I kept my distance for ages because I was hands down a Vita supporter, and even when I scoped out White Cow I wasn't too impressed with the froyo options, and the toppings in particular were junky candy, basically Cold Rock style without the fun of the chopping board. But then... then I discovered White Cow's gelato and sorbet. Forget froyo, this stuff is the glorious stuff of legend. So delicious, and such excellent flavours. Even the sorbet tastes creamy! How! I don't care, don't explain it to me. All I know is whenever I'm passing through Centrepoint, I can't resist White Cow's siren song. EFTPOS is available but under $10 will cost you an extra 30c for savings/cheque or $1 for credit. (IMO worth it for stuff this good but YMMV.) In a small, unassuming shop right off the main road, a few seats inside and a few seats outdoors. They have a few treats in a case, nothing particularly substantial but yummy none the less- muffins, tarts, that sort of thing. You can grab some specialty coffee roasts from small, boutique batch roasters and some other at home coffee brewing items, plus lots of helpful advice and to get you going. They also do barista and coffee training... and it shows! Now the main thing you're going there for is the coffee. And it doesn't disappoint. Two sizes, usual options. Nice and strong without being bitter and immediately drinkable- it comes out at the perfect temperature. The staff remember you and what you order, and always greet you by name. Easily the beat coffee in Kingston.

Food choices were fairly limited, but they had egg and bacon rolls and chicken schnitzel rolls, so brunch seemed adequately covered. Unfortunately, the experience was totally disappointing. The place has had a renovation since last time and looks funky, but at the cost of comfort. The little stools really weren't very nice to sit on. I didn't finish my coffee: both my wife and my coffees were overheated and watery - worst coffee I've had in Hobart. That was topped off with unremarkable food. I won't be going back.

My take-away coffee was served way too hot, but my disappointment there was well and truly outweighed by my delight in the spicy Korean chicken pide. HOLY CRAP, THAT PIDE! I wouldn't have described it as "spicy" but the flavour was insanely good, and it wasn't just the chicken. The whole thing made my life better. Delicious, fresh bread and just the right combination of salad stuff made it one of the best face-treats I've had in this town. Eating in is only possible in small groups, because there's very limited space - but most of their menu can be taken away (pides pides pides get a pide take a pide away subliminal pide message). I was curious to see a little sign saying they sell duck fat (infused with amazing spices) here, perfect for roast potatoes... instant drool. I'm clearly going to have to learn which of the bazillion potato types that are available down here is best for roasting, so I can get on that. Thank you, Shoebox. There's a large selection of pides for lunch so do yourself a favour and try one. I won't rest until I've sampled the entire menu. The barista was great and helped me pick out a great espresso as well. The shop had great views and a really nice patio. Abercrombie is a great a spot to have a coffee and enjoy the sunshine.
