I won't notice! The consistency is a bit different so, I'm certain that they were liquid. Plus side though my hash browns were super hot and decent breakfast potatoes. The bacon crisp and the toast although it arrived earlier than my main dish was hot and buttery. For that I'm giving this the 3 stars. However, it should not be an issue to give a customer real egg whites you just use the yolks in something else or charge me a little bit more. I didn't think it warranted the confusion it did and still u give me what I didn't ask for. read more

I can't believe I've lived in Old Town for 5 years now and I've only now dined at Table Talk fort he first time! It's not much to speak of being a low key diner, but I must say it's a bit refreshing considering all the higher end restaurants that have opened on King St and Carlyle. We visited around 6:00 pm and I was pleased to learn that they even offer happy hour specials. Well drinks and glasses of wine for $5.00 and $3.50 domestic beers. I had a glass of the cabernet sauvignon, which was a bit too fruity for my liking, but hey, for $5.00 I'll take it. The menu is a typical diner menu with burgers, meatloaf, spaghetti, etc. I opted for the ruben, which was delightful. Not the best ruben I've ever had, but tasty nonetheless. I was actually quite impressed by the fries, which were crispy and just the right thickness. Besides the happy hour, good prices, and laid back atmosphere, I must say the best thing about Table Talk is that they have a parking lot! Next time I'm in the mood for simple diner food or maybe a cheap happy hour, Table Talk will be at the top of my list. read more

Went to this nice spot in Alexandria about a year ago to enjoy breakfast. Heard great things about the place from Yelp so thought we would try it out while in DC. When we arrived, the wait was quite a while, but went quickly as people were leaving. While we waited, I went over to a staff member to ask an allergy question at the bar and got a very rude response, telling me to not ask and assume that the item has the allergen. The lady then started smirking about it with her coworker while packing togo orders. Very disappointed the worker would not take a minute to answer my allergy question, but when we were finally seated, we had a very nice server who did her best to help with my allergy and the food was good. Do note that this place can get decently crowded especially when you are waiting. Overall I would definitely rate 4/5 if it was not for the rude worker I mentioned earlier. read more

We were referred by a friend who loves diners. We were impressed just finding out they have their own parking! Can't beat that in Old Town. This restaurant was small but inviting. The service was good. The food was better than expected. So many prior reviews focus on breakfast. I had the crab cakes which came with Cole slaw, mashed potatoes and gravy and a roll. Hubs got the gyro and a cup of bean soup. The only complaints were: the tarter was slightly salty, the roll was nothing exciting, and the navy bean soup was mediocre. Been here a couple times now and love the people all the servers are friendly and on top on their game. This time we ordered corned beef hash, the veggie omelet, biscuits and gravy. The corner beef hash was good but I won't order crispy next time it was a bit burnt. The omelet could have used some seasoning as it was very bland. The biscuits and gravy were fantastic and highlight of the meal though I do wish it came with a couple eggs. I just couldn't see myself adding 2 eggs for $5. Not so good. On the positive side, there is dedicated parking. I had the blueberry pancakes, which were just ok, but the blueberries were fresh, so that was good. Otherwise they weren't overly tasty. My friend had a Greek omlette, potatoes and toast. Greek omlette was only tomatoes and feta. There were no Spinach or olives. There was no description on the menu. Needs to be scrubbed clean top to bottom. Example is back of bathroom door, layers of caked on grime has discolored area around door handle. read more

Table Talk has long been one of my favorite - and best valued - weekend brunch places. It has a real throw-back feel to it and friendly service. The food is good and plentiful, and I seldom go long before I get a refill on my coffee. It's a wonder I haven't reviewed them earlier. I mean seriously - just look at that French Toast! But the main reason I'm doing this review is I'm super psyched that they now have a dinner menu! According the menu I saw it was casual dinner fare, but I suspect this will be more than enough to entice me to visit more often. read more

Solid home-style staples, it seems. Dropped into Table Talk a few minutes too late for breakfast, and was offered the lasagna special, only to be informed that they were out. Instead got the meatloaf and gravy. Meatloaf was surprisingly good, moist and generously flavored. Brown gravy complemented both the meat and mashed potatoes. Oddly, dishes were served with a side of salad beets tossed with Italian dressing. Fortunately, it offered a reasonable way to cut the richness of the meatloaf. Got a very warm welcome from a gentleman that I believe was the owner or manager. This is a sweet spot to get a meal. All of the employees that I encountered were extremely pleasant and helpful. Now about the food. It's St. Patty's Day and yes, corned beef was for lunch. Specially, I ordered a Ruben . While waiting, I saw the special Ruben, Cabbage, and potatoes fly out of the kitchen and I almost got dinner. My Ruben was tender and tasty. The reason for only 3 was because the bread was soggy (takeout) and my chips (thought it would be a bag) tasted like pickles because everything shifted in the container. A recommendation would be to wrap the pickles and find a way for the bread not to get soggy for takeout orders. I plan to come back...the food was good. read more

Just tried this place out for the first tome yesterday and it was awesome :) Loved the food, curbside pickup was super easy to use (we used grub hub and tipped with that app too, let's you know when they get your order, how long it will take, and when it's ready.) My husband and I ordered French toast, (requested strawberries and they delivered- it was amazing and we may or may not have fought over the last bite), the biscuits and gravy meal (it's slightly spicy/savory which I love), scrambled eggs w/cheese, extra sides of their country potatoes, and two milks to go. Customer service was so great when we went to pick up, so we would for sure, love to come back ! To top it all off nothing was missed, we were given plenty of plastic silverware as well as packaged condiments so that's always nice. I don't have pics of the food since we gobbled it all down but, enjoying leftover potatoes today ! and yes they still taste so great ! read more

I grabbed something to eat here because I'd had good experiences before, but not today. The server first made a comment on how fast I ate and then made the comment "oh you're pregnant are you supposed to be drinking coffee?" I replied "yes I can." Then she says " are you sure". This was after she'd already served me the entire time. First off, one small cup of coffee is fine to drink while pregnant and also how is that any of your business? I think her name was Natalia. For reference this is for a review on breakfast: I ordered the two eggs (sunny-side up, bacon, home fries, toast, and coffee). For starters I'd like to put out there that I looooove greasy, American breakfast. I can eat just about anywhere and anything, but diners have a special place in my heart. For my birthday, my dad asked my where I would like to eat. I could chosen anywhere I wanted but I knew deep down, I wanted to go to a diner. I have been to this diner before, the parking lot is always packed because it is pretty small. Don't let that fool you! Even during the busiest times we never had to wait for a table, we are always seated right away, which is great! It can get pretty crowded because they bunch up as many tables as they can, but it works for them. Service is pretty quick. They ladies here hustle! Depending on the day you go (whether they are super busy or not, the ladies will be either super attentive and pay close attention to detail/refill coffee as soon as you get low, or you might have to ask a couple of times. I docked half a star not beacuse of the ladies themselves but because the owner needs to hire more servers during their busy hours. I always see the same two waitresses there. Food quality is as you would expect for a diner. Eggs are always made the way I like them, the home fries are basically potatoes with some kind of seasoning that is pretty tasty, the bacon portion is GREAT. You won't get a measly 2 slices of bacon here, it is a nice little pile on your plate. Toast is not burnt but also barely toast, not over buttered. Coffee is not burnt, fresh each time I go. Whenever it is filled it is not cold nor does it have grinds floating in it which is something common I find when I go to diners. All in all, I recommend this diner for a place for affordable breakfast. The portions are great, people here are pretty friendly, lots of regulars in here. The owner is also a very nice man, I've seen him doing anything from delivering meals to tables, sweeping, helping customers park their cars. The ambience was charming and the mimosas were wonderful. However, half of our food was cold. Our waitress forgot a few pieces of order and they came out too late to enjoy. Been coming here for 2 years and this is the first time the service wasn't there. If you mess-up and ignore it as if though nothing is wrong then you are bound to get judged. You carried these burnt potatoes with your eyes open from the kitchen to the table and didn't wait to see if we were ok with these and then didn't come back till check time. That's a shame. And when we did tell you that they were burnt you acted surprised like you couldn't see that. Smh. Thanks for replacing them but no thanks since my meal was already done. Been wanting to try, went in yesterday for brunch. Naturally busy. I sat in the tent area and was totally ok with that because of Covid protocols. Waitress was friendly but clearly had too many tables. We waited 40 minutes for subpar food. Everything was cold, English muffins were hard. Sent the food back to warm up, the lady bussing and cleaning the table with black gloves used the same hands to take the food back, food touching her gloves. Food brought back with plates of food stacked on top of each other. Probably should get the wait staff more help or something. Not a great dining experience. read more

Usually, I love Table Talk. It's an Old Town staple. It's a go-to for an early breakfast with the crew and the food is always good. Today, however, I had to say something. I understand Old Town is old. Bugs happen. Mice happen. But I had just finished eating breakfast (they let me have tomato slices instead of English muffins with my eggs benedict because I have Celiac) when a cockroach ran along the bar top, under my arms, and around the napkins. Love this little mom and pops breakfast spot. They are super clean, staff are friendly and the breakfast is delish. I was so glad that they had breakfast cereals available for those picky eaters. They were nice enough to throw in two mini boxes of cereal instead of one and they gave extra milk. I ordered the veggie egg omelet with cheese platter and it was so good.
