I've been wanting to visit this location for awhile and finally made the trek on a Sunday morning around 9am. Minimal street parking out front, but if you walk a block there is metered parking and there's also a parking lot for Ralph's where you could probably also park. I know this is a pseudo-chain, but I liked how the decor made it feel like a local place. Service was friendly and patient with making some suggestions for what to try. As far as coffee goes I got the morning bun latte and my husband got the americano. I'm not sure I would go back specifically for coffee, but it satisfied the itch. The pastries on the other hand, so delicious! You're immediately greeted by the rich smell of butter and croissant so it definitely set the table and got our taste buds excited. I tried the seasonal hand pie, kumquat and lemon, and was happy with the jam-like quality of the filling. The star of our order was the ham and cheese croissant sandwich. It was a buttery croissant topped with ham, Gruyère, fried egg, and some type of verde salsa. Highly recommend! read more

We came here on a mellow Monday early afternoon for the first time. Ordered a Smoked Salmon Tartine, ham and cheese grilled sandwich, plain croissant, a Matcha latte and a Mocha. I noticed that this place had some bad reviews, mainly for being too overpriced but I think you really get what you paid for. The Black Forest ham and Gruyère was made on some beautiful bread and the drinks were so good! The coffee had a beautifully well rounded flavor of chocolate and so delicious! They also use premium milk options from Clover Farms so very clean ingredients. The smoked salmon was well executed, delicious and art on a plate! Good ingredients cost more in general so I understand the prices. Service was very friendly and warm. Food came out quickly and we will definitely be back! read more

I'm sure it's the chain business itself and not the particular location, could be wrong. Got one small iced latte (extra $1.50 for oat milk) and the total was nearly $10. Would have appreciated if the worker mentioned the milk substitution being an extra charge or a sign at the front about it. The best bread in Pasadena. I come nearly every week for a loaf. My favorites are the country loaf and the sesame loaf. There's baguette is excellent as well. The daily quiche is always good too. Tartine has a very nice neighborhood vibe off the beaten path of Old Towne Pasadena. Today the outdoor seating was bright even though it was a crisp winter morning. There are so many sweet and savory option, but if you have to pick just one, go for the chocolate croissant. But only if you are a chocolate snob and love dark chocolate. The earthy bitterness was a delight, like being wrapped in black velvet, both decadent and luxurious! I was excited this place opened up in Pasadena! I went to the original location in SF and loved their bread! To get there there's plenty of street parking. This part of green street has traffic in both directions and it's not a busy part of Pasadena. It's right next to yoga six and Ralphs. I love their bread, it's chewy, fire brick oven made, with a crispy crust. They sell loafs along with other pastries and desserts. I went with hubby and we got the ham and gruyere cheese sandwich and the salmon tartine. Both were yummy but in terms of the quality of the bread, it's not as good as the SF location. The amount of food was okay and the presentation was beautiful, but I wasn't wowed by the food as I was in SF. One thing to note that I noticed was posted that they add an extra charge to support wages, this was NOT verbally informed as I placed my order. I only noticed it on my receipt afterwards. As I do support this whole heartily, I find it very frustrating when the price of the menu items are very high, yet restaurants like this to support employee benefits. What's even more frustrating is that it's added to my bill without my knowledge until after the fact. There is a lack of customer service. No greeting, just place your order and someone will bring it to you outside. We had to get our own cutlery so everything was pretty much self service. We bussed our own table and I don't think anyone cleans the space before the next set of customers so wipe down your own table. There are other smaller businesses locally I would rather support with better quality food, that's less expensive and a more positive dining experience. read more

My first Tartine experience, after Yelpers that I follow raved about this place. Decided to check it out at around 11a on a weekday and brought my work laptop to call it my office for an hour or two. So glad to be able to get a table outdoors under some shade so it was a pleasant working experience. A little on the pricier end, I decided to get a few items that Tartine was known for: - croissant ($6): very buttery, crusty and BIG! I was pulling the croissant apart and truly enjoyed eating the middle, soft part of the croissant. I really liked this, but more of a treat as it's rather pricey - morning bun ($6): a bit on the sweeter side, but I like my pastries sweet so I liked this. Cinnamon, sugary goodness. It was good with some tea. - Matcha latte ($6): this was ok. It was just matcha powder, milk and water and there wasn't any Tartine-craft that went into this. Nothing fancy. Maybe other drinks are better, but wouldn't recommend this one. - Baguette ($6.25): my vision was to make myself a Brie, apple and ham sandwich with this baguette, and I'm happy to say that my vision worked out well :) I think this bread was pretty good but wouldn't go out of my way for it. I parked on the street, but there's a Ralph's supermarket next door so plenty of parking there. I liked this place! But likely won't come out of my way to get my fix. Good not great. Love the San Fran main bakery though. The 2 pastries I had here (almond frangipane croissant and morning bun) are drier than what I've had. The baguette was more pillowy inside, the crust chewier and less crusty than I would have preferred. All in all, I will come back since this may be because it's a newly opened outpost. I hadn't heard of Tartine until I had brunch with a friend who had a few options delivered from their restaurant. We had quiche, side of bacon, and some other pastries, all of which were delicious. Today, I made a delivery order from Tartine using the Door Dash app. I had already placed a few items in my cart, but specifically wanted the quiche, which was not one of the DoorDash menu options. I had to call the restaurant and the person that answered was very helpful. She suggested I order from their website, which I did...only to find that the quiche was listed but not the side of bacon I wanted. I ended up ordering from Tartine's website and DoorDash, which was pretty frustrating and costly!! Nonetheless, I thoroughly enjoyed my food...veggie quiche, side of bacon, side of avocado slices, and seasonal hand pie (don't judge me; I woke up hungry). The morning bun was very tasty as well but have a vacuum nearby because you'll need a "cleanup on Aisle 5" from all the crumbs. LMAO! Seriously though... Located on the first floor of Catania apartments, it's a smaller location with less options compared to other Tartines. Street parking is available with 2 hour limit Mon-Sat and no restrictions on Sundays. No indoor dining option is available, but there are some covered tables and non-covered tables available to dine on. We were off to a good start with the cold brew, which was nice and smooth. The vegan crumb cake with seasonal jam was delicious! The dairy free tuna sandwich on their vegan country loaf satisfied my craving for a tuna sandwich and was decent. I took a bite of the pain au chocolat, which was buttery and amazing. FYI, they charge a 4% employee benefit surcharge to your bill if you want to keep that in mind for tipping purposes. Stopped by to pick up an entire loaf of bread, but they don't offer cutting services. Whole Foods does. Instead, u can opt to buy the half loaf precut bread, which when you do the math, is 20% more expensive. Croissants are 6.75$ a pop! Automatic employee heath charge 4%, but also asks for a tip. They don't tell you up front, so if you're not paying attention, it sucks. Somehow, I still miss the SF location. I'll just go to WF nearby next time. read more

Tartine is a cute little bakery that serves up artisanal breads and pastries. While new to Pasadena, Tartine is actually pretty famous up in Nor-Cal, which I hadn't realized until recently. Anyways, the prices are on the steeper side, and it may or may not be worth it depending on what you get. I ordered a slice of their crumb cake with seasonal jam and an almond croissant. The crumb cake was delicious, and I enjoyed the contrast in flavors between the sweet coffee cake and the tart blackberry jam baked in. The almond croissant on the other hand was disappointing to say the least. The employee explained to me how they make their almond croissants using the leftover plain croissants that aren't sold, and they add the almond filling and bake it again, which makes their almond croissants crispier than you might expect. If it was just crispy that would have been fine, great even, but my almond croissant was incredibly dry and hard, and left me wanting. Sadly, my latte was also pretty mediocre. Given that I paid over $20 for a small coffee and two pastries, and I only enjoyed one of the three items, I'm not all that interested in returning. Tartine doesn't need this review, but it certainly deserves it. Pasadena is lucky enough to be graced with this outpost of Tartine. Their bread is great and I especially appreciate that they sell both full and half loaves. Their pastries are excellent. My favorite being the ham and cheese croissant. The first time I had one, I bit into those impossibly crisp layers of butter, flour, ham, and cheese and I just knew it was the best croissant I had ever eaten. Their savory scone is amazing, cheesy and spicy and I prefer it to the sweet version. The seasonal hand pies are lovely dough wrapped around homemade fruit fillings. Mine happened to be lemon and kumquat, which was both interesting and delicious. I've tried their sandwiches as well, the tuna salad and the grilled turkey and they are ok. Their coconut cake in the display case is lovely and very coconutty as well. For holidays, they offer special items that you can preorder. You come here for one thing and one thing only, their sourdough bread. Their sourdough is phenomenal, the best I have found outside of San Francisco. Super flavorful and moist. $8.75 for half a loaf. Their pastries suck they're not anything like the ones in San Francisco so don't get your hopes up. They're wildly overpriced, yeah I paid $18 for a tuna sandwich, just a plain old tuna sandwich, with hardly any tuna on it. Yup it was good, nope it wasn't worth the price. Tartine is such an institution so not much needs to be said. I'd say pass on most of the drinks. The croissants of course are very good, but crisper than your average one. One bite and the whole thing will fly into a million pieces. I personally like my croissant a tad less crispy, but to each their own. The morning bun was too sweet for me. Enjoyed getting a loaf of their sourdough. I'd stop by if I was close by, but I wouldn't go out of the way. Finally got a chance to try a few of the pastries at Tartine and they did not disappoint! I got their sweet danish and a fruit tart and out of the two the fruit tart was my favorite! It was overflowing with fresh blueberries and raspberries, and the filling wasn't overly sweet. The sweet tart dough was not overly baked and complimented the cream filling. As for the sweet danish, the top was filled with a light cream cheese filling with abbot of passion fruit on top. There wasn't a lot of the filling which was a bit of a disappoint since it felt like I was eating mostly pastry. The pastry was super crispy but not burnt and had a light sugar glaze on top. Overall, the fruit tart was probably my favorite between the two. I would definitely come back to try their other pastries! read more

I've heard the hype on Tartine for years so I came here with a healthy dose of skepticism. But, I now can see why they're so popular. The Pasadena location is a compact store front located at the relatively remote section of Green Street. I was like a kid in a candy store when I walked in. I had to exercise extreme self control and only pick up a few items. The banana cream pie looked good and it tasted just as good. I was initially not too impressed with the bland dry crumbly pie crust that holds the banana cream. But it grew on me. Before long I started to appreciate how the crust balanced the sweetness of the filling. The almond crescent and pan au jamon were some of the best crescents in town. Still not quite as good as the crescents at breakfast at a random Paris corner bistro ; but, they are still pretty damned good. I also picked up a buttermilk loaf. It must weighted at least 2 lbs. It was quite moist with a relatively dense texture. There was a bit of saltiness and a hint of sourness from the sourdough mother dough. The only downside is their prices are on the steep side even considering the current inflationary environment. read more

Nice firm and crunchy texture with the perfect balance of ham and cheese. plain croissant - Good texture and decent butter flavor throughout. pain au chocolate - Good texture but needed more chocolate. Really didn't get much chocolate flavor as I was expecting or hoped for. Disappointed with this one. frangipane croissant - Good texture but lacked an almond flavor. An excellent bakery that seemingly has mastered the art of pastries and artisanal bread, Tartine certainly lives up to its reputation as a carb lover's heaven for all things bread related. Parking is a breeze, with plentiful street parking around- at least on a weekday afternoon, it was like that. The bakery is unassuming on the outside, with a spacious patio area for outdoor seating. Inside, you're greeted by a scent of freshly baked bread that reminds you that you've walked into serious bread and pastry territory. The menu is plentiful and varied, and there's quality to be found up and down the menu. I ordered a cold brew coffee with a 4" banana cream tart on a recent meetup with some friends, and was impressed by what I got. The banana cream tart was bigger than expected, so much so I shared it with my friends. It tasted like a decadent banana cream pie that wasn't too overly sweet, with a flaky light crust to hold the rich filling perfectly together. The cold brew was not bitter at all, and was very smooth and balanced. Overall, I loved what I saw on my first visit here and would definitely come back in the future to enjoy an afternoon break here with some friends. read more

From the flaky, soft and tasty almond and chocolate croissants to the amazingly tea lemon bread where both flavors you can taste equally, Tartine is definitely one of my favorite go-to pastries. This location has some tables outside if you want to enjoy a cup of coffee with your pastry and catch up with a friend. They usually sell out of their pastries by afternoon, so make sure to come in the morning to be able to get their more popular menu items! I got this tiniest little Costco sample cup as a cup of coffee and I paid $5.50 for this thing. This whole place is way overpriced. The bf really wanted to go to a nice bakery so I suggested Tartine, one of my long time bookmarks. We parked on the street, literally right up front. I'm rarely that lucky with parking but the guy has special parking powers and literally always snags great spots. So it's set up where you order at the counter before finding your seat (outdoor seating only). I was eyeing the last frangipane croissant while second to next in line and figured it must be good if it's about to sell out. I ordered it when it was my turn only to be told the lady in front of me ordered the last one :( I ended up getting the sweet scone, snagging the last one (aww yisss). We also ordered a slice of their chocolate cake with an iced latte. It was pretty crowded on a Sunday at 1pm but I managed to snatch a table while he waited inside for the latte. We shared everything and really liked the chocolate cake. It was rich without being overly dry, sweet, or heavy. The scone was good but the chocolate cake definitely stole the show. Should've had the scone first but couldn't help myself. We really enjoyed our experience here, sharing pastries and coffee outdoors on a beautiful day. My guy is pretty picky and him really liking this place speaks volumes. Got there a few minutes after it opened on a Saturday. There were a few parties in line already. This location seems to offer more options than the other two. Everything looked so appetizing. Hard to narrow down. I went for Lemon Cream Pie & Chocolate Cream Pie. Both were great, especially the former. Hubby tried Morning Bun & Seasonal Hand Pie (with passionfruit & kumquat), fresh & flakey. We also had an Earl Grey Latte, which was good. They do offer a stamp card for beverages. All this added up to $40 surprisingly, but we are going back for the other goodies. Meter parking is not enforced until 11am, so street parking is easy. Living down the street, I have been twice. I am so excited to try the seed blend they sell. Looks cool on my counter too. Quality is so worth the price. My only issue is the staff. I hate to say this but I feel so uncomfortable. I can't explain it, but like I don't belong and I never feel this way. I feel There's a big difference in the attitude of the patrons vs the staff like they are doing me a favor for being there. Could be my imagination but total bad energy. I wanted a nice warm drink and pastries on a rare rainy and cold LA day so I stopped off. Placed my order and tipped 20% before I even got my order since this is the norm now. I asked for a drink that was a temperature between an adult and child drink. Once I was in the car I realized my drink was barely lukewarm. I had removed my coat and didn't want to venture out again to have them change my drink. I was mad that my $7 drink was gross and that the barista hadn't even taken the time to check the temperature on my drink like most cafes do. I have been to the SM Tartine and love their service, this place needs a retraining. We tip based on an expectation they can't deliver. I can't return, I know Tartine has a reputation for quality but this location doesn't provide that. On top of that Tartine charges an employee benefit to their prices so you end up paying like 25% more after tipping for atrocious service and food. read more

I saw a girl park on the red right in front of the restaurant, dash in to grab her to-go meal, and approach her car, but by that point, a meter maid was already writing her a ticket--even for her 5 minute absence. Hence, you have been warned! Food: If you've been to Tartine at any other location, then you know what to expect... which is carbs. (Do any of us have issues with that? Absolutely not!) As can (also) be expected, this place is pricey! The last time I got lunch here with my friend, I ended up spending $77. As for things I've gotten in the past... - Tuna Sandwich: This is a prepackaged item in the cold section. It's good but not great. - Pain Au Jambon: I'm a fan of ham and gruyere. I get this to-go every single time I come here. - Morning Bun: This is 100% a sugar bomb. If you haven't had it, I say try it once. As for me, I won't be getting it again. It's like a flaky sugar donut. - Chocolate chip walnut cookie: I don't have a big sweet tooth, but I do like choco chip cookies and this one was big and shareable. - Egg Sandwich: very fluffy egg.
