The service is terrible every time I come here. Servers are rude and slow and hardly check in or even make eye contact to get their attention. Also food is so-so especially for the price. A storm knocked our power out so we went to Open Table and found Taphouse 23. The reviews looked decent so we figured we would give it a try. We would not recommend it and will not return. Here's why: The hostess stand needs a lot of work. No one ever seems to be standing there....except for unattended customers. Everyone seems confused. Patrons are often standing around wondering where the hostesses are and what the protocol is. There was a 3-top in line ahead of us and they were told there would be a 40 minute wait because they just got slammed with large parties and needed some time because they were just sitting tables whose reservations were actually supposed to be seated a while ago. (This is not your guests' problem and you shouldn't be sharing it with them). So the table agreed to wait for a little bit. We were seated and already ordered and we saw them leaving because they were never seated. I don't understand the reason for this. It really wasn't that busy. Only a handful of tables even came in to be seated after us. That was lost business. I asked for a straw for my ice water. She brought me an unwrapped straw with her bare hands. Oh my. I prefer my straws without extra germs so I'm good. Thanks anyway. When we looked at the menu online to see if we would like anything we saw that they had a crab cake sandwich. I noticed when we actually showed up that there were NO sandwiches available with the exception of burgers. They have an extremely limited menu. I asked about the crab cake sandwich that I saw on the online dinner menu. She told me that it's only on the lunch menu and normally they would make it for me anyway but it was so busy so she didn't think they could. She looked literally scared to ask the manager. My fiancé told her we would ask her and to send her over. She said she would go ask. She returned and told us she would ask the other manager. She returned again and said they would make it for me but they would have to charge us the $24 crab cake entree price. What?!?! Talk about taking total advantage of your customers. You make burgers. You have a crab cake entree. How hard is it to make a burger with a crab cake patty instead of a beef patty?!?! Especially since it is on your online dinner menu AND your actual menu says "if you don't see what you're looking for on the menu, please ask your server." But you are trying to rip me off instead. Disappointing. I got fish tacos instead. I went to the bathroom to wash my hands. There was no soap on my side. The woman to my left told me I could use the soap on her side. Then she told me if I needed to use the restroom to make sure to use the one stall versus the other because that one didn't have toilet paper. I thanked her and went to dry my hands but there were no paper towels. We are batting a thousand here. I asked for a wedge salad without bacon as an appetizer. It arrived (much, much later than it should have) with bacon and had to be sent back. My fiancé had his salad but no utensils. When the manager brought the wedge back without bacon he realized we didn't have utensils and seemed annoyed by that fact. He brought us utensils and napkins and got my fiancé another beer to make up for it. We appreciated that. Someone else brought our entrees while we were still eating our salads...this is such a pet peeve of mine. My fish tacos had fries which was odd. They were ok. Nothing I would recommend or ever desire to eat again. Definitely a far cry from the best fish tacos I've ever had. My fiancé had a burger. It's harder to disappoint him. He made a face and said it was horrible; dry, overcooked and flavorless. Neither of us finished our fries because they weren't very good. They tasted kind of freezer burned. Our server stopped by at one point and asked if everything was ok and that was it. If we needed anything beyond that one opportunity, we weren't getting it, I can assure you of that. We sat there with dirty plates and unfilled water glasses for the duration of our meal Our appetizer plates sat on our table until our entire meal was over and then a bus person came out and took everything away. Our bill was $54 for two salads, fish tacos, a burger and one beer. How?! Why? It was mediocre food at best and mediocre service. There were lots of tvs around. There was live music. There are two floors. It has potential but they are really blowing it. We were seated near the door so I was freezing the majority of the time. When we are here because there's no power at our house, I'm not trying to freeze by the door and be ripped off for a crab cake sandwich. The patio alone was worth the visit. We came here on a Friday night around 6 pm and were promptly seated at a table in the patio. The patio is large with plenty of seating, a bar, tvs, live music, lounge seating and a water feature. The patio is outside facing 4th street and it is elevated so you do not get the road noise. We had the calamari and a couple of flatbreads. All the food was good and came out quickly. They had a good selection of craft beers on tap and a good selection of bottles. We opted for bottles of flying fish. The entire place seems to have bee remodeled. The inside of the restaurant looks new with a beer theme. They have some unique beer bottle lights above the sink in the bathroom. Will visit again. read more

The food was fantastic! The service was awful. We sat upstairs and waited over ten minutes for someone to greet us. Between my boyfriend and I we ordered four drinks, mine were made downstairs and took a while. I had two of the BlackBerry Bourbons. The first one was delicious, the second one was made very disappointing. The second drink was brought up, delivered to another table and then brought to my table. GROSS! I had it remade, immediately!! Which the same said drink took till after I got my bill and paid, to be delivered and to disappoint. I've been in food service for over seventeen years, I can understand if it was super busy. But at the time of my reservation it was not. The server needs to learn better time management, and be more attentive to guests. She didn't check on us after our food was delivered, to see if everything came out okay. Service was a bit better this time around, but still pretty poor. Unfortunately the bartender was all alone with a full bar to serve and a restaurant to pour drinks for as well. She did try hard. It seems that the issue was more poor planning by management on the staffing level than than the staff themselves. 5 of the beers were gone, and had not been replaced. So, there were only 18. The hamburger was delicious, though did not come with mustard as ordered. I did see the bartender put it into the POS, so I have to assume that this was a kitchen error. Normally this would not have been something to mention here, but the fact that it took more than 5 minutes to even get the attention of the bartender to ask for it while my burger cooled was frustrating. Overall, the food remained the high point, while service improved from terrible to poor. Nonetheless, I am quite sure that I will return for at least one more try. This is a great sports bar in Bridgeport. It has lots of TVs and they have Sunday Ticket so it's my new spot for watching football on Sundays. There is also a great outdoor space (also with a decent amount of TVs) that can be heated and is open year round. They will put on any game you request. There is a good variety of food on the menu which I will call elevated American/bar style. Everyone we were with was happy with their selections. They also have a very nice draft/drink selection. While we were there we found out a few months ago there was a switch up at management and he seems to have made some great moves. read more

Came here around 7pm on a Friday night. The bar was definitely crowded but the few tables near hostess were fairly empty. We were seated right away but it took our server 15 minutes to even acknowledge our table. The menu seemed pretty good from reading the descriptions but my burger with "sharp cooper cheese" and "thick smoked cut bacon" was basically a bacon junior cheeseburger that you can get at Wendy's.... Wendy's would have been better. I chose the parm tater tots.... because tots. They were literally just tots with the parm that comes from the green container on top. We passed this restaurant in the afternoon. It looked really cool with the wide open windows. I pulled it up on Open Table and was able to make reservations for dinner tonight to celebrate my birthday with my family of four. There's a large parking lot across the street as well as an overflow lot down the block. The building is large, too, so they must draw large crowds. I had reserved a table inside because I wasn't sure how chilly it would be. We asked outside if there was any availability and were told the patio was booked. We continued inside and were told by one of the waitresses to take any table we wanted. We wanted to sit along the booth wall. There was a dirty table of 4, a two top, a four top, and one more occupied four top. We didn't want to sit on top of the other diners so we tried to move a table to create a four top with the existing two top. This made sense to us but an angry waitress approached us with a surly "Can I help you?" When we tried to explain our logic, she started telling us about the large parties on the patio and how they needed to keep every table available. This really made NO SENSE to me. We had reservations and were told we could sit wherever we wanted. This was not an ideal way to start our first dinner at Taphouse 23. They were pretty good about taking our order and getting the food out. We had 2 orders of wings, sliders, crab dip, fat slab of bacon, and meatballs. I had a Diet Coke and everyone else had water. Everything was from the appetizer section except the sliders which were under handhelds. The food delivery was the last time we saw anyone. After waiting about 10 minutes, I finally got up to request our check at the podium. I think the man who brought it was the manager but he never asked if there was a problem or if everything was ok. We had a reservation and got seated right away, the service was more than excellent, Jen was our server and she took a perfect care of us even tho the place was PACKED and we were a bit difficult since some of us came late. the general manager came and greeted us as well and he was super nice. I went to a holiday party last year at Taphouse 23 last year and it was a fun casual sports bar restaurant with decent appetizers. Decided to return the other day with my husband and son and boy, was it disappointing. The atmosphere is lively... it's a hangout place. Watch a game on one of the big TV, sit in their patio section, order some bar food... So the prices should reflect the style of restaurant and quality of food. But it is simply overpriced. The food does not justify their pricing. At all. The Brussels sprouts with blue cheese and bacon appetizer is $13. Not only was it overly drowned in blue cheese, it's not even a shareable size for that price. It should cost $6 or $7. This is a sports bar in Bridgeport, PA not Capital Grille in center city. I ordered a medium rare ribeye and got a medium well piece of meat that was fine but nothing special. And it cost $33. Sure, I knew how much it cost and didn't have to order it, but I was hoping that I'd be pleasantly surprised and it'd be an amazing entree. And I was hungry. My husband ordered the Route 23 burger ($13) that was nothing special. And, my son ordered the kids' chicken fingers and fries and he loved the fries. So there's that. Simply put, there is no sports bar with such a casual vibe (waiters wearing tshirts and jeans) in that area that should charge $10 for a house salad (lettuce, tomato and onion) or $33 for a ribeye. And if they do, it should be the best ribeye in the region. It wasn't by a long shot. Their website says they serve "gourmet food at everyday prices." That is simply untrue. It's not gourmet food at all. It's average pub food. And it's upscale prices. It's a shame because I love the patio seating and it's so convenient to the new Reach climbing gym down the street. Their drink menu is bigger than their food menu; however, no complaints whatsoever on the food. This is one of the best tap bars around with a very large selection and variety on tap. Their IPA's range from 5% to 18%. That's right... 18%. They have a nice happy hour serving $4 well drinks. I don't know if there is new ownership or what's going on here but this place has really gone down hill. They close the kitchen randomly some nights, so you never know if you'll be able to eat when you come in. The TVs seem to always be on strange things like the home shopping network, the music is in either inappropriate with cursing or something that would be played on the Disney channel. There's young kids at the front just watching YouTube on their phones, and I even saw one of those TEENAGERS walk behind the bar. Whoever the new manager is just stands by where they make the pizzas staring at everyone in a very creepy way, he also is dressed like a slob. It seems like they lost a lot of staff members. We really used to love coming here but the atmosphere is just strange now. After hearing numerous reviews & reading several favorable ones about 23 Taproom my wife, father in law, & I decided to give dinner a go. Before venturing in w/ the whole crew on a Sunday night my starving wife dispatched me to expeditiously inquire if the establishment could accommodate two small children & three adults. I posed that question to the lone hostess & she said that "the tap room could accommodate just about anyone." With that being said I popped into the bathroom & noticed that there was no changing table & there also was no toilet paper. Since those minor issues aren't usually deal breakers & was now in a real hurry went ahead & rallied the family for dinner. Parking was a breeze however we were not seated right away even w/ the advanced notice. After we were seated the high chair for the baby did not arrive till several minutes later. Eventually our server did make it over to take the drink orders. The nonalcoholic drinks were served very quickly but no trace of beer. Ten endless minutes later our server returned to tell us about the nights specials & take our appetizer order. At that time we were told by the ever vigilant hostess that our child carrier should be stowed in the back since it was going to be in the way of a six top that was about to be seated behind us. That initial ordering phase went smoothly & the reason why beers had not yet been delivered was also addressed. Reason being, "the bar printer is down." Ten minutes or so later the appetizers were brought out & everything we ordered was delicious. Only problem was that the taproom had not yet provided anything from the tap in over 20 minutes. After the baby had eaten some really good Mac & Cheese she fell asleep in the high chair so I asked the hostess to bring our car carrier back so the baby could sleep comfortably. The carrier was quickly returned & we took the sleeping baby out of the high chair, flipped the high chair over, placed & secured the baby in the carrier & put it back in the high chair. Then I pulled the high chair up to the table & braced it w/ my foot to secure it. At this point the first beer finally arrived & I promptly ordered a second w/ the hopes it would be served before we left. A minute or two after this a server from another section came over & told us that " you cannot have the high chair flipped over w/ the baby in it like that." My wife & I both questioned her as to what she was talking about & her response was a quick about face & disappeared into the kitchen. Then the hostess came over & in a very outspoken & confrontational manner said that the manager had said that "you cannot have the high chair flipped over w/ the baby in it like that." My response to that ridiculous statement was that she needed to get the manager so that we could be offered clarification about the situation & then to please bring the check. I didn't want to leave because the food had been so good but at that point was so upset by these two unwarranted & idiotic intrusions & that getting a beer was just about an impossibility it was time to go. The check arrived well before Patrick the manager did & after a brief discussion as to what the problem was he said that he had never said that about the high chair & that is exactly what the highchair was there for & that we shouldn't leave. I told him the dining experience had been ruined & we were going to pay the bill & be on our way out. Patrick graciously said we did not have to pay a cent & that we should come back & he would personally accommodate us. Bridgeport bar with bar food. it's what you'd expect. place is new and casual and interior is nice. they have outdoor seating which is a plus. beer list was OK. they had the classics with a couple different things mixed in but not enough options for my taste. for apps we got: -tuna wontons- I don't know what possessed me to order tuna at a place like this... do not get these. -cheesesteak egg rolls- good. but if someone messed up a fried cheesesteak I'd be concerned. -soft pretzels- these were probably the best of the three. the dipping sauces were great (cheese and mustard). for dinner I had the farmer burger and subbed the swiss for gruyere. it was good but really large. too big to eat with the bun. my boyfriend had the turkey burger which he enjoyed but he eats everything. the other people in my party also enjoyed their food (more burgers and a Rueben). overall, good place for casual dining and a beer however I would not consider it 'exquisite' like they do on their website... read more

Did you ever find yourself hungry in bed at midnight? I was there too. My boyfriend who is pretty adventurous took me to this bar. We got there at 1am on a Friday night. The place was empty. We asked if we can still come and they said yes. For the late night food, they have a special menu which is much smaller. It consists about 6 dishes that includes: burger,wings,meatballs, among other things. We got all of them. Let me tell you when its that late at night, I was not sure what to expect. Everything was fresh and very delicious. We also got beer and Long Island Iced Tea. The cocktail was a bit weak. However, the service was top notch. TL;DR - The service was terrible and the food was mediocre at best. Let me give full disclosure that this was the grand opening weekend on a Friday night and that I was with a large party. With that said and how the service (if you can call it that) ended up, this was a terrible first impression and the owners should have staffed accordingly for a high volume of people. My party made reservations because we were gathering for a special occasion. My girlfriend and I were the first ones to arrive, about five minutes before the reservation time so we just put our name in. It was getting to be half an hour wait at this point, which was fine--it was busy. About half of our party had arrived. One of us asked the hostesses what the estimated wait time was, she said it would be maybe about 15 or so minutes. No, no, no. Fifteen minutes came and went, and eventually one of the owners asked us to move out of the foyer area and cram down at the bar. It was understandable at first because the foyer was becoming congested from so many people waiting. However, it seemed like an "out of sight, out of mind" mentality. No hostess, waitress, or the owner checked on us from this point out. An hour has passed by, someone else went to talk to the hostesses. They said to wait a few more minutes, they needed to clear space upstairs for our party. Another half hour has passed. Someone goes up again and they say it will be 10 minutes. Finally after 15-20 minutes, a space is cleared and we are seated. Yes, practically TWO hours of waiting just to get seated. Even with a reservation. This place was painfully understaffed, and it was apparent. Before I talk about the food and waitresses, let me just say that when all was said and done, the ONLY thing the owner did to "make up for" the atrocious wait and lack of communication was coming by and talk to one or two of the people in our party and apologized. This guy either has zero experience in customer service or is just a cheapskate. No complimentary drinks or appetizers or anything (technically, but I'll get to that later). I know people who have worked and run restaurants--this whole situation is unacceptable, at least if you want people to come back. This might have been more acceptable if the food was phenomenal and the waitresses were great. This was not the case. Some of the food was mediocre at best, and some of it was downright insulting--certainly not worth the wait. Our party had two waitresses, a blonde and a brunette. The blonde one knew what she was doing--she was basically the only person in this place who seemed to know what she was doing. The brunette, who my girlfriend I mainly dealt with, was definitely not very experienced or adept at her job. She took down some of the orders around the table, I had ordered an entree already at this point, and sometime afterwards, she says to someone else that she is only taking appetizer orders right now... Why not start out by saying that. Eventually we get our food, my girlfriend ordered two appetizers: Philly cheesesteak eggrolls, which she said was pretty good (although not as good as the ones at other places like Iron Hill Brewery), and Philly soft pretzels, which literally tasted like they came from a tube at the supermarket. The texture was unpleasant and it did not taste fresh at all. We normally never do this, but the pretzels were that bad (and overpriced for what they were at $8) so we ended up having them take it off of our bill. The couple next to us were not impressed with their food either and said their sandwich was only OK. The bread they used as the bun was a strange choice--it was a yellow bun, so maybe a potato or cornbread. And the "homemade fries" they said tasted like store bought--nothing special. So I said we didn't get any complimentary food earlier--this is true, but our waitress messed up someone else's order, so we ended up with that appetizer for free. I finished my food pretty early because it came out with the appetizers, and I guess the brunette saw my place was empty so I got another wildmushroom flat, except this time a lot of the flat bread (this was not what I was expecting, btw, it's more like a paper thin cracker than flat bread) was pretty much burnt in most spots. So the ONLY reason we got anything "complimentary" was because the waitress messed up, twice. Also, by the time checks and desserts started to roll around, another girl in our party ordered the chocolate lava cake and ice cream. Everyone started getting their desserts (someone else actually got the same dessert) and checks--it must have been at least 20 minutes, maybe closer to 30, until they brought hers out. She was not a happy customer, understandably. It honestly wouldn't have been as bad if the management actually tried to communicate better and maybe offer a free appetizer or something, but there was literally zero attempts to make the experience any better. Yum! What a great find in Bridgeport! The place is very nicely done and i would love to go back in nice weather and use their huge patio!!! If you are a beer person, this is the place to be! I tried a grapefruit/lager beer and it was delicious and light and refreshing... We had a variety of apps and entrees - the crab mac and cheese is a winner - my husband devoured it! The firecracker shrimp are super tasty without being overly spicy. Our table ordered two burgers - and both got rave reviews. I got the lamb burger - tasty, but definitely overcooked (I asked for medium rare and i would say this was medium well) - the fries are DELISH tho and I loved the atmosphere and the service. The hostess notified me that the table given to us has a 7pm reservation. This gave us a little over an hour to enjoy the ambience. Not a problem, my concern was the 15 minute wait after being told our table is being held for a reservation. Once I met our server Sherita, it wasn't so bad. I ordered a Manhattan an Angus burger. I prefer my burgers to be medium but the cook made it med well. Bummer! I dislike sending my food back and didn't make a stink of it. Visiting near this area and let me say this was a great Saturday dinner choice. Over all my experience was very good. Service from host to server was good. My ahi tuna app was very good and had a great spicy kick to it. They even stuffed my olives for my martini with blue cheese which was perfectly made. My partners burger looked delicious and he said the fries were very fluffy yet crispy. I ordered a salad and asked about the Salmon and she said it was very good and not over cooked like most places. She was right the salmon was amazing. But I did order a spinach salad and asked to purchase a side of salmon with it and she said absolutely. But I ended up with a Caesar with salmon. The salad was a very wet Caesar salad, which is fine for some not my preference, but now I know. I didn't correct her as I didn't want my date to be delayed and make my partner to wait for me to get the correct food. So if you like Caesar salad just know how you like it and order dressing on side of you don't like it really really wet. They have a great menu and I will be back to try other foods for sure. Our waitress only checked on us a few times, she may have been really busy not sure but that's okay as I understand how that can happen and we were enjoying our conversation on the date. Towards the end we did have to wrap up as it got very very loud in the bar area and we couldn't hear each other talk. So if you trying to have a nice long date night filled with conversation don't sit near the bar. The esthetics and over all experience was great!!! read more

Good food at a decent price but terrible service and the worst margarita I've ever had

They've done an amazing job with Taphouse (previously the Point on 23). The finishes in the building are great as well as the layout. The second floor has an additional bar if it's too crowded on the first. Most impressive is the outdoor patio that has a bar, fire pits, and heaters to ward off the chill at night. It's raised above street level to make it quiet and improve the view. They scored on the menu too. I've liked everything I've tried from appetizer to dessert. They've done a particularly good job with the flatbreads. I could just have that and be fine, but I'll keep digging through the entrees. They keep a couple dozen craft beers on tap along with bottles. My one complaint was that their beer prices are expensive, but they listened to the people and put some domestics on. When the summer heats up, so will this place. read more

Checked this spot out today. I enjoyed sitting on the patio as it was 73 degrees out and sunny. I ordered the chicken cheesesteak which was pretty good. The pizza was just mediocre. The service was not the best. The waitress never came over to see how our food was. I was pretty shocked. Other than that I liked the vibe and the view. Not so sure if I will return. Great venue in the neighborhood. You'd think you were in a larger suburb or in the city of Philadelphia. They have a good selection of live night entertainment. The staff is ok, they can be hit or miss....never bad service just sometimes you get good and engaging while other times just ok. The food is the same way. Great selection of beers. read more

After being seated and completely unattended to for 20 min. we actually walked out. I've only ever done that once before...but when you've crossed the threshold into hangry, well, it can't be helped. I hope it was an off night, as we usually really enjoy this place . read more

1. Beautiful inside - I absolutely love the interior of this place. The dark wood, brick walls, and decorative tiles around the bar are all great features. It's a lot bigger inside then you'd think. Though we sat inside, the patio looks awesome. There's also a second floor.. Not sure if it's just for private parties or regular seating, but it looks cool. 2. Decent menu - went for "brunch".. Definitely not a good place for brunch. They have a handful of breakfast items but not your traditional brunch menu. I got the Taphouse Breakfast, which was okay. The potatoes tasted stale, and my scrambled eggs were watery. Also asked for crispy bacon and received "lightly seared" instead. Breakfast isn't hard, perhaps some skills need to be brushed up on. I think you might have better luck for lunch or dinner. We did order the fried cheese sticks, which looked a lot better then they actually tasted. They were definitely your standard "bulk frozen" type .. 3. Fun drinks - though their morning cocktails left more to be desired, it seems like they have a pretty good drink/beer menu. When I return (most likely for dinner) I'll be excited to try some of these. 4. "Eh" service - our server was pretty awful. I really hate to say that, because I was once one myself, but she needed some serious help. I understand it wasn't busy, but it was 12pm.. Wake up and get some pep in your step. She was nice, but very "ho-hum" about everything. We were there way too long and all due to such slow service. Also had to ask for a lot of things... Ketchup, salt, pepper, more water... This place continues to be a disappointment. The only thing positive is the outdoor patio and the bartenders. Went today for brunch; our waitress was very inexperienced and spoke at a whisper. Took over 20 minutes to bring water and coffee and was very unaware of the fact the little boy that was at our table was in fact a boy as she kept calling him a "she". Food came... she brought a table spoon of syrup for 3 French roasts and 2 pancake meals and seemed surprised when we kept asking for more. The chicken with the chicken and waffles was completely raw. After years, the service still sucks and the food is subpar at best. Won't go back... keep trying to give it a chance but it keeps coming up short. read more

So my first time here and I'm happy. Riley was awsome. The nachos wer great just forgot to take a picture of it before we ate em n the drink was so good I forgot the name. Malibu something. I got the Taphouse burger n it was very, very delicious. N u even get to taste the beer before u decide to get it. The atmosphere was also very nice for a Sunday night. I'm very sure Friday n Saturdays are very alive n just as fast. I'm definitely coming here again the next time I get the chance. read more
