On our first visit to Ensenada (via cruise ship) I didn't find much to make me want to get off the ship. I did some prep work for this trip and found several food spots I wanted to check out. Tacos Lucero was definitely worth a visit. Family owned by some very nice people. I was there around 10 am for my breakfast fish taco. She included a small basket of fried chips with several different salsas to dip them in. The fish taco was presented on a corn tortilla and all the fixings were at the table. As we said in Miss Salazar's Spanish class, "muy bueno". All that and a Mexican bottle of Coke for only $4.00. To find your way, walk from the cruise ship pier nearly to the end of the Ensenada Port. Walk through the last arched opening to the Mercado Negro. Continue walking past all the fish merchants and you will see Tacos Lucero on your right. read more

I watch a lot of foodies on YouTube and one of them is Bill and Lisa. I saw that they went to Ensenada just a few months before me and mentioned they were regulars of Tacos Lucero. After seeing their review, I knew that I had to check out Tacos Lucero. There is a few tables down below but don't fret, there is plenty of seating as they have tables and chairs on their second level! We ordered fish tacos, shrimp tacos, and tacos with Asada (steak). I love how they put your tacos together in the tortillas and let you put the toppings on yourself. The shrimp and tacos were perfectly battered, fried to a crisp, and not oily at all! Stuffed these bad boys with cabbage, some sort of creamy type of sauce, and pico de gallo.. All the flavors just meshed well together and they were roughly about $2 per taco. Hubby isn't a seafood lover but very well loved the Asada as it was tender and seasoned really well! We met the owner who was quite nice and she knows everyone has come here from word of mouth from Bill and Lisa. I'm glad she's getting the business as the food is delicious and affordable. Everyone is so nice and helpful here. We don't need the singers nor the partying but just some good Mexican food. Tacos Lucero does not disappoint. This cozy open-air restaurant is small but exceptionally clean and comfortable--definitely a step up from eating on a street corner. Plus, the service is outstanding! We discovered this restaurant last year while visiting Ensenada on a cruise ship. Their fish tacos are the best! We have been there every single time we've visited Ensenada (which is quite often). We've taken friends with us, as well as staff from the Navigator of the Seas. Everyone loves their food. It is a family-owned restaurant, and their service is fantastic. We went for a snack yesterday, and we sat upstairs for the first time. The view is great. They are located right by the fish market. It's about a 10 minute walk from where the cruise ships dock. Best fried fish and shrimp tacos I've ever had. This was our first stop as we had heard so many good things about this place on YouTube. The service was great, very accommodating. SoThis was easily my favorite place to eat in Mexico during my time there. I love seafood in general, so this was right up my alley. We ordered the fried rockfish, fish tacos, and shrimp tacos. The rockfish was perfectly fried on the outside and still really soft and moist on the inside. The shrimp tasted like it was butterflied open before being battered and fried, and I couldn't get enough of it. When people say food is so soft and delicious that it melts in your mouth, this is the place they're taking about. The salsas were the perfect complement, depending on whether you wanted mild or spicy flavors. The side vegetables were fresh as well. The employees were really friendly and attentive. The noise level is fine. You're able to have a room level conversation with your group and it's still fine even though the place is next to a fish market and a general shopping center. I'm really glad I remembered this place. I wanted to write a review for here, but couldn't remember the place. I was lucky because I was going through my phone and saw I happened to take a picture of the restaurant's sign. This place deserves 10000000 stars. Excellent family owned establishment. We stopped here while visiting friends in Ensenada as they love to get whole fried fish and Baja style fish tacos. Their batter is delicious. There is plenty of seating upstairs but we sat downstairs as we had one person in a wheel chair. It was perfect, we watched the cook prepare the fish and the meal. We watched fresh fish and oysters coming in the fish market and shrimp being freshly peeled before batter and frying. Very fresh. We had the fish ceviche, shrimp cocktail, Baja fish tacos and whole friend fish. All was delicious. So good, we did not stop for photos. Salsas on the table are great, be sure to try to the chipotle sauce in the squeeze container on your fish tacos. Enjoy! read more

I have to visit this place every time I go to Ensenada. The owner is super nice and with the little bit of Spanish I know and the little bit of English she knows, we communicate perfectly. We ordered the 2 fish tacos, 2 shrimp tacos, a Modelo and a humongous Corona. She ran out of Modelo, so she gave me the Corona instead. I'm not a big Corona fan, but it tastes different in Mexico. The fish tacos were fried to perfection. The batter was light and the fish was flakey and great tasting. The shrimps were fried in the same type of batter and plump and juicy. All tacos were served with no condiments because all the condiments are on the table. 5 different types of salsa with all different heat levels, sour cream, cabbage, regular and pickled onions and cilantro. The whole bill was $5 USD and some change, about $100 pesos. She does accept USD, but it seems we get a better deal with pesos all over Ensenada. read more

I usually have lots to say. But on this one we will keep it short. We got a tip from watching Bill and Lisa on YouTube. The showed a little place they liked to visit. It didn't look like much but it was located in the fish market area. We decided that we would give it a shot. It has now been 3 trips and we stop by for a vist each time. The ladies are very nice and friendly. The fish tacos are delicious. I also suggest you try the shrimp taco. It was my favorite. The shrimp was plump and cooked to perfection. If you need help getting to the shop. Just ask someone how to find the fish market. Once you are there, look for the big blue building. Get ready for some yummy food. This a review for both the numerous fish monger at the market and the no name colocated restaurants. Fresh seafood at very comparatively cheap prices. How cheap? Dozen oysters for $3.50(US). I didn't even bother to barter. A whole fish for less than $3(US) I took my purchases across the alley had had them prepared them for $10. They provided the side dishes along with my very nicely cooked to order fish snd oysters. This a great off the tourist path fir local food. read more

Saw this place on several websites and on yelp. Had to try it. I was not disappointed. I had 1 fish and 1 shrimp taco. The shrimp and fish were perfectly battered and fried up nice and light not greasy. The fish and shrimp tasted so good. They had all the fixings and at least 5 different salsas. What I really liked is the cabbage was cut very thin not big chunks. I wanted carne asada but they had sold out! Total for 2 of each was $70 pesos or $4 american dollars! It is in an area downtown called El Mercado Negro very close to the port. We walked it was like a 15 minute stroll! Sorry no pics I was too excited to eat it and forgot!! As for the restaurant itself, it's great. You can do cooked fish tacos, cold fish cocktails - soda, beer and condiments are what they offer. The tacos made of fish and shrimp aren't buried in batter. The marlin taco (which isn't likely to actually be marlin, but some kind of fish that is smoked to have the texture of marlin or a large game fish) is satisfying; the value of a marlin taco is debatable depending on the stick you measure it by (is 25¤ mxn a good value in Mexican pesos or US Dollars?). They serve basic Mexican lagers for the beer. Typical sodas for all else. If there is no room away from the kitchen on the ground, go upstairs to sit in the terrace - no chance of being splattered by specs of hot grease there. read more

This place has a fresh fish market and a line of eateries attached to each other. Staff will literally call for your attention to eat at their place. The cool thing about it is that there's a group of independent Mariachi who plays their music in each restaurant. They get paid by tips. read more
