In the process of getting lost looking for nearby Liquorama I stumbled across Tanya's and decided to grab lunch after visiting the intended target. I was the only customer that Saturday afternoon, but the proprietor was really friendly and took my order quickly. It was easy to decide, really; if I don't try Shawerma, then I'll get a kabob plate. Beef Kabob Plate it was, reasonably priced under $15 and includes salad, hummus, flat bread, rice (pilaf), and a skewer of marinated beef. It came out of the kitchen cooked to order, and everything looked great! I love how they shredded the lettuce of the salad, and the dressing looked and smelled great too. Lebanese prepared, the beef had a subtle marinade, not overly salty like many other places, and a carmalized texture from the grill. The rice pilaf is also a great side, and I enjoyed their hummus too. The good news is that after game nights down the street I can come here instead of fast food because they're open until 11pm Saturday night. I think my next visit will explore a combination Shawerma or kabob plate. read more

Great food at affordable prices. Came here for dinner to go with a friend. Ordered the combo grill, fried kibbeh and sambosik. There was only one employee in the restaurant who seems to be the owner/manager/cook. He was very friendly and took our order and disappeared off into the kitchen to start cooking. 15 minutes later he reappeared with a package of food that smelled wonderful. The kafta kebab was seasoned very well and tender, the beef was alright, the chicken was still juicy and flavorful. I enjoyed both appetizers. The sambosik are like eggrolls and the kibbeh is like a falafel but with meat inside. Would love to try the other items on the menu next time. The 1st clue was a letter grade of B in the front window. No big deal really so we ventured inside and were somewhat greeted but a disheveled looking gentleman who directed us to a table. He then threw the menus on the table and walked away. At that point I was ready to leave and wished we had. We ordered our food and it arrived fairly quickly. He also brought us a basket with some old flat and cold pita bread with utensils on top. The food was not as bad as I thought it would be, not horrible but could have been better. The beef and chicken was tough and probably not very fresh. Overall, the place looked unclean and not very well maintained. After we got home I looked up the reason they received B. Just as I had surmised, Vermin. They were actually shut down by the health Dept mid November until they got the Vermin problem under control. It was the middle of the week and Wednesday calls for a mini venture out to follow Hubz around his work sites, which led me to exploring Uplands, CA. I was having some major cravings for Mediterranean food and found Tanya's on google! The area is not the most modern or bustling area ever, when we arrived for lunch it was around 12pm and the restaurant was empty. During our visit there were a couple of patrons in and out, also a few making takeout orders. I'm assuming the lady who took my order is Tanya, and I'm assuming she was also by herself as she was the only one coming in and out to verify orders and cash people out. Wait time for our food took about half an hour so this is not the choice for something quick unless you plan and try to call ahead! Fried Kibbeh - ($5.50) - Freshly fried and piping hot, her flavors and the crust were perfect. The side of hummus and a gallop of garlic sauce was delicious! Chicken Shawarma - ($8.99) - Chicken was a tad dry, rice was insanely mushy, salad was barely there but the hummus tasted great. This was kind of a sad plate. The portion was pretty generous but the quality just wasn't there. Overall, the kibbeh was good, the plate was sad and when the rice is mushy it just doesn't make a good meal for anyone. We were going to order online but did a phone order because it cost $4 to order through their website. Overall, we spent about $103 on the food all together. With this price, we expected a bigger portion but the portions weren't really worth it. I had ordered a chicken kabob sandwich but it was so much smaller than expected. The taste was underwhelming and I had to add a lot of seasoning and other sauces to make up for the lack of flavor. I added another pita bread because the original one was thin and tearing. Their food is really good and especially for the price! I had their chicken salad and lentil soup and I can say that it was really good! Probably one of the best lentil soups I've ever had it was a little to hot but I ordered to go so they probably heated it up more for the drive home! Menus have a foggy film on them, dirty plates with old crusty food was sitting on dining tables, the restroom was dirty and neglected. The place now has a dingy, depressed feel to it. The biggest disappointment was the food. Stale cold pitas for my wraps, lukewarm meats and rice indicating reheated in a microwave, and worst part is the garlic sauce was abnormally tangy and tasted like it was sitting out for days. On the pictures the food items are the beef kabob and the hummus with beef shawarma. Let me tell you this is the toughest beef kabob and toughest beef shawarma. It was un-eatable it taste old and omg it was like bitting into a piece of rubber. I ended up not eating it. Ugh it ruined my dinner I thought the shawarma had to be thin sliced ??? This restaurant got it all wrong, the salad was old and saggy eewwww!!! What a waste of 30.00 something dollars!! Not going back for sure !!!
