The meat was ok but temperature was not hot. They need to hear the plates to hold the hot temperature. The mashed potatoes was a bit hard so the spinach and corn was better. The frog in the hole was interesting but it wasn't enough beef and I saw a lot of people ordered that. The French onion soup was delicious! The chocolate souffle was good but I wished it was softer, fluffier and taller. Would definitely come back for the soup and souffle.

Supposedly need reservations even for outside seats...it was empty when we went though and was able to get a table. Recommend reservations! My husband and I tend to come here when we want prime rib in that moment so it's hard for us to get the seats we want considering we go out eat based on our cravings in the moment. Prime rib is good. English cut was delicious according to my husband, he loved the textures of the meat. I didn't care for it honestly and thought the cali cut tasted better than the English cut. Parking is valet and they have a huge lot. It was around $10 for valet.

Larry's steakhouse fan here so when I heard of this place, I knew I had to go check it out. Honestly, my experience wasn't a very good one however I loved how cute the resteraunt was and the vibe it had. They offer valet parking service so that was a nice touch. Had reservations and got seated within 10 minutes of checking in. Service was slow all night from beginning to end. There was a point in the night where literally looking for our server so we could get our bill and pay. After 15 minutes of waiting they finally came by our table. The food was good but nothing crazy worth the wait. Considering the prices you are paying here, I expected better. Stay safe folks!

Looking for great prime rib, go to the Tam, Looking for a historical LA spot, go to the Tam. Disney adult exploring local Disney lore, go to the Tam. I've been coming here since I was a kid for over 20 years. The prime rib is always an easy choice but don't be afraid to jump around the menu and try some other offerings. The bar is a great spot for a beer and a quick lunch as well. The Tam has multiple dining rooms and the decor in each is a little different and fun. I always get a soufflé, you should too.

Visited this legendary place last night, and boy is it a gem. We started with the burnt ends as the appetizer, I had the turkey dinner and my date had the prime rib. We split the crème brûlée for desert. Everything was so delicious. It was my first time having creamed spinach, too. So good. Our server, Grayson, was friendly and personable. Callout: Valet parking only in the parking lot.

This place has a lot of Scottish history dating as far back as 1922, when it was first established. Entering the restaurant feels like entering a different realm. The ambiance, the dated columns and flags, the paintings and the lighting feels you've been transported back to Scotland in the early 100s. The food was amazing. The brisket platter, The steak, the cottage pie are to die for. Service was excellent and no problem with parking as everything is valet.

I always drove past this place and heard that they serve Lawrys prime rib. Decided to die in here on a random Saturday afternoon and order the prime rib for lunch. They don't have the spinning salad bowl. They just bring out the food to you so don't expect any presentation. The inside feels like an old pub. It is is very casual and nothing like a fancy prime rib restaurant. The reason why I like this place is because there is no lines or reservation needed. If you are craving the Lawrys prime rib, this is the place to get it. I had to knock down a star because the servers literally didn't seem like they wanted to work. I don't like to wave and get the servers attention, but they never checked up on us for refills. It's not like the restaurant was busy or anything. I just felt awkward because the servers attitudes were really off that day. Plenty of free parking and right across the street from the Costco.

I got to try the souffle!!!!! We randomly came to celebrate a friend and they had it at last! It was delicious! I was expecting it with creme anglais but the whipped cream on the side was definitely homemade and very good.

Dimly lit, intimate old school steakhouse. We came here a few times over the years, good prime rib and a big drink/cocktail menu. English cut is thin and a good choice. Service is friendly but not attentive in the sense that when plates come in they don't clear the old plates. It was weird. We had to move the plates ourselves and they didn't put it down unless we did it, as though it was our fault they were in the way. But anyway, a good place for special occasions like a birthday or graduation or something.

Overall, this place was very nice. Good ambience, generally good food, generally good service, very old school. Portions are fine, other than the mac & cheese (see below) food was good. When we came in, our seat was obnoxiously bright, but when I said something, they managed to turn the light down at our table, which was nice. This is the kind of detail that makes or breaks your dining experience. So points to the staff for figuring this out. Service was pretty much on point. Food was generally good although the mac & cheese, which was my daughter's entrée, was lacking. Oddly dry. Otherwise, no complaints. Love to see these old-school places still in business. Ambience is generally pretty cool. You should try it.

Highly recommend making reservations as this place can get bu. I'm not a fan of prime rib so I appreciate that they had other options. I opted for the filet which is a go to for me if on the menu. My steak was perfectly cooked and I got a side of creamed corn which was also delicious. Our waitress, Veronica, was attentive and helpful. And the overall atmosphere is something of a fairytale. Great dinner and evening out.

Atmosphere definitely an A++ good vibes and a local gathering spot. Plenty of selections for wines, pints, and specialty cocktails. Highly recommend for a group as the food servings are huge! One appetizer easily covers 2 to 3 people. I am sure the entrees are just as large. Originally intended to try the prime rib or brisket platter, but could not do more than a single appetizer and glass of Chianti. Next visit haha! It gets busy in the evening of dinner and outside. Seeing seems to be pop choice. So looking to get a seat outside. May want to call and get reservation or arrive earlier than 6 to 7 P.M. dinner rush. Overall highly recommended for a relaxing no nonsense classic LA experience for a drink and food. Bring an appetite or platoon if you are eating a full meal, generous portions!!

I haven't eaten beef in over a month, and the carnivore in me was craving some red meat. Bestie and I wanted to eat a hearty and satisfying meal before heading out to Filipino Heritage Nightat Dodgers Stadium I'm only a short 10 minutes alway Atwater, so it was conveniently close I haven't been to Tam O Shanter in decades and it still has that nostalgic feel walking in. All the staff were friendly and helpful. Luckily, we were early enough that not too many people were there watching The World Cup. Service was a breeze! Prime rib was calling out my name. I decided upon the Tam O Shanter cut, medium rare. Even though it's Lawry's prime rib, they don't carve table side, but my prime rib was served to perfection! The meat was juicy, tender, and absolutely delicious Again, it wasn't Lawry's, so they don't serve their famous spinning salad but I love the creamed corn. I've never been too fond of Yorkshire pudding as I would much rather have a hearty roll. Unfortunately, because it wasn't dinner time, we couldn't order the chocolate soufflé and that's what bestie and I were looking forward to! Ha! Maybe next time!

Tam O'Shanter Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Tam O'Shanter

Is there a bar bites menu?

There is a bar menu with sandwiches and burgers. Check on their website. Happy dining. 😎

Are you showing the World Cup games?

Yes every game on six screens in our pub daily.

Are dogs currently allowed on the patio?

Yes, dogs are allowed on the patio.

    What is the Dress code?

Casual, not a pretentious place in the slightest...it is loud though in the late afternoon to early evenings...

    Suddenly closed until further notice?

Unfortunately we have had a gas main line leak. With a 103 year old building any critical system failure is a challenge to fix quickly. We anticipate having SoCal Gas out Monday morning to certify our repairs and be open for dinner service Monday…

Can you accommodate someone in our group who needs low sodium? I called and the lady on the phone said only option would be a salad with no dressing, which seemed a little odd and accommodating for this type of restaurant.

Absolutely, most of our proteins on the menu can be done without added salt along with our sandwiches during lunch service. Regards,…

What is the most popular and best selling dish? Never been but want to go this month.

    Prime rib with yorkshire pudding.

Is Yorkshire pudding currently available on menu?

It is, you can also get a basket during Sunday brunch (which comes with preserves, lemon and raspberry I believe). Very light and airy.

Is the soufflé back on the menu as of 2024?

Didn't see it in the menu but then again I wasn't looking for it .sorry

For dinner is there a Long wait?

It'd be best to call in advance and make a reservation to avoid potential long waits.

Can you get the lunch menu on weekends at lunch time or just the brunch ? ?love the turkey sandwich but don't see it on the brunch menu and I want to go on a weekend

Sandwiches are not listed on the Brunch menu but available if you ask for them. Prime Rib, Turkey, corned beef ,and Brisket sandwiches are available anytime/day from 11am - Closing.…

Do they still serve bone marrow? My boyfriend brought me here and we had it, it's his favorite and we haven't been in almost a year and a half and I don't see it on the menu.

I don’t think so. Best to call or view the menus from the Lawry website

Do you need to make lunch reservations for a party of 5 on weekdays?

Yes you do. We went in Wednesday and they were busy at lunchtime.

Will you have a regular brunch menu along with the Easter menu on Sunday?

The menu listed on the website for Easter will be the only menu available 10:30am-2pm. Dinner service starts at 4pm with our regular dinner menu.

    What are the valet prices?

$8.50 per car evenings only. Valet starts at 4pm weekdays & 3pm weekends. On any holiday it’s $8.50 per car all day.

What is your policy now, re: proof of covid-19 injections [vaccines]?

    Not an issue.

Do they have any vegan options?

Not a great place for vegans you could get a a salad hold the cheese and bacon and maybe a couple of sides…

Took a look at the holiday season 2022 menu and noticed are the eggplant steak entre is gone. Will there be other healthier options for guests who cannot partake in scrumptious cuts of meat (not turkey again and not particularly fond of salmon)?

The Eggplant Steak was a Summer/Fall item. The menu changes 5 or so times a year. Currently it’s roasted root vegetables, arugula, with or without goat cheese mousse for the holiday season in its place. An eggplant steak with a different set of…

Do they have yorkshire pudding like in Lawry's? I had it and it seemed not as good and yummy as Lawry's

Yes! Comes with the prime rib plate!

Do you need reservations for a weekday lunch?

    No, walk right in

ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE A dark cavernous speakeasy-like place with open space, various tables and couches strewn about, and a large long somewhat decorative bar with an impressive whiskey selection displayed behind it. I appreciated the exposed brick walls which gave it that old-time feel with a few framed pictures hung on them. OVERALL It was nice to slip into The Famous Bar for the first time in over a decade, and if I found myself spending time in downtown Glendale again, I'd consider another visit. Sadly, I try to avoid the highly congested area as much as possible. I loved the fact that they had a daily happy hour (4pm-7pm) and late-night SU-TH happy hours (10:30pm-close), so there was always a deal to be found. The drinks were the main reason you came, while the food was just an add-on. The prices were elevated, but you had a good menu selection of libations (nice local craft beer list) to choose from. The customer service was easy, friendly, and straightforward. I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $42.00 BEFORE any discounts/tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice... The ambiance has a perfect speakeasy vibe with its dim lighting and relaxed atmosphere, making it an ideal spot to just hang out and grab a quality drink. The cocktail program here is absolutely phenomenal. I am pretty picky when it comes to whiskey, and since Manhattans are my absolute favorite, my expectations were high. They mixed an incredible Manhattan that was perfectly balanced with the right sweet vermouth, and their Old Fashioneds are crafted with an attention to detail that really lets the spirits shine through. We also ordered a few Paper Planes, and they were dangerously good, hitting that perfect sweet and sour note that makes you want to immediately order another round. It is not just the incredible drinks that make this place stand out, but the exceptional service from the bartenders. They are super knowledgeable and treat craft cocktail making like a true art form, all while keeping the vibe laid-back and welcoming. If you are looking for an unmatched whiskey selection and a fantastic atmosphere in Los Angeles, this place is an absolute must-visit. Easy 5 stars for sure.

Having been here many times over the past decade, I've discovered some great bourbons, scotches, and had some great cocktails. But those days are unfortunately in years past. In a place that prides itself in its whisky, the bartenders are sorely lacking in their knowledge around their own bar. With an extensive selection, I don't expect them to know everything, but bartenders not knowing what is meant by a neat pour (straight out of the bottle into the glassware, no ice, and not mixed) was unexpected. I'm getting the impression that while they still mix old fashioneds, a scotch such as Ardbeg is now an unusual and baffling request. I've been here a handful of times in the past few months, and it can be lively or dead, but it's now just any other bar. If you want a fun cocktail you can find anywhere else, this place will do, but unfortunately it's lost what has separated this bar from any of the other bars in dtla.

And over time, this place has always had a fun vibe and reasonably priced drinks. The folks here seem to always be friendly as well. Even after all these years, this place could still get pretty crowded (the space isn't huge so that helps). They also have the Dodgers games on when available so that's great if you want to grab a drink in the area and don't want to miss the game. On my most recent trip, I came here after having dinner with a couple of friends in the area for a after dinner drink/ night cap. Ordered the martini and it was good! Just a great place in the area to meet up with friends to grab a cocktail if you wanna low-key place that has reasonable prices for good cocktails.

He was friendly, welcoming, and gave us a great first impression. However, our experience afterward was disappointing. We waited nearly 20 minutes to be seated and another 20-30 minutes before anyone took our order. I understand that restaurants get busy, and we were trying to be patient because we could see the staff was overwhelmed. When we finally got our beer, I told our server, Noah, that I could pour it myself if that would help. Instead of explaining the situation politely, he responded with attitude and said, "You know I can't serve you guys, right?" I apologized, but then he told us, "Nah, you guys have to leave." This was frustrating after waiting so long just to place an order. We were never rude or disrespectful to the staff, so the interaction felt unprofessional and unnecessary. I completely understand being busy, but customer service should still be respectful. Unfortunately, this experience left a negative impression despite the great welcome we received from Nate.

Going in to Forman's Whiskey Tavern, I had 5 choices from the menu that looked amazing to me: 1. TAVERN SALAD with manchego, apple, candied pecans, and a champagne vinaigrette. 2. GRILLED CHEESE sweetened with butternut squash and a sage brown butter. 3. TAVERN (Impossible) BURGER with avo, arugula, pickled onion, and honey mustard dressing. 4. BISTRO (Impossible) BURGER which is like the French Onion Soup of burgers on a challah bun. 5. PATTY MELT, but I'd let my carnivorous side indulge with beef vs. Impossible meat. Thankfully the menu special that greeted me at the front door reaffirmed my choice that I should choose a burger. The Weekday Special from 12-3pm: Any Burger or Sandwich, Side of Fries or House Salad, and a pop was just $16. Plus, the bartender encouraged me that the burgers are really good. So the TAVERN BURGER with Impossible meat, a side green salad, and a lemonade needed no coin toss for me to be decisive. Ordering my meal at the bar was easy, there was no line, and service was quick. I loved that it was chill for a mid-week lunch hour. However, I imagine it gets busy later on in the afternoon and during a non-holiday week. Most of LA was already heading out to campsites for the 4th of July week from what it seemed. Beyond the burger, I really loved the fun decor. Inside, it felt like a Southern Hunting Lodge with its trophies hanging on the wall. Outdoors, it had my kind of charm with its lush greenery, flowering blooms, rustic decor, and picnic-style benches that felt like you're in someone's backyard. I'm sure the big tree in the center helps make the twinkle lights amazing at night. Plus, if you bring your furry friend (service dog) then the outdoor patio is a nice place to chill, and there's a bowl of fresh water just for them. As for drinks, there are plenty of beer choices on tap from Old Rasputin Stout to IPAs. Malbec and Opolo Zin looked enticing too. Since this is a Whiskey Tavern, there are lots of options ranging from low to high-end spirits to choose from. I recommend you take a peek at their menu beforehand to avoid deliberating for a while before choosing the one that speaks to you.

Specializing in whiskey, they also feature local brews from solid brewers like Paperback Brewing from Glendale. I tried the Bunny With a Chainsaw from Paperback - very smooth and easy drinking despite it being a double hazy IPA. If you're not into hoppy beers, this is the one for you. There were nine of us, so we used the outside patio area. Each table comes with its own QR code and you can have your own tab which makes it easy to order when you're in a large group. Lit up with outdoor patio lights with a cork oak tree in the middle, it's scenic enough with a casual, yet lively atmosphere. I ordered the fish tacos ($11) which came with two tacos, the fish itself was a frozen deep fried fillet, a bit on the tough side, however the rest of the taco fillings were fresh. Also tried the Brussels sprouts with balsamic reduction ($12) - these were done right! Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Would come back to try out their other drinks and food!

It's not surprising given the neighborhood and decor, but I think they lean towards more Japanese spirits and beers. For someone like me who's never been to Japan I feel like there's a traditional Japanese theme going on inside with lots of wood. A few friends and I came here on a holiday before dinner. Happy hour specials were still going on. I'm not sure if they thought they were gonna get that much business on a holiday but I think there's only maybe one or two people behind the bar. Since it was early when we got there, it was still not that crowded. I got the special which was a shot of Japanese whisky and a beer. Great price! Haha. I've walked by before where this place is really crowded so I assume there's a lot more people working behind the bar during the regular busy hours. Just a great place to grab drink drinks.

No exceptions, as I witnessed a family who really wanted to come in but had an 18 yr old so they weren't allowed in and because they had a minor with them they couldn't even sit outside in their seating area. Always good to know. Inside the bar got super busy. The inside was a bit dark but again it is a bar. I like the decor and the bar seating was packed. The drinks were good if you like whiskey they have it along with lists of beer options. Nice spot to try out.
