I came across Tanners by accident whilst searching for a particular Grand Cru Champagne. They were competitively priced. I've place a number of orders with them notably for the ampagne, Bas armagnac, and port. I have bought wine too. Yes, I agree they are very knowledgable. However, I was recently looking for a particular Rioja, their prices was about £26 per botle, but Waitrose had exactly the bottle for £18. No0 contest. So I'd use Tanners for something not available elsewhere, but I would also do a general search. Only one thing let them down once, when they substitued a wine with a different year without consulting me first. Their reasoning was that they were out of stock of the one I had ordered. However, they subsequently said they had some in the bonded warehouse. The exchange and delivery took be perilously close to the dinner party, for which it was needed. They were apologetic, and tried to resolve matters immediately. It is important to contact the customer; it is not as though I was ordering from Tesco! Neverthess, I will still use them, but I will ensure that I caveat any order with "No substitutes". There recent red Burgundies for 2008 are quite exgtensive. read more

Very atmospheric, very knowledgeable, wide range and some rare finds. Yes, some of the products are expensive but generally they represent good value. You get what you pay for. read more

If you can't travel all the way to Hamburg to Wein and Boule to get drunk for free, and are after the ULTIMATE in massive choice, in a very lovely interior, then you can't go wrong with Tanners. The place is an treasure trove of wine, with vast choice from all over the world, and each of the French regions covered in detail. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly, so you'll definitely come out with some gems. Highly recommended on any trip to Shrewsbury. read more

Tanners Wine Merchants is the must visit shop in Shrewsbury, what the staff at Tanners do not know about wine is not worth knowing. The premises is located at the bottom of Wyle Cop, and Tanners as well as offices, has a large window display, this gets changed regulary and the work that goes into this display is unbelievable, even if you visit just to see the display, you will not regret it. Around the back of the building, under the passgaeway, Tanners have a shop open to the public, a small bit of heaven for wine and whisky lovers. Tanners produce many many brands and types of drink, and I can personally recommend Tanners own brand, blended Whisky, is it of the finest quality, but without the finest price tag. read more
