Never been in a motorhome/campervan before. This was my first experience and it was pretty darn great. Unfortunately it is not I that owns the said motorhome but 2 friends of mine but they invited me along to spend the weekend 'Glamping' in North Berwick.
I haven't been anywhere near a campsite since I was about 9 years old and we went camping in Derbyshire with the school...I still remember waking up in the night needing the loo, eventually finding my way there & back in near darkness thinking I'd done good & then upon jumping into what I thought was my sleeping bag found another girl in it! Argh! Of course I had got the wrong sleeping bag...Oops. Along with that and cows licking me awake & warm (i.e. VERY fresh!) milk with our Cornflakes it was enough to put me off camping for a looooong time...so between that & having watched Friday The 13th WAY too many times I didn't know quite what to expect staying on a campsite again.
Tantallon Caravan Park is a large park with static caravans, spaces for motorhomes, touring caravans, tents & they even have Wigwams you can hire! Yas. Prices are pretty reasonable (Our pitch for 2 nights {with electricity hook-up} was about £45) and the view here is brilliant. You're quite high on a hill so you get a beautiful view of the North Berwick beach & coastline. You get great views of Bass Rock and North Berwick Law too. Waking up & seeing that view & breathing the fresh air really does make you feel alive. The park has plenty of toilet blocks and also a larger shower/washing up block. The toilets were always clean, well lit & well stocked. The shower cubicles are a great idea ~ a shower, toilet & hand basin all in one private, lockable unit. A hairdryer is available also.
We spotted a play park which looked fun & also an inside games area, but we never ventured in ourselves so I can't comment on it.
The park is a nice 15min walk from the centre/town of North Berwick and you go via the golf course so try not to get hit by flying golf balls! You're then soon on the beach & we walked along the lovely beach into the centre of town, enjoying the views & sea air on the way. On the way back after dark I have to say it is pretty damn DARK. Not many streetlights or any lights at all near the beach/golf course so thanks to our trusty mobile phone flashlight apps we manged to navigate our way back safely, but this lack of light pollution also equals a stunning night sky for all you astronomists out there.
I thoroughly recommend staying here if ever you plan a wee stay in North Berwick or the surrounding areas (we also went to Dunbar). Gorgeous views & great facilities.
It's also handy to know there is a Co-op & Tesco about 10/15mins walk from the park so very handy for any food, drink or other such items you should require for your stay. read more
