Absolutely ridiculous customer service. They quoted a wait time of 30-45 minutes knowing there were huge parties on the list already. When that time came up, they couldn't seat us and wanted to add 45-90 minutes on top of what we already waited. The only response they had was sorry our mistake. If they had quoted the correct wait time we wouldn't have wasted almost an hour. Do better Taku. read more

Taku is one of our go to places when we want a change of pace from American fare. Highly recommend. Only downside would be extremely busy on weekends but that speaks to how good it is. Great family gathering! read more

Columbus, IN isn't known for a huge number of culinary options and my girlfriend and I were looking for a little different type of meal. When she suggested Taku it was an easy choice. I have always been a big fan of Tepanyaki style restaurants and they didn't disappoint. My girlfriend loves Crab Rangoon so she started with those while I got us set up with a nice Nigori Sake. If you haven't had Nigori Sake before it's very different from basic Sake as it is unfiltered which makes it cloudy and it is served chilled. A little on the sweet side may throw some people off but it pairs very well with Japanese cuisine. We had the dinner for 2 which had NY Strip, Scallops, and Chicken, along with fried rice, soup, and salad. The soup was very tasty though unremarkable. The salad was basic Iceberg lettuce with a decent ginger dressing, but the fried rice was quite good and was prepared with the rest of the meal. Our server was very attentive and helped with the Sake selection. The "chef" was very personable and did his best to put on a good show but not to the point of letting it take over for his cooking abilities. While the interior was a bit dated the atmosphere was upbeat and it was very clean and comfortable. Definitely will be going back! read more

We were searching for places near the children's museum for lunch and so happy to find Taku. The lunch menu goes till 2:30, and we tried sushi as well as hibachi. It was delicious! The sushi seemed fresh, and was simple and good. The hibachi was also delicious. The yum yum sauce was well balanced not too sweet or anything, the edamame was salty, crisp and good. The salad ginger dressing was very similar to the yum yum sauce. It was good. We'll be back! The service was prompt. read more

Went on 2/13/2026 for my friends birthday. Ordered NY strip extra rare. He cooked it well done. Gave me the smallest portion of vegetables, smaller than you would expect for a kids portion. Ordered 2 sets of 2 shrimp, got none at all until we asked for them then was given 2 and they said, "we took $.75 off your bill!" ......."$.75!!" Are you kidding me?? The place is a joke. We spent $100 for 2 people, this less than average quality food was not worth $40. My friends swordfish that she ordered medium rare was also well done. Everyone around us complained that their shrimp was extra overcooked and very dry, chewy, tough. The guy had no aim at all when it came to the. Sake shoot, splattering it all over everyone's clothes.. the place has decent ambience except the lights are way too bright. Overall, way, overpriced for the quality. read more

Love hitting Taku when in town. We will visit Columbus 4-5 times a year and each time Taku is our place to eat. The food is excellent, the chefs run riot with entertainement and we love taking friends to eat. My picky daughter loves her Hibachi chicken and I have not seen my son ever drink so much Saki from the chefs bottle. We love Hibachi and Taku is up there with the best of them.. read more

Good food, fast service. Nice little place. We would come again. Now for the reason it's not a five star review; we've had ramen at quite a few different places so we have a lot to compare to. The miso ramen had a lot to be improved. Lots of corn... it's like they poured a full can in my bowl. Broth was eh. My usual place has more flavor to it. My wife got the chicken ramen so we actually don't have anything to compare to besides the broth. The chicken was amazing, and the broth was very flavorful. Very impressed with our first visit to Taku! Went on a weeknight & sat down immediately. We were asked if we were there for hibachi or a regular table so they know where to seat you. Waiter Service was always prompt and polite! For appetizer, I got the crab Rangoon -- light & crispy with a house-made sweet chili sauce with fresh pineapples. Delicious combo! For an entree, I got "Maki C" -- three different types of fully cooked maki rolls (a pregnant woman's delight in finding cooked maki!) My favorite of the three was actually the California roll because it was SO FRESH. I've never had a better california roll!! Hubby got chicken tempura. Everything was breaded and fried in a light crispy batter. Lots of vegetable variety with your choice of rice on the side. Both meals came with miso soup (yum) and salad with house-made dressing. I have never had a better Asian house salad!!! I couldn't believe how delicious their sauce was. The waiter said you can buy their dressing & I am kicking myself that I didn't! Restaurant was very clean and bright, with pop music playing in the background. I was in the area for a couple weeks on a work trip and decided to try this place a few times. Overall, I thought it was average to below average. The staff were for the most part great. My first visit I had a waitress who was completely inattentive and unwilling to answer simple questions I had about the menu. But the hibachi table chef, sushi bar chef, and other staff were great. The sushi bar chef in particular was incredibly friendly and would strike up conversations with patrons. As for the food, Sashimi Deluxe (Raw Fish) - The fish definitely did not taste fresh and the selection was lacking. Since when is imitation crab appropriate for a $24 sashimi plate? Seemed like they were cutting corners with this dish. But it was nicely presented, at least. Unagi Don (Eel over Rice) - Served in a beautiful bowl with a lid to keep it warm, it was nicely presented. Overall, delicious. But I was able to see them microwaving the eel from my seat which hurt the "immersion" for me, so to speak. Matcha-flavored (Green Tea) Mochi Ice Cream - Good, as expected, but served in a very Americanized fashion with whipped cream and a maraschino cherry. Hibachi Scallops - When I was eating them, I really enjoyed them. I'd never had hibachi scallops, so it was a fun treat. It was also a lot of food, I ended up taking some back with me. Everything was great until I realized I had mild food poisoning later (main reason the review dropped down to 2 stars). So maybe a bad choice for hibachi? Being the only place in town, it's fine. However, as someone who has experienced all levels of Japanese food here in the US (from middle-of-nowhere towns to gourmet omakase), this one is definitely on the lower end, especially given the mild food poisoning I experienced with the scallop hibachi (which always drops my scores by an extra point). There are definitely some better dinner places in downtown Columbus I'd recommend more highly. read more

Monday, 8/22/2022 - We went to have lunch at "Taku Steakhouse" in Columbus, Indiana. Address is 305 4th St, Columbus, IN 47201. This is street parking only. We didn't have to pay for street parking here. Yay! Upon arrival: Pros: 1) no waiting when we arrived for lunch. Walk right in and got seated right away. 2) the hostess was so nice. 3) the lady that took our orders and drinks was super nice and friendly. 4) our chef was very entertaining and sweet. He made a large fire on the cooking top. He asked if we wanted to try catching a piece of small, cooked broccoli in our mouth when he tosses it to us. We all tried. Only one of us was able to catch it. Lol. Made us all laugh. 5) scallop, steak, filet mignon, veggies, fried rice, and noodles were all cooked deliciously! 6) water tasted good. No metal or funky taste. 7) soda and tea were good. 8) utensils, cups, plates, bowls, table, chairs were all clean. Cons: 1) the chicken was cooked a little too long. So it was a bit too dry. Conclusion: We liked this restaurant. It was very good. Just the right amount of foods. Not to much. Not too little that we left still hungry. Salad and dressing was good. Sauce was good. Foods good. Staffs were very nice and professional. I recommend this location. read more

I've been here twice, once recently and once like 5 years ago. It's really tasty and fun! We sit at the hibachi tables where they seat you next to others (8 chairs each). The hibachi choices start at $20 and go up from there. Choice of rice or noodle and choice of meat. Includes soup and a show. The cooks are gregarious and entertaining. This is one of those places where they set the grill on fire and toss food into people's mouths and sake (tho you can decline). Service was slow and a bit disorganized so just don't assume this will go quickly. But it's worth it. read more

On our most recent visit, we were seated without a long wait and greeted by our chef within minutes of sitting down. He had a great sense of humor and was very personable. The food was delicious and full of flavor. I recommend the Chicken/Steak Hibachi Combo (served with Fried Rice, House Salad and Clear Soup) and a side of Noodles. This definitely may be more of a dine in place, but from a takeout perspective, it was just okay. Ordering is made easy online and our food was ready at the quoted pick up time. Both entrees came with soup and a house salad. The soup was pretty tasteless but I did enjoy the house salad and dressing. The veggies, chicken and steak that came with my meal were fine, but nothing really stood out. The fried rice was just okay. It also came with a side of yum yum sauce which was standard. Way overpriced for marginal food. We've often enjoyed the hibachi grill style dinner with an entertaining chef. But Taku took it a bit far. Stop throwing broccoli at us...every single person at table. Waste of food. And most of us don't like stuff thrown in our faces. And no "sake" squirted at us next time! Gross. Salad was all white iceberg with dressing so watered down it had not flavor. Soup was okay but hard to mess up broth. Service was okay but no drink refills. Upon request, brought soy sauce but no dish for it...had to ask. Hibachi was good. Meat seemed fresh. Very little veggies x maybe he had wrong amount for number of our party. $350 for 9 of us with just a couple non-water drinks seemed very high for quality of food. Don't think we'll be back. Restaurant laid out well. Lots of windows. Front desk staff acted as if a hassle to seat us, despite reservation. And table wasn't ready/clean. Had to wait 10-15 more minutes. I LOVED this place. Hibachi type dining as well as a sushi bar counter to watch the sushi maker as they work their art. I sat in the menu ordering side, ordered from the menu. A poke bowl and a glass of plum wine. I dined alone and was not the only single diner on site which was inviting. Service was good. Atmosphere was lively and kind. It was a great experience. Wow! This was my families first time coming to Taku! It was such a fun experience from my kids all the way up to my parents, who were there celebrating their 78th bday. We all enjoyed our food, but the experience with our hibachi chef was epic! He made our dining experience a joy. He made us laugh so much! My 4 boys ranging from 9-18 said it was going to the top of their awesome restaurant list. So delicious! We have been wanting to try eating here for years and finally got the opportunity and it was spectacular. The building is easy to find and located next to the commons in Columbus and is within walking distance of many other wonderful activities to do around down town. The menu is surprisingly large and has something for just about everyone to enjoy even for the most picky of eaters (such as myself) and has a quick to serve staff on top of their game. The menu prices are kinda shocking but the portions are large and you definitely get what you pay for. We loved it and will be back for sure. read more

My wife and I stopped in for lunch during the week and had really good food and service. After finding some free street parking nearby, we entered and were greeted. A bar was to our left with the hibachi dining area beyond that. In front of us was the regular dining area where were were shown to our table by the hostess. After getting our drink orders taken and delivered, my wife went with the Shogun Crispy Chicken and upgraded her side to fried rice instead of white rice. The portions were generous, especially after eating the side salad she selected with her entree. She thought the spice level was fine unless you eat one of the small peppers which really kick up the heat level. Overall, she really enjoyed her entree. We also had started with a bowl of edamame which were cooked correctly but, like many places, had more salt on the top of the pile than on the bottom. I wish they would salt them while spread out on a surface for even seasoning, then put them into the serving bowl. For my meal, I ordered something called a "Seafood Martini" because it has a mixture of five kinds of seafood served in a martini glass along with shredded strips of cucumber and three kinds of sauces. Full flavor and really delicious! I had no trouble using my chopsticks to pick up all the small bits inside the glass. I also ordered the Cowboy Roll which was unique to my dining experience since each piece of the roll is topped with a small slice of steak. With the cream cheese inside the roll, it was probably the flavor combo I would recommend to non-fish/sushi eaters to try. Beef and cheese tastes were dominant over the shrimp and avocado. Food was good but they are sneaky on the billing. My kid, 8, ordered the hibachi which was supposed to be a kids price. When I got the bill it was the full price. I tried talking to them but they stated no one let them know. Talked to a manager and nothing was done. If you want the kids price tell them that up front. Ordered about $55 dollars worth of food for lunch for carry out. The wait was long and the food was horrible. The shrimp was overcooked and the veggies were minimal. The rice smelled and tasted like it was reheated from last night yuck! Never again if you want GREAT HIBACHI, please go to KUMO in Greenwood.
