I've taken my daughter to plenty of big zoos in the US: San Francisco, Oakland, and Oregon, to name a few. But none of those did I willingly want to go back to. Paignton Zoo is different. It's so pretty here, if I lived nearby, I'd want to revisit often. The setting is beautiful. We were lucky enough to get to feed Duchess the elephant and two of the giraffes (Tonda and Yoda) while we were there. Quite an experience for my daughter and one I'm sure she'll remember for quite some time. What memories are made for.

Twycross has a huge amount of monkeys but they are mostly in little cages - at Newquay they've got their monkeys on a little open air island in a pond. There is no cage at all and they are contained by the water. It's this kind of feeling you get all round the zoo where they've obviously thought about the happiness of the animals as well as the paying public. You get very close to the animals, have Chipmunks crossing over your head in tubes. There are also play areas and places to have picnics. When we went I could have my hand stamped and nip back to the car to get my picnic stuff. They also have animal visits where they take smaller animals and reptiles round to schools and holiday parks. A really great place with caring staff.

Most notably, they advertise penguins on their brochure as a main attraction which one of our party was very much looking forward too and only came for the penguins but they all died a while ago. The talks are informative. A good day out for the family still and enough to take up your whole day. Petting zoo is fun for all ages.

We visited this zoo while on holiday at the end of the season, and had such a good day! The only…read moredownside which I'll mention now is the cafe seemed unable to cope with the lunchtime rush, and by 1pm had no sandwiches left and a half hour wait on hot meals! Great value tickets, nice little gift shop on the way out. They have such a wide range of animals for a fairly small space, all with wonderfully large enclosures, and all naturally managed - all the enclosures are as close as possible to their natural habitat, so the animals are happier and in better health. This can mean that they're hard to spot because they can be hiding in plant growth, but when you do see them they're so animated and fun to watch. Informative, educational and amusing talks are given by the keepers on the animals, there are various encounter sessions during the day where you get to hold some of the smaller animals, and reptiles and spiders and so on. The kids had a wonderful time, as did we, though we were surprised at how tired we were when we got back to the car - it's a deceptive space! Though on quite a small plot for a zoo, the paths and enclosures are arranged so that you get the impression you're walking round a much bigger place.

They have some lovely indoor and outdoor play areas for kids including my kids favourite the ball pool. There is also a nice cafe, lots of room for having picnics in nice weather, and the kids get the chance to feel ponies, goats, sheep, rabbits and lots of other animals! However, not much of a Monkey Sanctuary - I think they only have 3 Monkeys there now. Not much of a day out I am afraid. I was told by someone who works there that one of the Monkeys likes to smoke!!!! I would have liked to have seen that lol! This is totally different to other Animal Parks etc which I have visited with my daughter. She was bored within a few minutes and wanted to go home as she could not see any of the monkeys. There is plenty of room and lots of trees for them to hang about in, I was upset not to catch sight of one when we visited this summer holidays! The opening times are from 11.30 - 4.00pm I believe, yet (as this is cornwall) they do not stick to these times. Best call in advance to make sure it is open else it is a long drive back to civilization!!!! I must praise the factual learning information though, extremely informative and very fasinating to read. There's lovely animals and an aquarium, play centres and puppet shows. Its fun and educational and great for teaching kids about conservation. Even if the weather is bad, it wont spoil your day out but if the weather is good, you can take a picnic too!!

I travelled from Bristol there for the day and was very unhappy with the small level Of animals and the poor state the park seemed to be in.
