Museums are usually my go to spots, but when in Praha, one must see a puppet show. Not just a boring puppet show, but marionette style. What so unique about this? well, Mozart especially composed for Prague "the opera of operas" -- Don Giovanni. In 1787, Don Giovanni premiered at the Stavovské Theatre which Mozart personally conducted. The National Marionette Theatre takes this exceptional opera and presents it in stylish costumes and stage performance marionettes. It's performed in a unique architectural space, art deco style (read: old theater with very old, uncomfortable wooden seats built for skinny people) Since they want to stay authentic to the original, the whole thing is done in Italian. While I think Italian is like love music to the ears, I can't understand a thing. So, listen with your heart and if you're bored, they do sell alcoholic beverages in the lobby. * hic *

Coming from a science background, it was much different than anything I've ever done. But I walked away with a sense of accomplishment and a confidence that I could step into the classroom the following day. The location is great if you live/work in the center, right next door to IP Pavlova tram and metro stop. I liked that this school has information posted everywhere in multiple languages, it was easy to get a hold of someone, easy to see their prices and course options. I was shocked that when I called, someone actually returned my calls to get me any information I needed. I like that the classes here are small, mine is 4 students, and that even though an A2 czech class should not be super challenging mine is because my teacher is only speaking czech. Most people would probably find this annoying and difficult but it really is the best way to learn a language and force yourself to think in it. So for that I really like their innovative approach. One downside here though is you need to have somewhat of a flexible schedule to get the times you really want for a specific class. The classes go once they have enough students and a teacher, not at the definitive level or time that you really want. I still think it is worth it to give them a call to see if/when they are starting classes if you are interested because they may have one starting that does fit with your schedule like mine did. Their classes are well below student average and price average form what I have compared locally. So if you can get your specified language/level and time then I think this is a really great choice for a language school in the center.

Staff here were very friendly and surprisingly mostly from the USA. They are pretty much able to speak english and czech here if you end up becoming a student in a private class. Great space for creative types, artists, musicians, photographers and the like. They are a place to do your creative work, hold your creative work, or meet other interesting people that share your passion for the arts. Very relaxed atmosphere, perfect for gatherings, jamming sessions or taking artsy photos in their prop photo room. Overall if this is your thing, taking photos, playing instruments and need some inspiration/bandmates/practice space, or you work as a dj and need space for your equipment to practice on, you have found your place.

I…read morewas sad to miss visiting in October as it was closed for renovation until January 2025, from the images online it truly fit the Rococo Era vibes of gilded extravagance. Plush crimson velvet stage curtains, booths and seating exude a romantic air of elegant society, while flowery gold and cream scrolling ornament the walls and ceilings. The stage is a centerpiece, at such a remarkable venue how could a performing artist not be inspired to bare their soul on stage? (lol or so my dramatic self imagines) Originally built as the New German Theatre in 1883 serving the German population in the city (opposite the Czech National Theatre), during WWII it became a haven for artists fleeing Nazi Germany. Post-war starting 1948 the theatre became incorporated into the Czech National Theater as one of its venues, as its focus shifted to Czech works, which it continued to do as it was renamed the Smetana Theatre (after the famed Czech composer of the same name) under the Czech Communist government until 1989. During this time it became popular venue for ballet as well. After this point, the change in government signaled a name alteration again, this time to the Prague State Opera. There isn't much street parking in the area, though you can find parking structures within a few minutes walk away. Easily accessible by foot, bus, tram, or metro if you're considering the public transit route, the nearest metro being Muzeum on the A/C lines about 2 blocks away. If I have the chance to visit Prague again I would certainly love to see a performance or concert here!

Black Light Theatre is unique...it's musical dance and light…read moreacrobatics, but with unique costumes and lighting so that you only see the parts that lit via "black light". It's not quite Cirque de Soleil, or the circus, or vaudeville...but its very modern and Czech chic? You have to see it to believe it...fortunately these shows are all relatively cheap if you're American, British, or western European...the enchanting 80 minute show was only about 580CZK/$26, a great price for great entertainment! They do a variety of shows around Prague, some even cheaper. Very Czech! Black Light Theater started in 1989, performing artists Alexander Čihař and Eva Asterová wanted to create their own unique brand of entertainment and live theater...mission accomplished!

As part of the Prague experience we decided to go to a black light theater performance. While we…read moreenjoyed seeing a behind-the-scenes look at the production, that seemed to be one of the few positives in the 1.25 hour performance. While I'm not a dance expert, I know toes should be pointed, group choreography should be in sync and partner work shouldn't look dangerous during lifts. There definitely was the feel of a novice production with these aspects and the young age of the performers. With that in mind, the same joke about female anatomy was countlessly performed and it continued to sour. As we attended a performance specifically noted as child-appropriate some of the jokes seemed to be in poor taste.
