I asked one of the taqueros who works there what the name of the place was, to which he responded, in Spanish of course, "I think it's Los Gueros, or something like that'. These are probably the best tacos along Paseo de Amsterdam/Ave. Chabacano in this area of town, and are best known by its unofficial name 'los tacos del Oxxo de Tejeda', or maybe that's just the name my friends and I give it because of its location (between a Michoacana and an Oxxo), and their carefree attitude towards the administrative side of the business. It seems that they're just there to sell tacos, and they do an excellent job doing just that. Their taco options include suadero, cabeza, longaniza, and bistec, but where they truly excel at is in their tripa and al pastor tacos. The tripa is amazing, crispy and not too fatty, with an awesome nutty flavor that makes your mouth water and keep ordering tacos even after you're full. It's hard to find good pastor in Querétaro, but they do a pretty good job of keeping their trompo on point, and their seasoning balanced. Their other options aren't bad either, but not as good as the tripa and the al pastor. Their salsas could also use more seasoning, as they don't seem to add much to the tacos except spiciness, which a good salsa does, but it also enriches the taco. They also have quesadillas and gringas, which are not far from the ordinary I hear. Awesome place to try; very full at nights, even on weekdays, so plan to come early or get in line inside the taqueria. Just a testament to how good these tacos are!

In short, their Al Pastor is great delivered in every form. The other meat options on their menu are fantastic as well. The tripa is great in taste and texture, which has become a rare sighting in taquerias. The suadero and cabeza are also delicious and great options to accompany your Al Pastor and elevate your taco count. The service is also incredibly fast; even on their busiest nights you'll be able to get your tacos in less than a couple of minutes, and you can count on them being very busy on most nights. We knew about this taco cart from PBS celebrity chef Pati Jinich as part of her travels to SMA. We weren't aware that the full name of the business is Andy's Pastor Taco Cart even though Pati even talked about the pastor in the video clip. In fact, the prominent vertical spit was made of their specialty pastor made of thinly sliced pork shoulder. The differentiator is that it's marinated in a mixture of dried chiles (ancho, guajillo, chipotle), achiote paste, citrus juices (lime and pineapple), vinegar, and pronounced spices like cumin and oregano. Alas, we instead for a couple of the MX$35 Carne Asada Tacos (Photo 8). No question they were quite tasty but probably no better than any other popular taqueria in town. Doña Toña has been dishing out amazing food for nearly 50 years. What undoubtedly began as Doña Toña deciding to sell tacos de guiso on Sundays to generate some extra cash has become a local sensation, with the children and grandchildren now taking over the business. This is a Sunday only affair, although you may find tamales everyday at their nearby tamaleria close to Palacio Municipal, but having these delicious tacos being available only once per week makes it even more special. Here, everything tastes fresh and full of tradition. Tacos are served on huge handmade tortillas, and be assured this is no hyperbole. Guisos are also very fresh and full of flavor, and there are a lot to chose from. You may order Chicharrón en Salsa Verde, or Costilla de Puerco en Mole, Huevos a la Mexicana, Asadero, Moronga, Chilaca, or Chile Relleno. Order your tacos with either rice or some of the best tasting beans in all the state. To drink, you can order freshly squeezed orange juice, the ever present sodas, or champurrado, with its distinguishable fresh masa taste, something that is sadly less common nowadays. They also have amazing tamales, both traditional and fried, the latter which I believe to be something of a staple in this part of the country. The tamal frito con queso is the way to go if you want to try this delicacy, but I would also recommend the traditional tamales. Come here with your family on Sunday morning as all the residents of El Pueblito seemingly do, but don't arrive to late; the chances of them running out of food after 12pm are fairly high. Doña Toña's legacy lives on through her food and her children and grandchildren. Literally going to her home and having her family open their doors to their wonderful cooking Sunday after Sunday is part of what makes Mexican gastronomy so magical.
