Unfortunately, the service & food quality has seems to go down the last 4 times I've ate from here. I am not sure I would recommend them for food; the drinks could still be tasty, but I can't say for sure. Let's start with service. I came in today for lunch, alone. I sat in a booth. The server came to take my drink order & I asked for a minute or two on food. She didn't return until 15 minutes later; she also had a table of 6-8, but I was in view of her with the table. She took their drink and food orders and still has not came back. Even after I got my food, she came back long after I was finished to even ask if I wanted my check. I had never felt so ignored in a food establishment, especially when to be fair it's on the higher end for a lunch menu. The food. Honestly.. it did seem like fresh rice & beans, but absolutely no seasoning. As far as salt. I am not a salt heavy person, but there was none. On top of that, it was cold. My quesadilla also seems to have very minimal steak in comparison to the large peppers. The only thing that was hot was the actual tortilla & the cheese. It's really sad because I use to absolutely love this place. I do not believe I'll be recommending or trying them for a while. As far as the inside, they do seem to always be cleaning. Unfortunately today there was an odd smell. Overall, this may have been one of the worst food experiences I've had in a while. I hope in the future I do not have a similar experience, if I decide to return. I'd also like to notate, there was another server at a table behind me that was great! So it's not all the servers, just the one I had today.

We dined here with friends for our anniversary on the 20th. I love tacos I love tequila so I figured we give this a try! I made reservations for six about a week in advance without worry. We arrived before time and we were seated immediately. The service was quick! The Ambiance is beautiful! I ordered a margarita, the organic option and it was good! I believe everybody that ordered drinks at the table was pleased with their drinks. The food it was okay my thing is if you don't eat it all in one sitting then it may not be good as leftovers later hence that's what I experience with my chicken quesadilla it was very good flavorful and huge! A good portion I couldn't finish it all but when I took it home and tried to finish it the next day it just wasn't as appealing as it was when I was at the restaurant. Parking I believe it's only Street Parking ... I didn't see a garage nearby but we were lucky to find street parking minutes steps away from the restaurants entrance. We visited on a Friday night and it was fairly steady. Don't if I will return, but give them a try if you're into tacos and tequila it's definitely pricier than most places so definitely check that out as far as the menu before you go just to determine if you willing to give it a try. I came here on national taco day in October and the customer service was great. It was busy but they were able to handle the crowd. The tacos were amazing and the happy hour prices were even better. The restaurant was larger than I expected and I enjoyed the overall vibe.

Servers were prompt and attentive. Shrimp street tacos were so flavorful and my cousins Birria tacos were very authentic she said.

Last night we celebrated our daughter's graduation at Tacos y Tequila and they did an excellent job. We had a group of 15 at 8:30 pm and the waiter was so attentive. Food was excellent and they even treated the two graduates to free dessert! Nice touch! Fun atmosphere too!

I'm really disappointed with my experience trying to plan my graduation dinner here. On Friday morning (5/8), I was looking for local Mexican restaurants near my university that could accommodate a larger group. I had been here before, liked the location, and thought the food was decent, so I checked their website. To my surprise, the site allowed me to book a reservation for up to 25 people online like a normal reservation -- not even a private event inquiry. I completed the booking and received a confirmation for my group. (first screenshot) Wanting to make sure everything was set, I called on 5/11 to confirm the reservation. The person on the phone was rude from the start, and it was so loud in the background I could barely hear him. Then he tells me, "Oh, we aren't taking any reservations this weekend, our website isn't working." That response honestly shocked me. If the reservation system "isn't working," why are reservations still being accepted online? You're risking people showing up with large parties expecting a confirmed reservation. Had I not called ahead, it would've been embarrassing and incredibly disappointing to arrive with my graduation group and find out there was no reservation at all. What made the conversation even more frustrating was how unclear and inconsistent the answers were. Instead of giving me a straightforward yes or no about whether my reservation would actually be honored, I was told something along the lines of, "Maybe I can do something for you, but if a large group comes before you, I can't guarantee anything." That's not reassuring when you're trying to organize a graduation dinner for 25 people. I even had my mom call later to see if maybe communication would be clearer the second time around, but she got the same attitude and the same back-and-forth responses without any clear confirmation. I get 25 is a big group, just say yes or no. What makes this worse is that their website is currently promoting graduation dinners and parties right on the homepage. It feels very misleading to advertise graduation celebrations while knowingly having a broken reservation system. After watching it go viral on TikTok, I finally went to check out Tacos and Tequila, and their birria tacos are quite amazing. Delicious, juicy, and well cooked. One of their margaritas, which I also sampled, was excellent; it was powerful and well-balanced without being overpowering. The atmosphere is adorable, however it felt a little cramped, particularly at peak hours. The service may have been better, but it was only mediocre. Nevertheless, the food was the highlight of the trip and made it worthwhile. This is the place to go if you're in Norfolk and in the mood for birria. Enjoy the tequila and tacos.

Went here a couple weeks ago on a whim after a nice long sunday funday around the city! Being in a prime walkable location with scenic outdoor seating was a high scoring factor for me as weather is getting warmer and i find myself gathering with loved ones more often. I ordered the Carne Asada Tacos which packed so much flavor and the perfect balance of toppings making for a wonderful experience every bite. My drink was the Guava Margarita (which fun fact my dog is named guava so every time i have the possibility of ordering something along the lines I DO) this time it surpassed expectations of the Guava fruit i love being the sweet and lively fruit it is.

Well, I really wanted to like this place because their menu looked amazing! Maybe I didn't order the right thing. It was too hot to sit outside, but I'm sure that would have been a better experience because inside was very noisy. I ordered the Chiles Rellenos, and the batter was soggy, you could also see a lot of liquid on the plate. I did enjoy the rice and beans. Not sure if I will be back, but I may be convinced.

Birria, vibes, and baby-step guac--Tacos & Tequila Review Tacos & Tequila has been on my foodie wish list for a while, so after wrapping up our Sweet Tooth Saturday series, I decided it was finally time to check them out. The timing was perfect--not too busy, no wait, and they had both indoor and outdoor seating available. Dog-friendly? Sort of. Outdoor seating is dog-friendly, but since Lexi was in her stroller and it was HOT, we opted to sit inside in the A/C, and no one seemed to mind. Now for the food... Chips & Salsa - Solid! Chips tasted freshly made and had a good crunch. Guacamole - Okay, here's the tea. I noticed the table next to me getting tableside guac made (yes, it looked amazing), so I asked if I could watch--and then asked to try some myself. The waiter explained that what I got was their in-house guac made earlier in the day, not the tableside version. The texture was a little too smooth for me (almost baby food consistency), but the flavor was nice, especially mixed with their salsa. I'd definitely try it again--maybe next time, I'll go for the tableside experience. Birria Tacos - The star of the meal! These are their most popular item and for good reason. Corn tortillas were clearly made in-house, perfectly crisp on the outside, and generously filled with tender meat. My one critique? They needed more cheese. I didn't get any cheese pull, which is something I personally look for in a birria taco. My gold standard is still a spot I visited in Maryland over three years ago, and nothing has topped them yet--but these were definitely solid. I'd give them a strong 8/10. Side of Rice - Unexpectedly AMAZING. Flavorful, well-seasoned, and honestly a 10/10 for me. I always order rice at Mexican restaurants and this one is definitely in my top-tier list. Organic Margarita - Meh. This was a miss for me. Very sour and lacked sweetness--definitely needed more agave to balance it out. It's one of their most popular drinks (made with fresh juice and organic ingredients), but it just didn't do it for me. I'd try another drink next time. Overall, this place has great potential. Friendly service, quick seating, and a menu full of things I'd still love to try. A few hits, a couple misses--but I'd absolutely return, especially for the tacos and rice. Just don't expect a cheese pull moment unless you ask for extra.

Second time here. The food is always good, the staff is friendly and the food comes out quick which i appreciate even just walking by and deciding to stop in. Theres also a young lady doing face painting for the kids when you come in. Give it a try

My husband and I went for Taco Tuesday and enjoyed our night out. He had the fish tacos with white fish, which I tried and really enjoyed. I had the pork street tacos, and they were tasty, too. Everything came out fast, and the staff were all friendly and helpful. Great location with plenty of seating and a full bar. Check them out!

The ambience at this restaurant was quite nice. The customer service was pretty decent as well. The food didn't take long to come out at all. They customize a drink just for me, which was a nice added bonus. The food was amazing. I tried their steak which was succulent and juicy. It was not overcooked. It was just right. They also bring out chips and salsa for the table. Their food is cooked to order Including the chips. I tried a number of different items and everything was just as delicious as the first item. I also loved the desserts. I was a little skeptical to try, but it was pretty good. Overall this was an excellent visit.

My new favorite dining option on Colley! Norfolk has plenty of taco joints and Mexican eateries, but this one tops the charts. I was skeptical at first due to all the grand opening hype, but I can now confirm, it's true. Offering both indoor and outdoor dining options, it is a large establishment and definitely a good place for a party. We went on a Friday and made reservations, which i'd highly suggest for the weekend. The menu is extensive and even includes a vegetarian section. And the cocktails are a treat! Our party started with the tableside guacamole, which is a must. Don't bother with the side order. This one is made before your eyes; they bring out the rolling cart, mortar and pestle, etc. we enjoyed with complimentary chips and salsa. My husband and I both ordered the tacos (one chicken, one shrimp, and one cactus), which were seasoned and cooked perfectly, and accompanied by a salsa of our choice. Our friends got the fajitas and a burrito, both which were easily two meals in one, and a mangonada drink. I was stunned when the check came since everything was so reasonably priced. To top it off, the service was friendly, quick, and attentive. We will absolutely be back! read more

Food: Freshly made guacamole was pretty good, and other dishes were alright (definitely better than other Mexican food chain like El Vaquero and such). Chips tasted a little funky for some reason. Shary and I were on a random side quest to find a certain kind of hat. This brought us through Norfolk, VA, and then we missed a couple turns. Next thing you know, the word "Tequila" appears hovering above the street like a guiding angel. So, duh, we parked. This place has a solid house margarita. But the birria tacos are really really tasty. Our server was great. The prices are pretty good. Dining al fresco on a mild summer day was a treat. This is an optimal date spot. There's a movie theater, cool stores all around, and lots of cute stores for walking and exploring. Highly recommend! read more

I ordered the chicken fried rice expecting them to know how to cook the most basic of entrees but was surprised they had trouble with it. Never will go back here this small portion of food for $17 after tip was just not worth it.. the lack of flavor in this dish was beyond repair I couldn't even finish half of my meal it was so bland. I wish I qualified for a refund upon eating this.. The saying goes "You eat with your eyes first" and the appearance was unappetizing the ratio of meat and chicken should've been more balanced of all the things to skimp on why the rice? Also eating inside is awful it was so noisy could barely hear my friend speaking to me much less the thoughts in my head. I advice foodies to find a better spot to dine for authentic mexican cuisine as you'll only be disappointed here the salsa ended up tasting better! read more

Takeaway: I'd return for guacamole and margaritas but I'll eat elsewhere. Full review: I really wanted to like this place since tacos and margaritas always sounds like a win. The place is clean and spacious and I can imagine it's fun on a weekend night. Stopped by midday and it was mostly empty. We were greeted and seated promptly. Our server had a trainee and it was nice to see them training up a staff. We ordered food and drinks and chatted for a while. Our frozen strawberry margarita was delicious and the margarona (margarita with a Corona) was large and equally tasty. The table side guacamole is a must. Great, fresh and a shareable size made this the go to app. But the vegetarian dish was mediocre at best. To flavor in the rice or bean enchiladas and the spinach enchilada was literally spinach in a tortilla. No seasoning and no flavor. I'd definitely stop by for drinks and an app but wouldn't stick around for food. read more

Great location, it's where the old red dog tavern use to be. Clean, with a great decor. Music slightly louder than it should be Staff, all very friendly Appetizers, the chips very crisp and fresh. The salsa was lacking flavor. The empanadas were chicken, and piping hot. Burned my tongue grabbing them so fast, they did not have the flavor I was hoping for. Entree, I had the burrito with the chicken and chorizo. It has a different name every restaurant but it was great. I went here on 04/05/2024 with some friends of mine. The food was great, I ordered El Volcanito with beef and rice/beans. The food was very flavorful and I would order it again. It was a Friday night and it was packed with loud music playing and big parties all around. Which is not a big deal to me. However, our server for the night was pretty forgetful with out orders on who ordered what, and bringing us side dishes, and I believe she did forget about us after we received our entrees. I believe it was almost an hour after we finished eating before she came to check on us. Of course it was a busy night, but that is the reason it was a three star. My party just had to wait until she remembered us in order to pay. However I would come back, the food is worth it. read more

We stopped in for a quick dinner last Saturday before a show. The food came out very fast and was delicious! As a vegan, I always get the same thing at Mexican restaurants- veggie fajitas. Theirs was wonderful with a wide variety of grilled vegetables. Our service was wonderful, including hostess and server. Everyone was very courteous and professional. It's weird going back to the old red dog stomping grounds and being welcomed by such a bright and inviting space. My friends and I ordered quesadillas, tacos, and enchiladas and we all loved our dishes. The table side guac was so good we forgot to take a picture! This is definitely one of the best, if not the best, Mexican spots in Ghent. I'll definitely be back. read more

Only had the street tacos and felt they were just decent - 3/5. The presentation was very nice and they had plenty of meat and sauce options to choose from. But all of the meats did not taste juicy or tender to me. The inside of the restaurant is colorful and clean and bright. Looks like a great place for happy hour. Margaritas were great. read more

This week was my 3rd time visiting. I ordered the same entree as the 2d visit, but this time I was diligent about the components that should have been on my plate. The 2d visit, I grazed the menu vs taking my time. Well, the order came out without the guac salad so I had to inform my server. This was not a huge deal, but I don't want to remind the establishment of what my order should come with. I really wish they served the "white sauce" like most of the other HR locations. No real complaints, I'll continue my search for a great Mexican spot. read more

So I love this place. I have been here several times and it has never disappointed! I get the don julio margarita and ask them to make it spicy. It's not too sweet and I love it! The service has always been phenomenal, they go out of the way to make sure you are taken care of. The Birria tacos are fantastic and this time my kiddo got the mahi mahi tacos. Also great! We had a horrible experience. The food was good but our server , Alexander , was very rude and had an attitude everytime we asked for anything. He slammed napkins on the table, kept taking things when we weren't done with it. It was my best friends birthday and it wasn't worth it. They halfass sung the birthday song too. I'm very disappointed in the street corn. Spent $9 on a piece of corn with majority or kernels busted. I can burn a piece of corn for about a buck from the super market on my own.. wow. The greed. Absolutely disgusting. Honestly was thinking this thing was gonna be covered in gold or something. Well. The world is trying. But it's just sad. That a piece of corn that costs $9 still is so utterly bad that I have to say good bye to another Mexican restaurant that has failed read more

I live right down the street & I will say they are always thankful for the support & have kind staff! I am vegan so can appreciate solid black bean tacos... as simple as that may be to people...theirs are full of flavor. Great guac too! Thankful for this spot moving into the hood. read more

Love that this spot opened up right around the corner! Went to Tacos Y Tequila on a Saturday evening around 6:30 PM - we were seated indoors immediately, with warm chips/salsa served immediately, and the service was fast! The ambiance was clean, but the indoor vibe was a bit like a cafeteria. I felt like there could be more tables? As a plus, they had table side guacamole which came around on a cart! The drinks were good (paloma + skinny guava marg) and there was a different vegetarian vegan section which was great for us! We got the vegan burrito which had soy meat, and all of it was well flavored. We also got the vegetarian enchiladas which were just okay, which is the reason for 4 stars. The enchiladas had a white cheese sauce which was just too much cheese with cheese enchiladas. We would definitely come back, just to try others or just to have a drink! read more

Came here for taco Tuesday more like tequila Tuesday. Blackberry jumbo margarita was huge definitely recommend taking advantage of the jumbo option. Bartender also suggested trying the street tacos they were good. read more

We have been awaiting the opening of Tacos Y Tequila for a long time. We went opening weekend and we're happy to be welcomed in and sat right away. We were served complimentary chips and salsa which was a great start. The server came to the table quickly, and got our drinks order (although there was no drink menu). We ordered house margaritas, enchiladas and the burrito al pastor. The food came out quickly and was delish! We have been back several times since then for both dine in and take out. The food has been consistent and we've since tried several tacos and love the tomatillo salsa. The place is very clean and feels so fresh!! It is so nice to have on colley, and while there are several other Mexican establishments in the area, this has quickly become my favorite. read more

The food is great here! We went last night. The restaurant was mostly full and our server was great. The food and drinks came out quickly especially for the restaurant only being opened a few weeks. Food was terrible. Soggy quesadillas and no seasoning in the chicken or beef tacos. Mexican rice was hard and crunchy. Really disappointed on the food quality. I happen to work for the BBB and I can honestly say the customer service towards my family and I was horrible (specifically the bartender). She poured the wrong drinks and refused to swap them out for what we actually wanted. The food was pretty good but they don't treat you like you're welcome if you're not Hispanic. read more

The dips & margs were great but nothing else was.. We got choriqueso, fresh table side guacamole & margaritas which were all great. The entrees were terrible. I ordered mahi mahi tacos which, according to the menu, comes with onion & cheese (menu picture). When my entree arrived without those I asked my server for it. He informed me that it does not come with that and charged me for them after (receipt picture). Even after paying more for what the menu promised me, the tacos were not good. My gf orders carnitas at every Mexican restaurant we got to. Hers from here were so dry they were hard to swallow. We disliked our entrees very much. We may go back for dips & margs if we could get a different waiter but would be very hesitant to try more entrees. read more

Came here on a late Saturday night (9pm). Went to a show and decided to grab dinner here. We were greeted promptly and seated in the back. The booth was in an odd angle/spot. We were seated next to a pillar/wall. So have the view looking towards the restaurant was obstructed. Server was ok. Had to request for water and what have you. Was patient with us. Salsa that was offered was pretty good. Wish the chips were warm. Food, about the same as any other Mexican place. We ordered fajitas and chimichangas. Walking up the street you can hear the music playing. Very festive and welcoming energy for sure! Service was quick and very attentive the whole time we were there. We ordered the Chicken Fajitas and it came with refried beans and rice and the portion sizes are great. I didn't try the beans or rice but my husband did and couldn't get enough. When the food came out, it was hot and sizzling, letting off the best aroma ever! The chicken was tender and juicy, and had so much flavor with every single bite! okay I was really contemplating writing this. I want to make this my spot but the last 2 times I came on Tuesday for happy hour I've been treated horribly and it makes me so upset Becuase I do no play about my food. The first time the guy took forever to even get our drinks and then the drinks took forever to come out and almost 40 min to take our orders. I was visibly upset and once our server saw that he started actually taking care of our table. The second time which is today again for happy hour. Our server was not attentive at all and I saw him being super attentive with another table. It took forever to get our drinks ONCE again and then our orders were finally taken. The food was slightly cold. He only checked up on us once to ask if we wanted drinks and how to separate tickets. The server that previously served us saw I was upset and came to check in TWICE. Please please please work on your servers being better this place has so much potential. I never like to complain but today was the day it's been twice in a row. read more

I've eaten here a dozen times since the best restaurant opened last month. If you're looking for a delicious Mexican meal, I highly recommend "TACOS Y TEQUILA". I am vegetarian(no egg/no fish). Price point was about $16 for a burger and fries without a drink. We ordered the regular cheeseburger, the Cowboy (bacon, BBQ sauce, and American cheese), the Cobra Kai (cream cheese, pickled jalapeños, and jalapeño jelly), and the Classic Jack (caramelized onions, JB sauce, and dill pickles). Everything tasted solid and came out hot. The restaurant itself is very small and does not seem ideal for larger groups. Despite this, I loved the ambiance, it has a dive bar vibe with lots of notes on dollar bills on the walls that were fun to read. I will be coming back again when in the area! A special shoutout to the waitress with the bridge piercing. She was friendly, accommodating, and quick with service, which really stood out.

I had a pleasant dining experience with my family at Tacos y Tequila in Ghent. It's a great spot for enjoying Mexican food with friends and family. The restaurant has ample seating, making it easy to find a table, and parking wasn't difficult to locate. The atmosphere was lively, filled with people enjoying their meals and the vibrant ambiance. Upon entering, we were greeted warmly and promptly offered a booth with a high chair for my child, which was thoughtful. The menu itself is fun to explore--it's a large, detailed menu with plenty of options ranging from street tacos and burritos to seafood dishes and chimichangas. Our food arrived quickly, and the flavors didn't disappoint. I had the chicken and rice bowl, which was flavorful with tender chicken and perfectly cooked rice. My family tried the burrito topped with fresh pico de gallo and tacos, all of which were delicious. The hot sauce was a standout, adding just the right kick to each dish. The only downside was the wait time for additional service. It took quite a while before our server checked back in, and I wanted to order another drink but couldn't due to the delay. It seemed like the staff was doing their best but was likely understaffed given the crowd. Overall, the experience was enjoyable, and the food was worth it. 9:00pm Thursday with the Hubs My goodness what can I say about this place? The bartender, Rebecca, was fabulous!!! She recommended a watermelon peach margarita that was sooo delicious and wasn't too sweet! The table side guac was good and spicy. Rebecca also recommended the Birria tacos. There was so much flavor that I saved one for lunch tomorrow. She said that this was a taco that would make a good leftover. The Hubs had the Mahi tacos, and he didn't quit until they were gone. He even gave his "they were good" seal of approval. I'm so glad our friend recommended TyT to us. We will definitely be back for more! read more
