We were disappointed with our visit here. The service was awful. 3 stars because the guys bussing tables were friendly and super busy, but the wait staff seemed annoyed we were there. I ordered the spring green salad which was quite good, but the eggplant panini was just plain bad. It was cold, dry and unappetizing. We had to send it back and didn't even ask for a replacement. What an amazing local place. Recommended by friends, we went for dinner. First let me say that they are adhering to all of the COVID protocols: separated tables and waitstaff with masks. We saw them cleaning tables after each patron we were seated outside, but were warned by a great heater In the ceiling. And now for the food. The menu is diverse in terms of entrees, sandwiches, paninis and pasta. The fisherman's stew (a special) was tasty, filling and cooked very well. The Gorgonzola gnocchi was creamy and wonderful. Our friends had the brick chicken and beef stroganoff. They said it was really good. For dessert we split 2 very different creations. The Cherry Vanilla bread pudding was soft and sweet. The Flourless Chocolate Peanut Butter Tart had just enough PB as to not over shadow the chocolate. It was smooth and decadent. All in all a great meal. We shall return. My new local favorite, nestled on the east side of beautiful Coronado is a very chic inconspicuous European restaurant, open seven days a week , large staff of 30 working hard Everyday. The dinner we had tonight was outstanding, I had the beef stroganoff and my wife had the baked Salmon with fresh vegetables. The beef stroganoff was seasoned to perfection, I required no additional seasoning. My wife's salmon was grilled just right and big and flaky. The steamed vegetables were so fresh and crisp. Our desert was two great items , the lemon meringue tart and the Caffe Latte Tart, both were off the charts great , so scrupulous , the black coffee so fresh and bold. I visited this restaurant after receiving great care at the Salon nearby. I waited like the sign clearly says to be seated. There were exactly two tables being served. I was greeted by a tall man who said be seated I will bring you a menu. No one waited on me. Still no menu while a lady walked in was promptly seated, with a smile and handed a-menu, utensils and asked if she would like a drink. The drink was brought and still being ignored I asked what trick do I need to get waited on? A man brought a menu. Still the waiter who was doing nothing never came. Finally I was told by the Manager i was at a different station and had to wait. I walked out all good feelings now gone.. This manager should be fired as well as the lazy waiter. Especially the baguette--which was my expectation, but it really was tasty. They have a huge selection of desserts and I would deffo come back to try some more. Tartine is such an underrated gemcafe. I often visit Coronado on my bicycle via the ferry. Tartine is just across the street from the ferry landing and has a big, charming patio perfect for lingering over a bottle of wine, enjoying their delicious homemade pastries and unpretentious, well-made European meals. Tonight I had a fresh and crisp white bean and vegetable ragú that was light and lemony, along with some crusty bread and butter. Also had a perfect, rich Mexican hot chocolate. All this for under $20. Locals know, as tables are always reserved at dinner. Some gripes on Yelp about service, but I have only ever had prompt, courteous, friendly, and professional service here. After 20 or so years of visiting this gem, I decided to speak my mind--it feels like giving away a secret, but so be it. read more

Great place that seems to just know how to put out good food, with an unpretentious atmosphere that is a favorite of locals and visitors. Steak frites is solid, dependable. The fish of the day is always excellent, and the salads are great. They use produce from the local Farmer's market (I've seen the chef shopping there). Wines are reasonable and well selected, and the desserts are all excellent - try the blackberry cheesecake! Came here for a quick breakfast- husband got bread and jam, I got the veggie quiche with a side of fruit. The jam was DELICIOUS. The bread was a little crunchier than we would have liked. The quiche was a little bland - nothing a little salt couldn't help. Fruit was fresh and varied. We got a lemon cookie to go and that was on point! Tartine has pretty bad customer service. I went here to have some coffee and a quick bite by myself and when I asked for a table one of the waitresses asked "are you even going to order dinner?". Assumably this was because I was in casual wear and alone she though that I didn't deserve a table if I wasn't going to order dinner. This is a cafe, not some fine dinning establishment and I can order coffee and a croissant and still want to sit at a table. I ended up having a hard time getting this staff member to assist me. She always left promptly and didn't seem to want to wait on me. There was also a reservation sign on the table with a name and time. I got there are 6:30 and the time was for 7:15. I wasn't planning on spending more that 30 minutes there. But her inability to assist me madenitntake much longer I ordered quite a bit of coffee and ask for a small glass of sparkling water. She then said "oh we don't sell small sparking water like that, we sell the large bottle and I'm sure your don't want to spend the 5 dollars for it." I laughed and said oh it's fine. Now I get that,that's a vague reply, but I still wanted your five dollar sparking water. And she never gave it to me. I had to walk in after a comply different waiter helped me the rest of the night. And I order a sparkling water before I left, as this waitress seemed to completely ignore me. read more

Yes! Another Tartine to check off my list. Checked out Tartine last week and thoroughly enjoyed it. We sat out in the patio because the inside was a bit stuffy. Even with the wind, we enjoyed our brunch. We ordered the following items: 1. Charcuterie Plate - with salami, pate, brie, prosciutto, olives, mixed green salad and a baguette. Mmmmm so good and more than enough for two people 2. Turkey and artichoke panini - it was good but a bit dry, it needed something else, but I just don't know what. My friend said it needed hot sauce...I think some aioli would have been good. 3. House coffee - super yum 4. Oatmeal/cranberry cookie - you need to get a dozen of these! So good! We came to Tartine on a recent Sunday afternoon. We were trying to miss the huge crowds watching football and found this cute little restaurant! My husband and I both ordered the Greek Salad. We were both impressed by how good this salad was! With plenty of fresh tomato, black olive, cucumber, and mixed greens with a wonderful vinaigrette dressing, this salad was great! What was equally surprising was just how great our son's pizza was. It was positively yummy. Normally we wouldn't find such a good pizza at a restaurant that isn't known for it's pizzas! What this place is known for is their dessert. My son and I stood in front of that case (full the prettiest desserts ever) for a while, just trying to decide! Finally, with the help of a thoughtful employee, we decided on the Chocolate Mousse.It was rich and delicious. After looking at their wonderful menu, we'll have to come back and try a few favorites: Coconut Cream Cake, one of the Cheesecakes, Chocolate Tira Misu Torte, or that White Chocolate Pistachio Bavarian! I think we'll have to try each on our next visit...yum! We had good service here too! We had lots of questions about the lunch menu and desserts, and our waitress was extremely patient. Drinks were refilled quickly, and she checked on us fairly often. It was nice to find a cute restaurant with such pleasant service. We also thought the patio was wonderful here too. When visiting Coronado, Tartine was a nice place for a great lunch and a really wonderful dessert. We will have to go back and try all of those other dessert options sometime really soon! read more

Just not the same place as in 2010. I stopped by for dessert and coffee and walked away not impressed. This is a locals-only type of place but it wasn't always that way. I remember a friendlier bakery and friendlier service. Tartine came off as pretentious so I'm wondering if there has been a change in ownership. It's interesting that you walk and try to order some dessert and a cup of Joe and you're rudely shut down and told to find a waitress. Many of the tables in this mostly empty bakery have names on them. You know the drill, it's the whole "Yeah, the place is empty but those tables are reserved for the VIPs" bullshit. Dinner did look good, but most people were drinking coffee and eating pastries. We ordered a Pavlova and some Apple slice bread. The Pavlova was amazing as always, the bread was dry and bland. The coffee was terrible and lukewarm. It had been sitting in it's thurmos all day apparently. I wholeheartedly agree with the negative reviews for this place. I grew up in Coronado and it doesn't need a place like this. If you come here, you must get the Pavlova and only the Pavlova. Oh, and get yours to go. read more

This review is only for the desserts. I found this place quite some time ago when visiting Coronado at night and heading for the park down at the water. We stopped off to pick up something sweet to eat while we viewed San Diego Harbor and Skyline. Now it has become a regular place for me and I don't live anywhere near here. They are located right across the street from Centennial Park and regardless if I come here late at night, early evening or daytime I have always found parking less than a block away and you have to love Coronado metered parking. Twenty-five cents for an hour! You just can't beat that. My most recent visit all I wanted was Creme Brulee, my favorite. I was going to just take it to-go as usual but they recommended that I sit down. I felt bad because I didn't want to dirty up a table just for a single dessert, but I obliged them. I also went ahead and had an iced tea (black). Although I was just having a dessert, they treated me as if I were a party of four having dinner. The iced tea was brought out in a tall glass and very very cold indeed. Then they brought over the creme brulee in a traditional bowl. The top had a beautiful caramelized layer with fresh berries atop. I used my spoon and broke through to find the top caramelized layer very thin. I can't say how many places I've been to, "fine dining" restaurants, that serve creme brulee with an unusually thick layer which is not at all the way creme brulee is supposed to be. There is a nice outdoor patio area you can sit and have the full menu. They are located right on the corner so there's quite a bit of foot traffic and people watching. Or just take your order across the street to the park and enjoy the stunning view of San Diego Harbor and Skyline. We have had many desserts here and they have all been amazing. But my favorite by far is the creme brulee and would have to say it is the best creme brulee I have had from anywhere. Their service is very good. Again, my server gave me first class service even though I was only having a dessert. I don't live anywhere near Coronado but I'll gladly drive out of my way to come here just for the desserts. I can only imagine with the quality put into the desserts that their food is equally good and someday I will try it! But if you want some of the best desserts you will find anywhere in San Diego, you need to come and give them a try. read more

What an amazing place! Located in beautiful Coronado CA you couldn't ask for more. The service was amazing and the food and coffee was even better. I order the ham and Brie tartine and I was amazed at how soft the bread was and how the Brie was melted perfectly. The salad it came with had a delicious dressing and paired perfectly with the sandwich. But I have to say the best part of the meal was the desert! I thought Tartine sounded like the perfect place to have a breakfast/brunch that would be on the lighter side, rather than some of the other options in town, where no doubt I would have gotten something that would be delicious but would weigh me down the rest of the day. (Wow that was an epically long sentence.) Tartine was indeed the perfect spot! I arrived around 11am (Saturday) and found a table outside, foregoing the few available inside as it was so pleasant out. I ordered the ham and grueyer quiche and it was honestly the best I've had in as long as I can remember. It had so much ham and cheese, and was Soo creamy! The crust was delicious as well, flakey and flavorful. I was so sad when it was gone. I also enjoyed a double latte, equally yummy. I decided I was going to walk to the Del and the Shores, because I could tell traffic/parking were going to be a bear, and it was pleasantly cloudy....but I wanted to bring back a couple of desserts at the end of the day. The staff was kind enough to box up my treats so that I could retrieve them at the end of the day. So glad I asked because they only had one lemon meringue tart left by the time I returned in the late afternoon. I loved the lemon meringue tart! The meringue was sweeter and creamer than I've had, but it was perfect with the tartness of the lemon. I hate sweet lemon things, they should taste like lemon! This did, so so very delightful! The flourless chocolate coconut cake is being saved for tomorrow night! I have no doubt it will be lovely. I'm considering coming back to Coronado just to go back to Tartine. This place is popular for its desserts. We came here for lunch. Food is not bad, dessert was good, service (at least our server) was pretty bad. We had the quiche with fruit ($10.50), croque Monsieur ($9.50), and ricotta pistachio tart ($8). The quiche was good. The croque Monsieur was way too salty. The tart was very rich and it would have been better with a little more fruit but still good. I also had a pot of the green tropical tea ($3.75). I thought it was going to be brewed tea but it was just a teapot with a tea bag. Service was not that great because our server was just so slow and inattentive. The food and ambiance warrants 4 stars but I was just so irritated with the server that I had to dock off a star. Cute stop for dessert if you are in the area. Tartine is a cute little bakery/cafe in Coronado. We went on Valentine's Day not knowing we had to make reservations when we got there at 4:30 so we couldn't sit down and eat. We ended up buying dessert to go. We got their chocolate mousse and chocolate bread pudding. Their bread pudding was impressive and I would get it again. This Tartine is NOT related to the one in San Francisco. They've been in Coronado for 18 years. The owner made that very clear. Give this place a check-in! read more

What's not to love about perfection! The Raspberry Mimosa is a must have! I crave these, simply because they make their own raspberry syrup and they are heaven. Paired with the quiche.....a light pillowy and creamy quiche, you will be floating away! Even the house greens are delicious. Last night I tried the Chicken with a broccoli risotto, nice Parmesan shavings sprinkled on top! The only complaint I had was I had no room for dessert! The coffee and pastries are flavorful and unique. The only challenge we had was being ignored at the counter. We stood there for about 5 minutes and it seemed other people were helped first. We tried to get the attention of a server not helping people (blonde with a ponytail) and she looked passed us and didn't even say "someone would be right with us". I've been hearing about this place for several years, but never got around to trying it. Today we were looking for a light lunch to share as a picnic. Their ham and gruyere quiche with a side salad was just the thing. Then we fell in love with the pavlova with it's crown of fruits and rose petals. The quiche was one of the best we've had and the pavlova was delectable. The meringue was so fresh and crisp, the cream was real and the fruits were fresh and sweet. Next time we'll each get a quiche, one with salad and one with fresh fruit.
