On a cruise to Taranto, this ancient city is tucked neatly under Italy's heel. We were enchanted by the city's old-world charm and traditions. Borgo Antico, the island meeting point between the open sea and the bay, is filled with narrow alleys and streets. We wandered down Vicolo dei Bacio, also known as kiss alley, where it's impossible for two people to pass on this street without brushing against each other. The sea was our scenic backdrop while we were stopped here on a cruise around Italy. We almost every venue in both the old city of Taranto, the modern section wasn't particularly special.
The Sailor Monument, pays homage to Italy's Navy. The bridges that connect the old and new city, along with the fishing boats tied up on the northeast side of the island are ever-present &reminders of the surrounding clear turquoise water.
The Aragonese Castle is from the 15th Century, the Spartan Museum, baroque San Cataldo Basilica & Marta Archaeological Museum all presented artifacts from prehistory to the Middle Ages. read more
