Yum. Yum. Yum. Probably one of the best Indian restaurants I have been to. Everything was full of flavor and so delicious! For an appetizer I got the samosa chat which was a samosa topped with onions, garbanzo beans, chutneys & roti crisps. It almost reminded me of chili. I also got the masala French fries. They were so good. For my meal I got the chicken kabob plate w/ a side of grilled vegetables, basmati rice, and mint-tamarind yogurt chutney. It was delicious. My boyfriend got the lamb kabobs and he really enjoyed them as well. We also decided to try the basmati stir fried bowl medium hot w/ chicken. It is stir fried with ginger, garlic, onions & whole spices. & served with a side of a yogurt blend with roasted cumin, herbs & finely grated cucumbers, onions & potatoes! We loved it. I would also recommend to try the garlic naan. Fresh garlic and fresh naan mixed together, yummmm! For our drinks we had the mango lemonade and it was one of the best lemonades I have had. I had to make some at home. Lol we also had the strawberry lassi and it was good as well but the mango lemonade stole the show. Last but not least for dessert we tried the Gulab Jaman which was a deep fried milk pastry served warm in rosewater syrup. It was kind of like a donut hole soaked in syrup. If you've never had Indian food before then Tarka Indian Kitchen is a safe place to try it for the first time. The choices aren't too adventurous yet they are authentic enough to give any first timer a good idea of what to expect when trying a more adventurous place. One of my favorite things they have is their soups. Madras soup is a delicious well seasoned soup. Their Mulligatawny soup makes you realize why it's one of the soups that the Soup Nazi made in that famous episode of Seinfeld. It is so flavorful and tasty! Besides their soups I have had chicken tikka masala and shrimp tikka masala. I'd recommend the chicken over the shrimp. They also have a delicious mango lemonade that is very sweet and refreshing. It's not my favorite Indian place to eat but it's quick and much healthier that your typical fast food. It's definitely worth trying at least once. read more

Really really disappointed. I threw my entire order in the trash. No taste at all. I ordered the soup. Lamb kabobs and a kids meal tikka. The rice was not cooked properly and it was crunchy. Soup was bland and cold. And the lamb kabobs on the stick was so dry and had literally no flavor. I didn't even bother complaining I just know I'll never come back. I hope the owners take notice what's going on. And I really hope the food is fresh and not microwaved because it was very disappointing. Should've went to Zoe's kitchen instead. read more

I am in no way an expert on Indian food but I thought the Tikka masala was delicious. If you want quick fix Americanized Indian food, this is the place! Our party tried the vegetable samosa and chicken pakora appetizers which were tasty and being served rather quickly. Then the main dish came, lamb vindaloo (medium spiciness) and chicken tikka masala (mild). Both dishes were good portion, but have strong tomato paste after taste and both dishes rather salty. The chicken briyani (mild) was on the salty side too, and good portion. Customer service was good and good parking spots. We will try again if we crave Indian food, but will not be in a hurry. read more

I guess not all franchises are created equal. The food is tasteless, everything taste the same like boiled water. I've visited Tarka in Austin and The Heights on several occasions and never has the food been this bad. Look at the Garlic Naan in the picture it's not only lacking taste but it's also lacking garlic and butter. I believe a microwave dinner would have been better. read more

My first time here yesterday and I was pleasantly satisfied. I went with the lamb tiki masala. Flavor was robust, lamb cooked well, rice cooked perfectly and automatic. Was a little let down with the amount of meat but for the cost, I can't complain too much. I would, personally, not use jalapeno for heat but that's just my preference. I think there's better flavored peppers that pair well in a curry. The garlic naan was interesting. It was prepared well but I think I'll stick with traditional next time. Overall very pleased. We went to Tarka for lunch for the first time today. I ordered the lamb vindaloo medium spicy, and my wife ordered the chicken tikka masala mild. We also ordered a side of garlic naan and a side of samosas. We were very impressed. I'm an Indian girl so I eat Indian a lot and the food was hot, fresh, and flavorful. I would probably go up to the hot lamb vindaloo next time, since I enjoy hot food, but it's good to be cautious initially when dealing with the unknown. The lamb didn't have that yucky gamey flavor some lamb does either. The samosas were amazing, probably the best I have ever tasted. I agree with other reviewers about the great music and cleanliness of the restaurant. That made for a pleasant experience. My one complaint would be the garlic naan. I didn't care for it personally. It was very garlicky and tasted too much like Italian bread. I prefer the plain apparently, but I'm a purist. Next time (and there will be a next time) I'll just order that. read more

( I would say about 20 min) which is surprising because I had a fairly large order and it takes a long time to make. I asked for extra spicy and they made it mild. Food pretty good. Service really bad. Called in a to go order. The guy taking my order had no business answering the phone. Spoke super fast and soft. I Could understand very little. (Yes I have 100% of my hearing). Walked in the door and I don't want to assume it was the same person, but after walking up to the counter and standing there for a while looking around I had to say hello to him because him acknowledging me first never happened. I don't agree with the long programmed forced greetings but at least say Hi! There's a few other employees that don't speak or acknowledge people. There's just the same feel of the authentic Chinese or Indian restaurants where they could care less about nice cheerful professional customer service. I've come back a few times because the food is pretty tasty. Although not authentic it is a good suburban ethnic food option for folks looking for a quick, good quality bite and a change of scene from the dining room at the house. Although I was looking for just a quick bite, my visit didn't leave me satisfied from the flavor perspective. I ordered the CTM with naan and my son wanted the kids Paneer Biryani. He did finish his bowl but he did complain the quantity could be a little more (he is 7). My CTM didn't have the flavor I was expecting, something in it was overpowering (maybe garam masala), and the sauce was darker than typical CTM I'm familiar with. The naan bread were made fresh and had good texture but again lacking little in flavor. Their mango lemonade is stunning! Not a big fan of their soda options. Overall, my 3 stars are for ambience, freshness and good customer service. Would love to taste little more in their flavors in future. read more

This was our first time trying Indian food. We ordered vegetable samosas to start. They were like fried empanadas and they were pretty tasty. My husband ordered the Tikka Masala Curry and I ordered the Vindaloo. I was impressed with the freshness of the product. Between the 2 curries i'd say the Tikka Masala was definitely tastier.
