Went there to celebrate a special anniversary and arrived on a Friday night without reservations (what was I thinking???), but decided to wait. So glad for that decision. The atmosphere is bright and hip at the same time. Sure, the tables are tight, don't expect dining intimacy here and that is a good thing ("oohh..what is that?" asking the neighboring table). Our server was absolutely fantastic, she had a notepad with descriptions of nearly all the cocktails/whiskeys so she could guide along to a best choice! Even with the place being packed, she was friendly and attentive. When it came to the food, all I can say is that everything was fresh, beautifully prepared and presented. This is the best sushi I have ever had, all the positive reviews are telling the truth! Taku is the new standard for a 5 star review from me. The vegetable truffle and torched hamachi rolls are my favorite and the staff are all such a cool vibe. The price of everything is great for the quality of the food, makes you want to support them even more! I saw them in an article in North Shore Mag and haven't stopped telling people to try it since. The chefs sometimes gift a sample to tables, and I hear they are moving to a bigger location down the street. The server acted like she could care less that we were there, she seemed very prejudice towards non-Asian or non-Japanese (I happen to be Indonesian, but my wife is Caucasian). Ignored my wife when she wanted another glass of wine (the first one was the wrong one). My son's cocktail which was suppose to have lychee, tasted flat & missing lychee. Definitely worth it. I hesitate to review Taku because I'd rather keep this place for myself so the Boston crowd doesn't come up here. The quality and taste of all the dishes is close to California quality and is far superior to Boston. The quality and freshness of the fish and care and passion that goes into creating these dishes really shows. It was so good I had to try the spicy tuna maki which was the freshest spicy tuna I've ever had, and the fresh scallop sushi to top it off had a thin slice of lemon that emphasized the fresh aspect. Absolutely phenomenal Sushi! Who knew you could get this quality of Sushi in Beverly!?! I'm so glad we tried it after reading many positive reviews on social media. The restaurant is spotless, the staff friendly and the sushi is fresh and divine! They go the extra mile too with their presentations, very thoughtfully plated, many in unique vessels and with those extra little touches that elevate the dining experience such as fresh flowers/orchids on the plates. The restaurant is tiny and I definitely prefer to go slightly off hours to avoid the crowds. The Sushi Chef (who I assume is the Owner) always thanks us for coming when we are ready to leave, which again is such a nice thing. I am only giving 3 stars based on the sushi alone (ordered with UberEats). I've never been inside or had any issues with the staff or establishment. I ordered spicy tuna maki, Alaskan maki and the crazy maki and I was extremely disappointed. I couldn't even continue eating after a few bites. I have these rolls at various locations and something was off about the taste of every single one of them. The salmon in the Alaskan maki was fully cooked (in every Alaskan roll I've ever had, it's raw) and for $40, I expected more. I probably won't order from here again but perhaps folks will have better luck dining in. read more
