I was definitely impressed with Tamaya Sushi and its offerings. My friend and I met up for a lunch date and been seeing amazing things about this business. This place is very modern and clean and you are welcome by an Asian cat statue, Maneki-neko. It was giving good vibes for sure. They offer two menus - one being their lunch AYCE for 18.99 between 11am - 3pm and their regular menu that offers an array of dishes and have a lunch menu for rolls. I went with the lunch roll special which was 2 rolls and a miso soup for $11.99. I was pleasantly surprised with how affordable Tamaya is. My 2 rolls were the cucumber roll and a yellowtail roll. Both were fresh and light and filling. I enjoyed that these rolls had the rice on the inside instead of the traditional way and were a lot smaller. You don't feel overstuffed after eating these. The miso soup was light and not salty like most places in town. I could've had at least 2 cups of this. I also liked that tofu pieces were cut up very small. Service and ambience were great here. I will be back for their AYCE lunch deal or even dinner with my family.

I just tried this spot for their $25 all-you-can-eat sushi and had a mixed but overall decent experience. First round: I ordered the salmon roll, spicy yellowtail roll, and shrimp tempura roll. The salmon and shrimp tempura rolls were good, with a pretty generous size. The spicy yellowtail was just okay with only a hint of spice. They came out pretty quickly. Second round: I went for eel and tuna nigiris, sweet potato roll, and a tuna hand roll. The eel tasted good, though the slice was pretty thin. The tuna was just okay; the smell and texture felt a little off, and it didn't taste especially fresh. The sweet potato roll was tempura-fried with a nice crunch, and since it was my first time trying it, I was pleasantly surprised. The tuna hand roll took a long time to arrive like almost right before the check. I didn't like the diced tuna texture but the crunchy hits mixed in was okay. I had been expecting sliced tuna like some places do. I didn't finish it and was charged $1.50 for waste, which I didn't mind. Service was mostly quick, with the first round arriving all together, though the second round came out slower and in separate times. I almost thought they forgot about my hand roll. The restaurant has a nice interior, and I loved all the maneki neko cat figurines throughout. Our server was great at explaining the menu and how the AYCE worked. I also liked that not everyone at the table has to do AYCE if one person doesn't want to. Overall, for $25, the price was fair for the amount and variety, even if a few items weren't my favorite.

I was craving sushi and found out this new place . I saw the 4.9 stars and had to come check it out. I ordered for pickup for lunch and tried their 2-roll lunch special for just $11.99, which is such a great deal. I went with the Shrimp Tempura Roll and the Dynamite Roll (salmon, krab, asparagus, deep-fried with eel sauce, hot sauce, and mayo), and both were incredible. The shrimp were super fresh, and the salmon in the dynamite roll was especially tender, melt-in-your-mouth good. I also ordered the krab wontons on the side, and they were hot, golden, crispy perfection with a delicious creamy filling. I practically burned the roof of my mouth because of how good they were. Everything came out quickly and was beautifully presented. I will be coming back!

Overall: Great ambiance. Kind staff. All you can eat at a great price. I highly recommend coming here. Ambiance: Parking is right out front but beware of potholes. The inside is cutely decorated. It doesn't even look like Sweet Buns (the bakery that was in this location before). Service: Great! Very kind! And quick! Food: AMAZING! Totally worth the price. My friend and I didn't like the sushi with the soft shell crab...it tasted very grainy. And the hibachi dishes were just okay. I don't recommend those, but everything else from the apps to the soups to the sushi was great!

Tamaya Sushi is incredible - they have an 'all you can eat' lunch menu that is very complete and at a fair price ($19 as of the time of this post). It includes a wide array of appetizers, sushi rolls, hand rolls, nigri, and even Hibachi options. The quality of the sushi was very good - the nigiri was fresh, and there's a wide selection of all types of sushi roles ranging from California, Eel Roll, to even more specialty rolls such as Dragon rolls being included on the lunch AYCE menu. I've been here 4 times in the past 2 weeks. Overall, the quality is very good. The service is incredible - they get food out to you very quickly after you place an order. I was honestly very impressed with how quickly they were able to get orders out even during a very busy rush hour. The music, and overall ambiance for the restaurant is great. All in all, I'd definitely recommend Tamaya. This has become a new favorite restaurant. I could eat here daily - but I'm trying to make it more of an occasional treat, or go once a week.

The food was delicious, perfect portions for an all you can eat as well. Good prices, amazing service and helpful staff. Overall ambiance and decor is very nice japanese style. The place was clean and inviting!

2 VERY SMALL portions of steak and salmon

Came in with a group of 2 people. When we first walked in no one greeted us. People were scanning a bar code to be added to the waitlist so we followed. Took us 1 hr to get seated. Finally when they called our name before we even got seated. I believe it was the owner, he just pointed where we should sit from across the room. It was hard and confusing why he would navigate us instead of just walking us to our seat. Anyways he also assumed we all wanted waters. The whole experience was just anxiety. No one came to our table to really serve us. First time for everything I guess. Food was a little mediocre.

For $25 bucks for AYCE sushi, I don't think you can find a better deal and value for the money in Gainesville. Good service too.

My husband and I shared the dumplings and both loved them. The texture was perfect and the flavor was really good. The portions overall felt like a great size and everything tasted freshly made. I ordered the pork fried rice and really enjoyed dipping it into the house made dumpling sauce, which honestly made the meal even better. Our waitress was very pleasant, and made sure we had what we needed. The vibe inside was very quiet, cozy, and romantic, making it a really nice spot for a relaxed date night. The restaurant was also extremely clean, which we always appreciate, and there was plenty of easy parking. We'll definitely be back once they add the ramen noodles to the menu!

That said, the vegetable fried rice and dumplings were both a 5 out of 5. The dumpling dipping sauce was honestly one of the best I have ever had and really stood out. The staff was very nice and pleasant. The space is on the smaller side, which was fine since we went during a slower time. We were not able to choose our table, which would have been nice, and while you are not right on top of other people, the tables are close enough that it can be hard to have a private conversation. There were a couple things that held it back. I was served a drink that was close to eight months expired. I did not make a big deal about it and still drank it, but that is something they definitely need to stay on top of. Also, the menu said Pepsi products but only Coke was available. With better inventory checks and a more updated menu, this place could easily be a five star spot. It is just not quite there yet.

The boa buns were soft, the pork was cooked perfectly, and the hoisin sauce at the bottom of the bun was amazing. There were vegetables on top, including cucumbers that tasted sweet and carrots. The vegetables were fresh and tasted great with everything else. We also ordered the crab Rangoon which I personally really liked. I don't like fish, and this crab Rangoon must have had a large amount of cream cheese base. I personally really enjoyed it since the crab wasn't very prominent. The filling was creamy, the Rangoon was crunchy, and the sweet and spicy sauce it came with made a perfect combo. For our meal, we ordered the chicken pad Thai. Unfortunately, it didn't really meet our expectations. The pad Thai was sitting on top of a sauce at the bottom, which tasted like a hoisin sauce base. The taste was very minimal, which was disappointing. The noodles were soft, almost like they were overcooked. The chicken was cooked well and lightly seasoned (which worked perfectly for the pad Thai). The vegetables on top of the pad Thai were also very fresh and you could tell they were freshly cut. The lack of peanut/pad thai taste was the most disappointing part that unfortunately lost it for us. The service was good. When we walked in, we were immediately greeted and were able to select our own table. The inside is decently small, with around 8 tables.

Oh my god, I took a single bite and didn't speak to my friend for 15 minutes as I continued munching it down. It was amazing. The vermicelli comes underneath this mound of pork holy grail, and while I'm used to having my vermicelli with these bowls cold and a bit thinner, and there being significantly more noodles than meat ratio, I'm thrilled to say that not this bowl - this bowl was 60% pork, 30% noodle, and 10% veggie. I'm taking every bite with 2-3 pieces of pork. I'm soaking up the juices with the noodles. I'm crunching on a few cucumbers to balance it out. I'm savoring every piece. Absolutely wonderful. I'm so excited to go back and try every one of their dishes. The restaurant itself is small, located inside of a shared mini-food court place with a pasta-to-go restaurant and a boba tea shop, and has a really cute sitting area. Also, bless their heart for being a family owned restaurant, but the cleanliness and service here needs more help. Based on the reviews, we thought it was going to be a nice meal. Walking in my father-in-law said are you sure we should eat here. I said the reviews are great. I'm sure it will be fine. Let's just take everything in with a grain of salt. My father-in-law ordered pad Thai, which he typically loves. However, it was not very good at all. Actually, he said it was the worst pad Thai he had ever had. My daughter ordered the pineapple fried rice. She said it was not very flavorful and quite greasy. I had the green curry, which was decent, I did like the fact that it had less coconut milk than other establishments that I've sent you before. It is one of my favorites so I feel like it's something that I can't speak upon. I did have a good amount of vegetables and I love the fact that they use lotus roots. And eggplant. However, it wasn't the best, but it wasn't the worst so I feel like that one was a good effort. Onto cleanliness. I really feel like they have a lot of room for improvement here. Even if most of your business businesses carry out, which I imagine it is, you still need to have a knee and clean environment for people to feel comfortable. And I believe that that's where my father-in-law's trepidation came to play. I can't say it was overly dirty, but you can tell that it was worn out. And I saw a lot of carryout business happening. That means that you still have a pretty decent cash flow coming in. My suggestion, as a restaurant consultant, is to use your days off to do a gut of all things unnecessary, do a deep clean and or replace things that obviously need replacing. And there's quite a bit that needs replacing. I'm talking tables, chairs, Flooring, paint the walls, etc. Also dollar store cutlery honestly is never OK when you're charging the prices that you are.
