The Meadow is the best green juice ever, cold pressed to make sure all those amazing nutrients are kept inside the juice, but not too bitter as it's balanced out by lemon and apple. Their focus seems to be on natural health, so the foods usually contain interesting grains, seeds, pulses, and fresh fillings. They make a huge cabinet of delicious ricepaper rolls, filled with all sorts of goodies, like beetroot, carrot, orange, corn, chicken, sprouts (all in one roll), and they only cost $3!!! They also have giant omellete rolls filled with chicken fried rice for $6. So much better value that sushi. But I hope that they don't go out of business for charging so little. You can also get a massive range of fresh juices, including wheatgrass shots.

I love getting a little of all of the salads on offer, the black rice, kale salad, and broccoli salad are so tasty. Also their juices and smoothies are delicious!

FRESH GINGER?…read more no? maybe that's just me? anyhow, new zealand's a fine place to be a ginger-lover (i've already sampled three different varieties of micro-brewed ginger beer and, have since become an addict). tangent aside, this juice bar hits the spot. not only is it directly across from my office, they also have reasonable prices, you don't have to wait in an obnoxious 15 minute line (*cough* tank *cough*) and they use hurom slow juicers which are designed to squeeze every last nutrient out of that fruit, veggie, nourishment of choice. today i opted for a beet, apple, fresh ginger (DUH) concoction which had the perfect amount of zing to get me through tuesday afternoon. a small 3-4 veggie/fruit juice (served in a generous 16oz cup) will set you back $5.90 - which i think is pretty fair given competitor prices and the quality of the juice. plus the service is so darn friendly, you just have to return the smiles. i do wish they provided straws, though. something just feels weird about sipping a freshly squeezed juice coffee-style.

The good news: Kokako remains the bean of choice, the fresh juices are reasonably priced and they still make a mean anzac cookie (plus they've upped the food options, offering more options for pre-made sandwiches and salads). BUT...no more homemade muesli (!!!!!) MANY.TEARS. So yes, Nadu still serves up some great coffee and the atmosphere of the café is unchanged but don't curse that yelp reviewer when you can't get your muesli fix, you've been warned ;)

I've walked…read morearound the shops on Nuffield St a dozen times but it's right down the end where there's no shops, towards those car dealerships. The cafe itself is pretty tiny but what it lacks in size it makes up for in personally. There is a deconstructed bike on the wall, the worn concrete floor is painted in oversized black and white tiles and there is indoor vines growing up the wall. The duo working behind the counter were lovely and made my juice and coffee lickety split. I had an hour to kill before my apt so I perched at there high bar, caught up on the days news and watched the constant stream of people coming to get their morning fix. All in all, it was a great start to the day!

This then also extends on to the customers, they go out of their way to help people; AND to their competitors as well. Organic stores in Auckland have a rich interlinked history I recently discovered, including that this store is also owned by the guys in Grey Lynn, Harvest Whole foods. I admit that I am not around this area enough to call it my local, but I know several people that do. It has a great reputation and for good reason (even if not the 'cheapest' of organic stores). One of the particular draw cards about Huckleberries is that they sell meat, (as opposed to Harvest). This is great for those of us that are still carnivores but like to know about the sources of our animal consumption. And I can buy pork free snags here - yay! Recently I have been on the hunt for some ethical-eco black eyeliner, I noticed on their website that they stock some, which is great as I was almost ready to give up hope for anything local. The black pencil variety cost $31.00, and I will be making a trip there very soon for that indeed! All the ingredients that were on the blackboard were in it , as in I could taste the parsley , kale , banana and pear . They also have a good cabinet food display no scones or muffins here tho , just good eats !
