Took ny wife and 2 kids to Taiko early on a Saturday night. Warmly greeted and quickly seated. We ordered a fair bit of food, underestimated the size of the dishes despite having eaten here a few times over the years.
The Sashimi was really good. Not the best I've had, but certainly nothing to complain about. Reasonable value.
The Chicken Karaage was excellent too. Brocolli with Sesame dressing, was cold, which would have been nice to have known in advance, however, was nicely cooked.
We got Tempura. Word of warning, this isn't done the way you might expect it, and it's not our favourite way of having it. The vegetables were nicely cooked, I just don't really love the batter.
The calamari was good. The calamari wasn't super tender, however really edible, just a little too firm to hold the delicate but delicious batter. If this batter was used with their tempura I think it would be better.
We ordered too much food, so we ended up with a fair bit to take away. To their credit the entrees are really decent size, good value really. Chicken Teriyaki was excellent. We got the pork belly but were too full to try it, focusing instead, on the dishes that wouldn't reheat well.
The only bad thing about the food tonight, was the main steak dish. Overcooked and pretty tough, really not good enough in my opinion. The soy dressing was nice, but the starch accompaniment wasn't really pleasant either. All in all, I'd rather have missed that dish, it took a little shine off the meal.
Service was efficient, the food came out SUPER quick, which is always appreciated when you have two young (hungry) kids.
We wouldn't hesitate to return here, or to recommend it to others. read more
