Gringa de pastor (left) Torta de la Casa torta rica (right)

Decent food truck located on 53rd street. This place has decent parking and food comes out pretty quick. If you work or live around here you probably frequent it often. Side note, this part of Austin feels like it's stuck in time and development hasn't really touched this street yet. Definitely an old Austin feel on 53rd. I got the carne asada plate which was tasty but I wish they would've used a different cut of beef it was really thin and made me wishing there was more to it. My brother got the gringa, which was tasty, but pretty pricey (I don't think it's worth the price). The best thing was the Torta. If I lived here I'd probably go more often and try to find the best thing on their menu. This place is ok.

4 tacos all pretty bland in taste!

We were just driving by really hungry and found this highly rated taco food truck, but were soooo disappointed! The seating area is actually really nice & cute for food truck seating, but the food was reaaaaally lacking flavor and a little over priced for food truck food! What we ordered and don't recommend: - Barbacoa Tacos: everyone in the reviews raved about this and honestly it was the WORST one we got! There was really NOOOO taste ... unless I got the wrong memo and should be adding my own salt and sauces, this really was not enjoyable! - Asada Tacos & Pastor Tacos were a bit more flavored than the barbacoa, but were still far from any decent taco I've had before. - Torta de la casa: again the flavor was not there, and it was a tad dry. We got the green and red salsa but it really didn't do the tacos not torta much justice. All I can say is eat at your own risk...

I would honestly consider moving to Austin just to be closer to Tacos Yo Soy. Wow, just wow! I think the best thing I ate my entire trip was the barbacoa taco from this modest taco truck. The chicken tinga was also so delicious, but it's a week later and I'm still thinking about the dang barbacoa. Tacos Yo So serves their tacos with a couple options of salsa, one green, one red. Both delicious. I ordered my tacos on flour tortillas, and I savored every single bite for so long the tortillas got super soggy, but who cares. Still delicious. I topped it all off with a Mexican Coke (1L). Ugh what a meal!

Delicious tacos only $2.50 each, tasty tamales, excellent service. I recommend the barbacoa: tender, slow cooked beef that will melt in your mouth, topped with fresh cilantro.

Decided to try Tacos Yo Soy Saturday morning and it did not disappoint. I ordered 2 barbacoa tacos and an egg and potato breakfast taco. The barbacoa came with a corn tortilla and the breakfast taco came with a flour tortilla. They both really impressed me! I'll definitely be back to try more tacos!

    Mini tacos plate

I got the mini tacos pastor plate. Pastor could use more flavoring but overall pretty good. Would recommended them!

Oh my god! This place is absolutely amazing!! I'm visiting from Dallas and I was excited to find a cute food truck to stop at and wow am I happy I stopped here! The food is so good I could eat here over and over again! I had the chicken taco plate with rice and beans. Everything was fresh and delicious!! I'm really excited to come back for more!!!

We love coming here for tacos, tortas, and agua frescas, but everything we've tried has been tasty. Lucky enough to live close, so I've spent a lot of time here. They have a good selection of meat like the pastor and barbacoa. I always look forward to coming here. The owners are very nice and help

And at least they don't oversalt everything with Fiesta seasoning like some places do. They don't have a liquor license but they serve beer, wine and frozen margaritas, which aren't bad but they're officially "wineritas" because they don't have tequila in them. But my wife likes them. The interior space is pretty nice, especially the Eastern room. But some of the booths are old and really need new cushions in them. I'm hoping they invest in this place when the new, nearby community opens up and they gain new patrons. If it improves, we'll come here more often. It has potential. That said, we were disappointed on this visit. The waiter literally pulled something out of my drink with his fingers before serving it to me, hoping I wouldn't notice. Who does that? If something's fallen into it, just take it back to the kitchen and get another one. Don't dip your fingers into guests' drinks. Please. The guacamole was interesting. Just unseasoned, mashed up avocado. No onion. No serrano peppers. Little to no salt or lime. Diced tomatoes were served on the side (as not to water down the guac), and it was served over shredded iceberg lettuce. I did taste fresh. And there was salt on the table if you wanted it. I guess I just expected it to be more prepared. It would have been a nice respite from the heat if our meal was spicy. But we've never had anything there that was spicy.

We tried a variety of tacos, including breakfast tacos and we experienced tlacoyos for the first time (similar to gorditas). Outdoor seating only, in a rustic, rural environment, including a rooster roaming around between the umbrellaed picnic tables. The food is more typical of a ranch house family meal than of restaurant-style Tex-Mex. For example, they don't whisk their eggs before they scramble them. They just crack them directly into the skillet and kind of mix it together slightly with the spatula as they cook. They had both red and green salsa available, but both were very mild, and thin enough for a squeeze bottle. We didn't notice any chips, salsa bowls, guacamole, jalapeños or lime wedges. And none of the flavors were amped up. It just all came across as the typical home cooking they'd been raised on. But that has its own charm. And the tortillas (flour or white corn) all seemed homemade They have sodas, horchata and aguas frescas (no beer), or coffee (instant, I believe). But don't plan to stay too long or drink too much coffee, as there is no public restroom here.

And they keep the place exceptionally clean. Our server made us feel very welcome even though we showed up just before closing time (they close at 2 pm Tue - Sun and are closed all day Monday). Half the menu was breakfast and the other half was lunch. Beverages were colas, coffee, tea, lemonade and horchata. Lunch here is your typical Mexican lunch menu: tacos, enchiladas, quesadillas, fajitas, etc. They also had two specials today: Enchiladas Verde and Quesabirria Tacos. We tried and enjoyed both. The enchiladas had a lot of chicken in them. And while the birria lacked its typical au jus to dip the tacos in, they were still quite authentic and flavorful. The complimentary chips and salsa comes with a bean dip, and with two additional chile options, a spicy red chile and a chile verde. It was nice having all those options. For a healthier option, they also offer a large bowl of tortilla soup with spanish rice on the side. I'm not sure why they choose to open a Mexican restaurant right next to a Mexican restaurant, but the two restaurants are very different and keep different hours. We will come back to try their breakfast, as that appears to be their specialty.

I've traveled all over Texas and across the U.S., and I can say without hesitation that Las Cocinas Mexican Grill is hands-down the BEST Mexican restaurant I have ever been to -- and that includes all of Austin. My family and I come here several times a week, even though we don't live close by. That alone should tell you how incredible this place is. Must-try favorites (do NOT skip these): The Margaritas - Very strong and absolutely perfect. Order them half & half (half on the rocks, half frozen). Trust me -- you'll thank me later. Nachos Al Carbon (Appetizer) - The beef fajita meat is out of this world. Tender, flavorful, and unforgettable. Beef Fajitas Cremosas (Entrée) - Get them with EXTRA sun-dried tomatoes. Oh. My. God. I have never had anything like this in my life, and it's something I crave several times a week. Stuffed Jalapeños - So good I sometimes order them as my entire meal. And the onion rings they're served on? Easily the best onion rings I've ever had anywhere. Beyond the food, the staff is absolutely amazing. From the moment you walk in, they make you feel like family -- warm, welcoming, and genuinely happy you're there. That kind of service is rare, and it's one of the many reasons this place is so special to us. And yes -- I always forget to take pictures of my food because I eat it before I remember to take photos for a review . That should tell you everything you need to know about how good it is. We are incredibly thankful for Las Cocinas. It's not just our favorite Mexican restaurant -- it's our favorite restaurant, period, and the best in the entire area by a mile. Perfect in every way.
