Heard some good things about this place. Decided to try it out. First off, MASSIVE burrito holy moly. Unfortunately it fell apart halfways in. I wish it was folded/rolled better. If youre dining in, it's going to be served on a cheap flat plate. Flavor wise, it was actually pretty good. I've had better but for it being in Camarillo, I think it was good. The horchata tasted watered down. Few chairs inside to dine in. Theres a small little salsa bar with limes. Dine in only for chips. read more

Very happy with our order! The carne asada meats was tasty, marinated and yummy - asada taco & asada burrito. The bean & cheese burrito with guac was excellent, not canned beans. You'd be amazed how junk Mexican food is in Hawaii. Green salsa was good too. The lady was very nice, friendly, welcoming. Plenty parking and seats inside to sit. I was excited to see a vegan burrito option, but just a heads-up for fellow vegans and vegetarians: the Mexican rice is made with chicken-based bouillon. I asked before ordering and the staff confirmed. The bouillon they use is NOT vegan or vegetarian friendly. I let them know it might be worth clarifying on the menu, but the worker didn't seem too concerned, which was disappointing. Authentic Mexican food!! Usually get take out, love their burritos. My favorite is beef tongue. The meat is so moist. My wife either goes for the chile relleno burrito or the carnitas burrito. They pack it with meat beans and rice and u your option to put some chile sauce and unions. Can't go wrong. read more

A nice stop right off the 101, this small taqueria in old town really hit the spot craving for a breakfast burrito! I was starving coming back from LAX and a breakfast burrito sounded amazing so I pulled over and hoped for the best and wasn't disappointed. The staff was nice and there was a good amount of seating, and if you order in more than $10 you can grab your own chips and salsa which was nice while waiting for my burrito. I went with the classic chorizo, filled with rice, onions, cilantro, chorizo, eggs, and potato's and all of it came together in a decently sized burrito! I have to agree with some of the reviewers about the girl cashier going to tell the cooks my order, and they look up at you and kinda laugh. I didn't think much of it until i read the reviews and recalled it happening. I mean, if it's on the menu and someone orders it, why make fun of it? Place was clean, parking is limited. It's definitely a hole in the wall restaurant. Anyway, my initial interaction was good. Girl greeted me when i walked in, was friendly, took my order, and even offered me free chips (not sure if that's normal or it came with the food). Then she told the cooks my order. My food was made really quick. Burrito was wrapped securely and big enough for 2 people. They never asked me if I wanted mild or spicy, but my burrito was spicy - luckily I enjoyed it anyway. Do I recommend this place? I'd recommend you give it a try and form your own opinion from your own experience. I'd come back here. read more

Food is great. The ability to change any burrito into a wet burrito is awesome! I got the Cali burrito (wet) and it was great! The birria ramen was really good too. Torta ahogada, which if you haven't tried you need to, is a great sandwich I haven't found outside Mexico much. read more

Do not sleep on Taqueria Portillos! I hadn't been to this spot in years and was craving some tacos but wanted a break from my usual taco shops in Camarillo. I remembered this place was nearby the train station so decided to give them a try and I instantly regretted that I had forgotten about this spot over the years. It's fire!!! I think the reason I forget about this spot is that it's hard to see off the main drag. It's kind of tucked away in that busy corner near the Mexican market and train station in Downtown Camarillo. It's definitely easy to forget about due to the location and likely even harder to find if you don't know it's there. That's why I hope to get the word out as the good is super good and service was majorly friendly and welcoming the day I came. Stopped in on a weekday and the gal working the counter was so lovely. She was very sweet and kind. She gave me a nice compliment and what girl doesn't love a good compliment? She was friendly and repeated my order correctly and rang me up with a smile on her face. I felt super comfortable and just left in a good mood having a good experience when it came to staff/service. For take out I ordered the carnitas super tacos and one Birria taco to try. They were both delicious and super flavorful. The Birria was very tasty and authentic but I didn't order consume as I didn't want such a messy bite. It was perfect. The real winner for me personally was the carnitas and super style. Mega packed flavor and toppings this is a tasty carnitas taco. More on the fatty side which isn't an issue for me, normally I like more crunch to my pork but the style in which they are cooked here is just really good, even without the crunchy bites. Super filling too when you get them super style as that comes with additional toppings like cheese, sour cream, and guacamole. Pro tip: they also have one of the best Jamica drinks here. I love Jamica and here it's perfectly sweet without being tart and just very memorable. It was delicious and when I want a good agua Fresca at least I know they make good batches here. Prices were reasonable and service was super quick. The restaurant itself is small but clean and very much a local hole in the wall spot. No frills but food that is 5 stars easily for a casual Mexican restaurant. Just to note: they serve birria ramen here....i could definitely be interested! read more

Small but very tasty salsa bar. In a random spot, near one end of Old Town Camarillo. But I will be back to try the vegetarian burrito or the cheese enchilada. I recommend checking it out. Y U M! I love a good street taco, and it's a competitive crowd in Camarillo. Taqueria Potrillos definitely ranks in my top 3 in this town. There are a few tables indoors, a TV, and many families sitting down for a quick dinner and on their way as it's not a true "sit-down" Mexican restaurant. I would say take out is your best method of consumption. The menu is pretty expansive and includes many staples. I love any place that offers lengua, and even more exciting, this place has ramen birria! Overall, great tasting food. I would've given it the last star if I hadn't been missing a taco in my to-go order. Normally, it wouldn't phase me enough to affect my review or star-giving, but unfortunately, in this economy, at $2.50 a taco, it's notable to feel that I have all my items in my order without having to check. Not a bad spot for some Mexican. I've watched their menu evolve over the years and I find the food to be hit or miss depending on what you order. I would say everyone should at least try their chorizo here. That's one thing that is always good. The place is small with only a few tables so you are best to order your food to go. This place competes with Establos across the street and they haven't gone out of business yet. That's saying something for sure. Correct me if I'm wrong but some of the kitchen staff here used to work at El Tapatio in Camarillo before they changed ownership. I personally prefer Potrillo's to Establo's Meat Market across the street. At Potrillo's the burritos are slightly smaller but the rice to meat to bean ratio is perfect. The salsa bar is dope. The pickled potatoes are delicious and the food comes out nice and fast. read more

The service is always warm and inviting. The girls in the front are always smiling. Old school tile walls along their ordering area so it gives this feeling like you're kind of having lunch over the border. Check it out, it's an old Camarillo stable.
