I was in Half Moon Bay, CA, looking for a place to grab a quick lunch. A kind of place that won't break the bank, not fru fru, or too touristy. Basically looking for a local, small business owned place.After a quick drive through downtown, I ended back at the regular folk (local) shopping complex away from the touristy spots. Taqueria La Mordida! Anyway, the taqueria was crowded with a line of diverse folks waiting to order. Spanish speaking customers, locals, and tourists of all shades. I summed that up as a good sign. Hubs ordered an asada crispy taco. He thoroughly enjoyed it. The house fried tortillas taco shell was fried perfectly but not fresh fried to order. Totally not a point reducer. Like always, I took a bite. The asada was flavorful, seasoned well. The taco came overflowing with shredded lettuce, pretty visual. My turn, I ordered a Bucha street taco to be told they have none today. I then asked for cabeza, then was told they have no Bucha, cabeza, tripe or lengua. For a Sunday, early afternoon, they sold out for the weekend. So I ordered an asada street taco. But what I got was mysterious looking. It looked like a combination of everything (except tripe and the asada I ordered) )they said they ran out of. I took one bite, I didn't dig it. It did not taste nor looked like the asada meat in the crispy taco that Hub ordered. It tasted and looked like boiled bland beef. Mystery meat(s). We were a perfect example of extreme different food experiences... same place, same time. Hubs luved his order, and I was the opposite. To add they have a complimentary chips and salsa bar. Nice. The salsas though were of a thin consistency and lacking flavors. The chips were house made and I dug them. Good thickness, nice crisp. I did enjoy those yummy chips. The dining room is very small. When they are busy... it is a very tight squeeze of tables, folks standing in line to order (including waiting for orders) and standing in line to wait their turn at the salsa bar. Get close n comfy. This was the last place I expected to find decent Mexican food. And it wasn't decent, it was phenomenal. They have a chips and salsa bar that included vegetables and fruit. The tortilla is made from scratch and is pressed and grilled to order. The burrito looked all right, but I didn't try it. The menudo was absolutely amazing. We also ordered the mocajete, it's enough for two people at least, everything was delicious but the cactus inside was my favorite. Was going to order a breakfast burrito, but when I asked the lady if they were decent sized, she was more focused on her tips than talking to me, and before that her and the cook were giggling and laughing in Spanish. I do not understand the positive reviews of this place. I understand that Mexican food is subjective and a lot depends on what part of Mexico influences the flavors...BUT... Street tacos should be consistent and delicious. They were not. I came after perusing the Half Moon Bay Pumpkin festival because I was starving and wanted to try a new place. I walked in, and the place was filthy. Food was on the tables, chairs, floor, and walls. This was at 1 p.m., not at 11 p.m., when they had been hustling all day. I ordered a large Jamaica, a bottle of Sidrial, and a 3 taco plate. It came out to $43. This was the first red flag. 3 tacos, rice, beans, and 2 drinks should not be that much. I ordered 2 Asada and 1 Carnitas. The Carnitas was swimming in oil and that was the ONLY flavor you could taste... oil. I did not eat this. The Asada was palatable but lacked any real flavor. The salsa was bland and watery and the rice and beans were the equivalent. Needless to say... do not eat here unless you want to pay a lot for subpar food. read more

Mordida's has some of the friendliest employees and best chips around! I love coming here for a burrito and grabbing their excellent chips and salsa to go, the burritos always hit. The food was not good at all. Super bland with no flavor at all. All of the sauces had no spice to it or flavor. One tasted like raw tomato and the other like raw jalapeños. We spent almost $100 on 4 burritos and 1 quesadilla and it was honestly really nasty. Also, the guacamole was already black when they gave us our food. We thought we would give it a try because it seemed like it had good reviews but they are probably from friends and family or people that don't really know Latin cuisine. Such a hidden gem!! The service was fast and kind! Lots of food options to choose from. All fairly priced and generous portion. I was craving some fish tacos so I ended up getting 2! My friend got a burrito and 2 tacos de Buche to share. Not sure what buche was but I ate it and liked it!! I later found out it was pork stomach.. lol. Still yummy. It was not too fatty and had lots of flavor! Like how they have a free self serve salsa bar + chips. The green salsa verde is the way to go! Fish tacos came with lettuce, pico de gallo, and sour cream. Tbh I think there was way too much lettuce. The fish was soft and flakey. Pretty tasty! One of the best, if not the best Mexican spots in HMB! We stopped here on our way back home from the beach. Love the little chip and salsa bar (the green salsa is yummy). We ordered the carne asada super nachos to share, and it was huge! Tons of meat and fresh chips. My husband got the jumbo burrito (it includes everything a super burrito has, but with extra lettuce and meat), and I ordered a super burrito. We ended up taking the burritos home since we were stuffed from the nachos. It's not your cheapest place to eat at, but it's worth it. We love this place. It is a clean mom and pop, the staff are friendly and the food is fantastic! We love their chips. They are homemade and I could just eat a bag for them. They offer different salas and pickled vegetables. They also make this spicy dish with jalapeno, onions and mangos, I could eat that with a bag of chips and be satisfied. Recently I order a beef taco and carnitas taco. Both were Delicous. The rice and beans are flavorable and scrumptious! We continue to believe this is on of our favorite restaurant. Easy to find location in a strip mall, I appreciated in these pandemic times that I didn't have to wander too far inside to place my order. The order was up pretty quick, we got carnitas nachos, an al pastor burrito, and a chicken quesadilla. The free chips were a nice touch as they packed my order to go. Skip this place if you're looking for a legit burrito. My husband's asada burrito was so bad he didn't even want to finish it. My burrito was the same sad situation, except to top it off it was ridiculously small which was just insulting for what we paid. If you make a burrito so small that there's more tortilla than filling in every bite, you have failed and you are just straight up ripping people off. I had a little bit of hope and I thought maybe that they would make up for size with flavor but when I took the first bite I noticed black grill residue all over the food. The food here is deliscious... when we are looking for something quick and mexican while visiting HMB we stop by pick up and go. We primarily come for the carne asada street tacos.
