Look at all the reviews for this place that aren't recommended by yelp. Somehow all of the better reviews show up, but the bad ones get burried. BEWARE OF THIS PLACE. I always try to support small business, but I have to draw the line here. I work in the area and have stopped by a couple of times on the way to the office to pick up sandwiches. Each time I stop in, the same guy is working the counter. I assume he is the owner. Each time he gives a bit of an attitude because I didn't call my order in ahead of time. Kind of like it's an inconvenience to him to take a to go order. Isn't that what deli's do?I can go to any of the twenty other sandwich shops in the area, and they don't seem to have any problem with handling an order for a turkey sandwich. Today, I walked in, and the same guy shouted from behind a cooler "Can I help you?" I said I would like to order three turkey sandwiches. He exhaled like it was a terrible thing that he had to take another order. Then he said "Do you want a sub or a sandwich?" To which I answered 3 turkey sandwiches. He wasn't getting that I needed to order 3 separate sandwiches. Then he finally approached the counter with the same attitude he always has and said "You gotta speak up." I said, "No, common courtesy would be to stop what your doing, and listen to what your customer is ordering. Forget it, I'm leaving." His response was to talk over me and make a sad face and he said in baby talk, "Aw, are you gonna leave? Did I offend you?" Nice customer service! From past experience, I can say the sandwiches here are pretty average. I drove about 10 blocks to another deli on Colvin And Hertel, was greeted with a smile, placed my order, and had a great lunch. There are too many options in the north buffalo/kenmore area. I say teach this guy a lesson, and support businesses that appreciate their customers. After today I will NEVER eat at this deli EVER AGAIN. I was in the car with my gf and we decided to call and order lunch from Tail Gate... simple right? You would think so. I asked for the Cajun chicken salad, the person on the phone said they were out. Not a problem. So I said "Okay, then can I get the steak salad?" His response was "We aren't actually serving any hot salads at this time" Again not a problem. Since I didn't know any other salads besides those two I asked him "what other options do you have for cold salads then?" This is where I was so shocked at how horrible the customer service was at this place. He said "You can just look at the menu and if you don't have one you can look up our menu online. I have heard so many stories of bad service, it's awful. I love the Coumadin this place but don't always have time to call ahead. You know how it is if you get something done run out for lunch and run back to work. Today, I walked in and stood in line. I often get food from Tail Gate for work. Their food is great! Huge portions and I've never had a problem with the food. They are really lacking in their customer service, which others have noted as well. I always call ahead for the order and because we've had problems before, I make sure to use the menu online, the one that should be the most up to date. Yesterday when I called for my team, there were 2 people that wanted the fish fry. Their website said they had it everyday. When I told him that, he barked back "WE DON'T DO THAT! READ THE MENU!" I told him it said they did online but I knew it was a battle I would lose. I told my co-workers this, and a lady told me a story where she got yelled at on the phone as well. When I went to pick up my order, I saw that same guy actually yell at a guy in the restaurant who was ordering his food. If the deli wasn't so close to where I work, and the food wasn't so good, I absolutely wouldn't go! Love Tailgate Deli! Food is high quality and you get A LOT for the price. My favorite menu items are the turkey club wrap, Cajun turkey sub and potato bacon soup. The turkey is roasted daily and not like the normal processed crap, which is why I always order it. Beef on weck is also good. This place is a hidden gem in Tonawanda. Anyone who knows about it will vouch! The owner is phenomenal. He is always super friendly and really knows how to pack a sandwich to the brim. My go to is usually the sausage sub or the steak sub (half, that's all you'll need!). I also have gotten a turkey sub here and they are delicious as well! I am a huge fan of local business and he keeps people coming back with his hometown pride and happiness to serve others. Yes, you get a lot of food for the price but the quality really isn't anything to write home about. They do nothing to stand out among other places in the area. Their customer service is HORRIBLE. He (the owner) refuses to make hot subs if it's mildly warm out. He becomes visibly upset if you order in-store instead of calling in- even during dead hours. I've been in there at 4:30 while no customers were inside and no phone in orders were hanging up and he told me he'd "do it this time" but not again. Unreal. I've worked in deli's my whole life, and I understand that working in the heat or dealing with a rush can be annoying but it comes with the territory. They owner needs to grow up or sell. read more

So I can't say anything bad about this place except for the fact I could not finish my sub. It was so good the chicken fingers were crispy and the fixins' were fresh. The food is great although j haven't tried hot foods just the deli meats, and they come in HUGE portions You don't get cursed out on the phone unlike what some other dude said. Just moved to Kenmore and have been tackling all of the local grub. This place came highly recommended, so it was high on the list to try. "Cajun turkey club" is what I was told to get, and WOW! I live about two blocks from this place and decided to check it out a few months ago. I love a good sandwich, and had a brief fantasy that this would become my regular, go-to place. I walked in at 5:15 on a weekday, and was promptly greeted with a curt "we are closed" by a man behind the counter. I was disappointed and a little confused, as the store's "open" sign was on, the hours posted said they were open until 6pm, and he was seemingly engaged in a casual, laughing conversation with another customer at the counter. I tried not to draw any conclusions and came back a few weeks later to the same man giving a seriously poor attitude to another customer trying to place an order. I don't care how damn good his sandwiches are - I value my digestion more than letting it become acidic listening to Mr. Rude. Love this place! The best sub you will ever have is at this establishment! The meat is STACKED on every sub I ever had. You don't get these size subs anywhere! Fresh rolls, veggies and the oil is amazing! The deli is more than clean....its is spotless!
