They did say that the salad bar was unlimited. What little or was. Yet, they required you to get a second small plate rather than just give you one large plate to get your food. Places like this should be shut down. Save your money go to mcdonald's at least there. They have eggs in a salad. When my wife informed them that we would not be back to have dinner here ever again. None of the food stood out to me, or made me want to go back. There's no wow factor. French fries are crinkle cut and bland so make sure you add seasoning. Mushroom burger was just a flavorless mushroom burger. It was ok. But not worth the 40 minute drive.

I was disappointed…read morethat the online booking tool did not allow me to enter a special occasion so the restaurant had no idea it was our anniversary. There is apparently no difference in service. My hubs ordered a glass of merlot and I ordered their lemon/blueberry martini. The merlot was nice but the martini was out of this world. My new fave drink! We started with the asparagus dip and again, the best we'd ever tried. We ordered their smothered chicken and an off menu pasta with sausage. Both were incredible. I wanted to try their pasta so I ordered a side of fettuccine in herbed butter. It too was lovely. The venue is in the basement of a former Carnegie Library. It's a little dark and has a speakeasy feel. We turned the lamp on our table to a brighter setting to see a bit better. Our server was Chris. He is very knowledgeable and gave us a lot of information about the food, business and building. The GM, Jeremy, gave us a tour of the upstairs portion of the building where they hold specialty events. Overall, we loved all of our evening and were able to have this experience right at $100 for both of us. We'll be back!

NY strip wrapped Asparagus was good but not something I'd get again ... kind of bland. My SO ordered Pork Parmesan over spaghetti but didn't like it as much as I liked the smothered chicken. It had great flavor and texture with mashed potatoes and green beans. With the new ownership, I was hoping for an upgrade in the dining area. We went on a weekday for a special occasion... my SO's birthday. They gave him a card which was a nice gesture but service was slow for a slow night. The room was freezing... the door opens and the cold rushes into the basement-like dining room. It's still too dark (couldn't see the menu without using our phone flashlight). The chairs are not comfortable. Overall it's too expensive for me and it'll be a long time before I go again. (We tend to drive to Fortville for dinner and are never disappointed with multiple restaurants to choose from. ) The reason I gave a 3 is because of the service, the room temperature and the fact that we only really enjoyed the chicken dish. They also might serve a piece of cake for a birthday if they wanted to impress me... lol.

Kelli told us what was happening, gave us free pie and took our drinks off our bill and asked if we wanted it to go. Our dinner was finally ready after 35 minutes, so we boxed it up and went home. Kelli apologized multiple times, and that's how service is supposed to happen. The pie was fantastic, apple and coconut cream. Fish was very good, shrimp was good, mashed potatoes and corn ok. Tartar sauce, yummy. Thanks to Kelli for making our long wait

It gives you a warm feeling watching people catching up with each other and just being friendly. And the staff is a huge part of that experience. They will make you feel like a VIP. You might even meet some of the cooks who sometimes deliver the food themselves and the owner who also has a strong presence in the restaurant. Apparently, Lumpy's is a favorite of the locals. The staff calls the regulars by name. Everyone else is "Honey." I was "Honey." There was a table of regulars drinking coffee and talking politics and shooting the bull. It's a salt of the earth kind of local diner. A table opened up by the door after ten minutes. The menu is filled with comfort food. Most meals under $10. Nothing fancy, omelettes, burgers, sandwiches. Our server was sweet and recommended the tenderloins. The dining room is simple. Chairs and tables and a few booths. On the back wall are old photos of veterans. Local veterans being remembered by the cafe. My husband had the Big Tenderloin (which is award winning) with seasoned fries. The tenderloin was as big as his head. The meat was moist and tender and the breading seasoned well. The fries were crispy thin-cut with a few spices. He ate half the sandwich. I had the Crispy Chicken Sandwich. It was also seasoned with a crunchy breading similar to the tenderloin. The meat was moist. The cole slaw was creamy and sweet....delicious. They do a robust business in-house and carry out. If you are looking for avocado toast and and oat milk latte, this is not the place to come. If good old comfort food will suffice, then it just doesn't get better than Lumpy's.
