Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts. I call it the…read moreKansas Opera House :). This massive performing arts center is like a State pride for Kansas City, Missouri. It reminded me of the famed Opera House in Australia, except that this one is at a crossroad, not near any sort of water body, and much closer to home in US !  Kansas , Missouri has been historically known for its jazz, classical music and theatre. It has this typical theatrical staging for an auditorium with all the seats facing the same way towards the stage, which is framed by an arch- this setting also has a fancy name - its called  Proscenium Arch ( pruh-see-ni-um - I had to ask google how to pronounce it ...lol)It is a non-profit theatre !!!!  Wow! Built to promote dance, opera, music , it is perfect for the city to live up to its reputation of being widely recognized destination for vibrant and colorful arts. It has two big halls interconnected with a foyer, its simply impressively massive and absolutely stunning architecture.  I read from the brochure that Acoustical considerations factored into every architectural decision of the building, right from the shape of the hall to the grain of the wood paneling. And also that it seats 1600 guests at a time. Located at the heart of downtown Kansas on 16th and Broadway, it is near the  city's Power & Light District, the T-Mobile Center and the Crossroads Arts District with plenty of parking within, but if you don't want to get stuck after a performance, it is better to take a cab here.

One on one street dance battle where the crowd decides who's the winner, red or blue, with wands that were handed out, narrowing the competition down to the final two. And the winner is Briana "Passion" Grey. The cost was only $16 dollars! Excuse my lack of video editing but for close up pictures and better videos check out the Kansas City Stars article.

It's older and the only disadvantage to this is the seating is not on levels like a more modern theater. As a person who is 5'2, I had to constantly try to move around in my seat to get a view between people's heads in the rows in front of me. I could never get really comfortable but that was my only complaint. If o were wealthier, I'd grab some of the box seats. That looks like fun! The show was fantastic and Carrington and her magnificent band performed music of resistance! She and her band did a twist on one of Max Roach's albums, We Insist! Starting out with the great Driva'Man. I enjoyed it so much! I know the theater is having an art auction to raise money soon of you love art especially local artists, this would be a great event to support. I'd love to go back to see more shows and plays.

Gorgeous Historic Venue, wonderful performances, great location downtown…read more I've seen jazz concerts, cabaret shows, local talent and touring shows. There is a parking garage to the west, street parking, or public transit. There is a concession stand in the lobby and they allow refreshments into the theater. I prefer the main floor, near the front. There is a balcony, the seats are narrow, and they have box seats as well. The bathrooms are small for the size of the venue, so there is usually a line.

The local studio choice for The Latenight Callers…read more Yes, this is an official endorsement. Months ago, when my band, The Latenight Callers, released a home-recorded EP of songs, we first went to Duane at Weights & Measures to do the Mastering for that release. After witnessing the care and detail he went through to ensure the highest sonic quality for our project, we knew we had a great opportunity in line to work with him for a full on recording project. Duane was open for discussion with us during the months of planning we spent before actually going into the studio to do the actual recording. The ability to work with him to best prepare ourselves as a band proved invaluable; we were able to confer with him on everything from the vintage microphones and outboard gear he employs to actually record with, to the more abstract and "arty" notions of what the band was looking for in overall production, mood, and process. Through all of our pre-production work, we were able to walk into the studio with confidence that we were going to be able to capture precisely what we set out for, and that Duane had the skills and sensitivity to help accomplish this. Once we started recording, Duane's professionalism, skills, ears, and stamina will available to us until we exhausted ourselves, keeping up with our myriad peculiarities and matching us with his own inspiration towards our project. After two full weekends utilizing everything his studio has to offer, the confidence we have in our recorded output is, without question, absolutely better than we could have even imagined. If you have a recording project you need worked up, whether as a full band or an individual musician, I cannot recommend Duane and Weights & Measures highly enough. Of course, the proof will be evident (from my standpoint, at least), when The Latenight Callers are able to release the results of this, here in the Spring.

So glad we came here!! What a great learning experience…read more Staff is super sweet and helpful. Museum is small but has tons of exhibits and it is well organized and decorated with a lot of interactive displays. Getting a glimpse of Ella Fitzgerald dress was one of many highlights for me. I had no idea how influential and historical Kansas City was to jazz music. I got to see the famous BLUE ROOM, we did not get a chance to have dinner or hear live music but you can if you schedule yourself accordingly. Parking is easy and free tickets are super cheap and they honor military discounts

I was expecting more from this museum…read more The museum is really small, and the few rooms are pretty sparse. There aren't many artifacts to look at. One pro is that the museum is very interactive. There's a lot of spots where you can play different jazz pieces and read about them. There's an interesting section that teaches you about rhythm, harmony, and mixing. Otherwise, the museum just has some basic facts about a handful of popular jazz musicians like Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald. Not much interesting to read or look at. There is a nice introductory video with a little history of jazz, but I left feeling like I still know nothing about the local jazz history of Kansas City! Admission is only $10 for adults. You can buy tickets online or at the gift shop. At least the museum isn't expensive! If you're already going to the baseball museum, you might consider checking out the jazz museum as well. You can still access the museum entrance even with the current construction/closure on 18th street (Aug 2025). There's also an entrance in the back that connects to the parking lot. There's a parking map on the baseball museum website that is super helpful. Both museums are in the same building but require different admission tickets.
