    Goat burrito and menudo

Authentic Mexican food in Santa Barbara. Easy to order menu. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Ate at the location and they served the food on real plates and spoons!!! Rare now a days.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]You can see the food being cooked and fast paced.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Looks like freshly remodeled inside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] No parking but all the side streets are open. Price is fair and the portiins are perfect. Not too big Not to small perfect.

Very nice customer service and very yummy Mexican food. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The establishment is very clean and friendly welcome upon arrival.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Their menudo is the best! I love how they give you plenty of meat with the menudo & tortillas are made fresh to order.

    Carnitas gordito

We tried the gorditas -- one with adobada and one with carnitas The carnitas was lean. The adobada tastes a little like good chorizo. The Gordita was fantastic-- great homemade tortilla that was both crisp and soft The whole thing was very hot temperature. This is not something one finds at your average Mexican spot and we were so happy to try something both new and fabulous!! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance is white plastic chairs, clean and bright.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]There are 5 tables inside and several on the sidewalk.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I

    Carne asada torta

Always pay attention to the yelp rating there's a reason why this restaurant is 3.9 stars I went there to have a torta for lunch But torta was very bland and the meat which was the carne asada I ordered was very chewy and hard Also in the torta wasn't much of protein mostly it was veggies The cost of the torta was $19 with change after tax When you charge that much for a torta you have to make sure your meat is a good quality and fresh I'll give this restaurant a 1 star

Huevos con chorizo with rice and beans

Visiting Santa Barbara as part of a week-long road trip. We found ourselves on Milpas Street looking for a laundromat. But we were hungry! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Our search led us to a solid breakfast experience at this neat and clean efficient little taco shop.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We got there early enough to score a table inside, right after 11am on Sunday. There were large orders of menudo flying out the door. Like six quarts at a time, so it must be awesome! Short line and quick ordering process. They don't have huevos con machaca, and I didn't want pork or carne asada with my eggs, so I asked if I could have them add birria to my Huevos Ala Mexicana breakfast plate with tomatoes, peppers and onions scrambled in eggs, side rice no beans. Yes they would add birria, and wow! Dude, it was Goat Birria (noticed it on the menu after ordering) and it was tender and delicious! Like a bright orange shredded beef, very saucy and not overly spiced. Although they did not fry it on the flat grill until it was dry and then scramble the eggs into it like I would prefer with machaca, they served it on the side of the perfectly prepared scrambled eggs with peppers onions and tomatoes, a vegetarian offering. I really enjoyed the rice, but the corn tortillas were clearly homemade and yummy hot pliable deliciousness. Husband ordered the huevos con chorizo plate with rice and beans and devoured it all, very happy. He's not even a corn tortilla fan and ate all of his, I kept having to tell him to close the foil to keep them warm. I took half of my meal back to the hotel with the extra tortillas, and it was great leftover for breakfast the next day. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was chilly outside for Santa Barbara, but people were filling the patio as we left.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I'm betting this place does a booming business literally anytime they open the doors. Happy to have stumbled upon it while doing laundry nearby! My only regret is not trying the fresh juices!

Everything tasted fresh, right down to the refried beans. I had a chicharron gordita, and it took longer to cook but was worth the wait. There was enough food that I couldn't finish. She had a decent pork taco and an asada taco that was another five stars all by itself. It was so good I'll have to order something asada next time. The prices didn't seem out of line at all and the service was great. We've been searching out more small independent places lately and this has moved high on the list of great Mexican food for us.

Do the beans have lard ? Do they use chicken stock or beef stock in their rice? Wonder if it would ever be possible to make tortas, tacos, burritos with meat alternatives such as tempeh tofu or jackfruit?

They have veggie options and I would ask the staff if they do use lard or beef stock, as it doesn't hurt them to ask.

    Closed for the holidays?

They close for most of December every year. Can't remember if it is the entire month or just until after Christmas.

Los Agaves On De Lavina St. -- A Rare Review from Someone Who Hates Writing Reviews…read moreI spent 25 years owning a business. I know what good service looks like, and I know what entitled looks like. I never write reviews -- I watched Yelp destroy good people over bad nights, and I swore I'd stay out of it. Tonight changed that. I sat at the bar. It took the bartender over five minutes to acknowledge I existed. Another five to ten to deliver a Coke. I ordered dinner and waited forty minutes -- which I might have forgiven, except getting his attention was nearly impossible the entire night. No eye contact. Body language that made clear I was an inconvenience, not a guest. Every interaction felt like I was interrupting something more important. When I finally got him to check on my order, he went to the computer and discovered he'd never placed it. I walked out. I noticed the people around me weren't faring much better. The slowness wasn't just my experience -- it was the room. Los Agaves appears to be a popular place, and maybe on another night with another bartender it earns that reputation. But entitlement has a way of spreading when nobody checks it. I hope management is paying attention -- because a beautiful restaurant dies one invisible guest at a time.

Back to table service! Yay!!!…read more Attractive and very clean restaurant with great service. Truly delicious Mexican food. I love pozole - Cc's rendition is top notch and comes with all the extras to put in the soup including avocado, chopped onion, a whole fried tortilla to break up into the broth and Mexican oregano (the small is more than enough for one hungry person or to share with two).Homemade chips come with a four salsa selection ranging substantially hot to a delicate tomatillo green. I tried my tablemate's tacos, all three varieties were very very good. I've had takeout from here, but it's really worth going in person because the food is nuanced and best when piping hot as it's made.

Then he doesnt know how to give 88 cents back. He then starts to state something about something wrong with my credit card and pulls up a previous person's receipt. The space smelled delicious and the girl taking my order was very nice and patient while I figured out what to get. I ended up getting a carne asada taco and a grilled fish taco. I also got their pomegranate mint drink. They have two rooms. We stayed in the one by the entrance where we ordered as the other room has a step down instead of a ramp. My child was sleeping in his stroller so logistically it made it easier to just stay in the first space. When I first got the items I staired at my Carne asada in confusion as it was just a sad pile of dry looking meat next to a very beautiful fish taco. My tired self didn't see the generous salsa bar filled with wonderful toppings. Alas it was like putting lipstick on a pig, as the meat almost was at jerky level. The fish taco while it looked amazing and the fish was fresh tasting, lacked the flavor explosion I was expecting. I appreciated the taste of the drink I got however it ran a bit sweet for my taste. Overall in an area with an amazing food scene it fell short for me, but at least filled me up.

We came here on a whim and everything about it was so enjoyable!…read more The service was good. Until we got seated, the service felt lukewarm, but our server, Joquin(?) made us feel so welcome! He gave us some great advice on what to order and we enjoyed every bit of it! There was also another gentleman that brought out the umbrella for us since it was getting sunny. We had a couple workers walk by without asking, but he was so kind enough to make us comfortable. The drinks we ordered were so refreshing. We ordered the Costa Blanca, De Aqui, and the Bengala de Granada. The drinks were so crisp that it almost felt like a palette cleanser. The yellowtail crudo was perfectly balanced between sweet and citrusy. The oysters looked spicy but were pleasantly mild! The octopus was tender and soft. The paella was flavorful and nicely garlicky. Loquita is small and cute. It's a little packed inside once it gets busy, so it was a relief we got seated outside.

We were seated at the bar style seating where you get to see the kitchen, which I actually prefer since you get to see everyone work. // DRINKS // Ooo Mami: lalo tequila, mezcal, lemon, passionfruit, agave, orange bitters, umami. A little on the sweeter side, but pretty well balanced and fruit forward. 4/5 // FOOD // Patatas Bravas: yukon gold potatoes, pimentón emulsion, brava sauce, garlic aioli. This appetizer didn't stand out. It's your typical patatas bravas, but it wasn't as flavorful as I've had elsewhere. 3/5 Ensalada Invierno: roasted kale, baby beets, marcona almonds, orange supreme, coca bread, manchego foam. Very smoky! I was surprised how much the kale took on the smoke of the grill, but it was very different. 2/5 Mariscos: bomba rice, manila clams, jumbo prawns, grilled squid, squid ink, green peas, garlic aioli. The star of the show and absolutely delicious. It was so flavorful and the grilled squid was so tender and melt in your mouth delicious. 5/5 Overall, even though the starters were a miss for me, I would definitely come back for the paella and drinks again, and also to try a few of the other dishes.
