I hate to be such a curmudgeon, as it seems folks are a big fan of this place, but I was not impressed. Went on a Tuesday late morning so didn't run into issues with crowds or them running out of donuts as some have mentioned. Ordered 6 minis for 4.50. Now, they are the most adorable things you've ever seen but the taste was terrible. They were dry as a bone and very artificial tasting. I only ate one in its entirety...the chocolate...but it still wasn't anything special. Tip: parking is on the road and you might just miss it if you aren't really paying attention. read more

These donuts are like mini works of art! This is my "go to" place whenever I want to bring a treat into the office to share with my team. People are always impressed by home unique and pretty these donuts are and I am constantly singing the praises of Tastease! The shop is on a busy street, but there always seems to be at least temporary parking right out front to stop in and grab what you are looking for. The woman behind the counter always suggests to me that I should order in advance, and offered me a card with phone number, etc, but I am more of a last minute kind of girl, so I am willing to take what's left of the donut selection when I walk in. Looks like they may run out by mid-morning though, so order or come early! P.S. - The prices are very affordable, which is also great. read more

I had the pleasure of working with Tastease for a work event. I called them and requested several boxes of mixed donuts but for all donuts to have same design. They were more than happy to do so and had donuts ready for me day of event at 9am. Donuts were all very delicious and folks are looking forwards to seeing these mini donuts more often at work events. read more

If you want to be on a co-worker's good side, I have one bit of advice. Pick up a box of goodies from Tastease's!!! I did not go to the shop, but indulged in some mini sweets and they were sensational, especially the blueberry donut. Someone in another department at work brought them in and that was the best gift ever! They're so worth the calories! Trust me! read more

These truly are a thing of beauty. Anyone who could take the time and dedication it takes to decorate this little tiny things, in such a stunning way....well, they really are pieces of edible artwork! Hubby got us a dozen of the mini donuts (as soon as I can. i will try to upload the pics). The pictures shown above are of the 'midi' donuts which are a bit bigger. These are 2.25 inches across (yes, i just got out a tape measure!) LOL..... They are soft and tasty, the ones we got were all of the 'old fashioned' cake type donuts...Chocolate Honey Dipped, plain with chocolate or vanilla frosting and sprinkles or nonpareils, some with different swirls and such (like in the pics Ron has provided)..... They are perfectly light tasting, NOT IN THE SLIGHTEST BIT greasy! They absolutely are a perfect little snack to cure your sweet toothed craving! LOL As both the other reviewers said, the woman who owns this place is an absolute dear. Hubby said she could not be any nicer! I look forward to going there sometime myself and getting the rundown of all the flavors!!!! ps. He was there around 10am on Saturday, and there was a lot left to choose from! They probably do not sell out as early on Saturdays as they do during the week, since people are up and about earlier for going to work....BUT....Obviously, if you want the best choice, get there early! It was difficult to get a parking spot since the store only offers off-street parking... but whatevs. It's Hartford. Didn't take too long to walk over. I walked in and chatted with a man and a woman about the weather, bundling up, etc- so sweet! The shop front is modest with minimal decor and a decent eating area. I only ordered a half dozen since my H and I are in the midst of eating better (hahaha). The price for what you get is so extremely affordable. It blew my mind that half a dozen "midi" donuts were just $3 including tax. A whole dozen was a little under $6. I let the woman pick for me as I had no idea what flavor was what since there aren't any signs indicating such. I will say- the pictures on Yelp were real! The donuts are SOOOO darling! H and I didn't eat-in, but took the goods home to savor. They weren't blow-your-mind delicious (as I've had better), but considering the area in Parkville and the store's competition (Starbucks, Dunkin' Donuts and one local Hispanic bagel/donut shop), I'd rather come here. Definitely. Next time I'd like to try some of the grinders I saw available. Edit: Even after HOURS of staying on our kitchen counter, the donuts were still incredibly moist and tender. The donuts are delicious!!! Cute little things that are the perfect size so you don't feel too guilty for eating one (or two, or three...). I didn't know about the calling ahead rule, so I had to get multiple of the same type of donut in my box of a dozen. You can call in whenever--even when the store is not open-- and leave a message of how many donuts you want and what time you'd be pick it up the next day. It's a very nice little shop. The only parking available is street parking which, depending on what time you go, may present as a challenge. read more

I went out of my way (well sort of) based on the other reviews to check this place out for myself. Don't let the unassuming store front fool you; the doughnuts are amazing. From what I saw, it seems that the place is owned and run by an older married couple so this is literally a mom and pop shop! Super friendly service with a smile. If you're in the Hartford area, do yourself a solid and swing on by. You won't be disappointed. Shop small! read more

My boyfriend and I stopped on in morning for breakfast. We were in search of trying some the restaurants and bakeries that were in close proximity to our apartment. Tastease popped up and we decided to give it a try. What a great choice! We each ordered a coffee, egg & cheese, along with a variety of their donuts. The owner and her son were working at the time. She was so sweet and a pleasure to talk to while we were there. The donuts were incredible! The variety of flavors and toppings was great. The donuts are the perfect size and allow for multiple to be enjoyed. I am normally not a fan of cake donuts, but Tastease changed my opinion with my first bite. Our breakfast sandwiches were freshly made and were enjoyed hot. The coffee was your standard, but it freshly brewed and flavorful. The only downside is there is not really a lot of parking, so you are forced to find a place anywhere you can on the street. Definitely worth giving a try! read more

I have come to realize most of the donuts are the same mini donuts with different patterned and flavored frostings. Bar none, of you have not been, YOU NEED TO EXPERIENCE IT, but having been a handful of times I can contently say I'm satisfied with my current state of Tastease-less timeframe. read more

Wait...I'm giving a little donut shop FIVE STARS?!? You bet I am, because on the donut shop scale, this is as good as it gets. Tastease offers mini donuts in a ridonkulous variety of flavors, from caramel crunch and Oreo to apple pie. They taste as good as they look, and they're extremely affordable...$4.95 for a baker's dozen. And the owners were very nice and helpful, even giving me a free, just-out-of-the-oven donut to try when I mentioned it was my first time there. My only recommendation: If you think you want a dozen, get two...these go FAST once you get them home. read more

I've been looking for fun donuts to bring to my meetings and this popped right off the page! All the pictures are great and they look even more fun in person. This was my first time ever trying this donut shop so I didn't know about the calling ahead 'rule' which everyone here is describing. If I knew in advance I would have certainly taken others up on their advice. A lot of flavors, including some of the chocolate varieties that sounded like they might be good to try were sold out today. The cherry filled ones which I did order did surprise me though.. in a good way. I had never tried cherry filled donuts before since I don't really like cherries as a fruit to begin with. But they were surprisingly pretty good. There was a generous amount of filling inside, which is not always the case. So even thought I wasn't able to get the whole variety of different flavor rs which I had wanted to try, I did like the ones that were available. Prices were reasonable too, probably even a little cheaper compared to another national donut 'giant'. More than likely, I would go back. Now I know to call ahead next time! So I can try the chocolate ones next time! read more

Doughnuts are great for the look, but don't actually taste that great. The new owners were much better and the prices have sky rocketed (almost $1 per). The flavored doughnuts (ex. Red velvet) are bad at best. They have no flavor and are definitely not made with the best ingredients. There are some flavors that used to be made that they don't make anymore... especially seemingly ones that cost more to make. I wouldn't go here if you are looking for something that is a reasonable price, or that actually tastes good if you are trying to impress a group. read more

Whoa! How did I not know about this place sooner? Thanks Yelpies for putting the word out there because this place is impressive. I brought 2 dozen of these little guys to work this morning. The owner (forgot his name) and what I'm assuming is his wife (??) were there with another gentlemen. These three people must be the nicest people on earth! I told the lady that it was my first time and the owner came out of nowhere and pretty much congratulated me and then showed me what every flavor was. He then microwaved me a pancake donut. I didn't want to eat it, it was that cute. But I did. And then I fell in love. Sweet, warm, perfect texture, perfect serving size. Just amazing. The owner and the other guy looked on as I took the first bite. I think I did the crossed eyed, shoulder-bouncy maneuver that I always do when I taste perfection. They got quite the kick out of it too. These folks have mastered the donut and they know it. The red velvet and german chocolate... mmmmm. My favorites so far, because I haven't tried them all. They are almost gone at my job and I bought them a little over an hour ago. Good stuff. I have to demonstrate some self control though or I will officially be a type 2 diabetic by the end of my workday. It's sad that he's selling the place though :O( read more

Susan and Tony of Tastease are donut royalty. Although we got there late the selection was still pretty good. They had a parade in the city today so they had quite a run on the donuts. We will make it to the shop early next time to see what the entire selection looks like. Tony also said we can call ahead to make sure they still have donuts. Like many people, I have a pretty big sweet tooth and I had a craving for a really good donut. I've seen the place on Yelp and Instagram and was excited to finally try it out on my only day off. I didn't know what to expect, the place was smaller than I thought and so were the donuts. But for such a small place and mini donuts, boy did they offer such a big variety! I would define the place as small but mighty! Freshly baked and the mini donuts let you eat more than one (or justifies eating many of them). I ordered a dozen and it came out to be about 9 bucks (including tax). Their donuts are moist, soft, and so cute. Love this place, it was worth the 20 minute drive in the pouring rain! Shame the place isn't open later though! read more

I went here a while back after hearing the good reviews. It was early in the morning on a weekday and I was the only customer in the small shop. I'm accustomed to very customer-service oriented restaurants where the employee greets me first, so entering true mom-and-pop establishments can be a bit daunting for my shy self. I ordered half a dozen donuts and a small coffee. After I had purchased my order, I saw a sign behind the counter that advertised "buy a coffee and get two donuts free"- which is a fantastic deal. As far as the food goes, the coffee was a quintessential cup-o-joe, as I had expected. The donuts? I'm a little ambivalent about. The small size is perfect and toppings are enticing. However, most of the flavors were the exact same dough- a dense, cakey dough that was is not overly sweet and not my ideal donut. The ratio of donut to frosting was about 3:1. Eating the donuts were an almost laborious task of getting through the almost sour dough to the speck of sweet frosting. All that said, I did enjoy the red velvet donut which had a softer, more flavorful cake and had a nice balance with the cream cheese frosting. read more

As others have said, the popularity of this place is really taking off. I stopped by on a whim when I was in the area and there was only a box of 2 1/2 dozen left. Obviously I immediately committed to this challenge. The fact that she had anything left meant I couldn't turn it down. The owner is so sweet and next time I'll be calling ahead. The donuts themselves are adorable I *almost* didn't want to eat one to ruin the perfect display. They have just the right amount of sweetness, the cake itself is the star of the show. As a side note, the location is not the nicest neighborhood in Hartford. It certainly wouldn't deter me from going but I would't plan on hanging out at the shop itself. Overrated. This spot is iconic and makes donuts lists like in "500 Things to Eat Before it's Too Late" but these donuts were duds to me. Their schtick is very small, ornamented in 30-40 different variations. Many of these donuts are hardly different from each other (a little frosting here, a little glaze there). Regardless, the donuts were dense and generally unsatisfying. Now, if you're idea of a perfect donut is Dunkin's then this place might be good for you but for me this joint just doesn't give me the kind of donut I love. First visit here was SAT 2/22/14 & we'll DEFINITELY be back!! Not only are Tony & Susan the Sweetest people you'd ever wanna meet but the food and donuts - are OMG OMG!!! I didn't realize how popular this place is and arrived sometime after 12noon to find they only had THREE donuts left - which was perfect since there were 3 of us. I had the Cuban and my son's each had a different breakfast sandwich and Yuumm!!! You can taste the freshness of all he uses for the sandwiches (he even roasts the pork there in-house) and the Bread that Tony uses for his sandwiches is delivered fresh from a bakery in another state and all I can say is ~ WHOA!! LOVE this mom n pop place and we'll DEFINITELY be back. And ohhh Btw, you can call ahead and Tony & Susan will set aside your donut order - which is awesome & EXACTLY what I'll do next time! I've never tried the food although I heard their Cubans are great. However, I LOVE their donuts. They're my go to anytime I'm attending an event where I need to bring a food. $18/3doz cant go wrong! The donuts themselves are more cake like type of donuts (Entennman's vs Krispy Kreme) they come in a wide variety of unlisted flavors but the owners can tell you which is which. Personally I really couldn't care less about knowing because they're ALL so delicious. The owners are so friendly & so dedicated to their shop. I've been there plenty of times and haven't been helped by anyone except them, they deserve their Sundays off! My boyfriend lives in NY and he always a: me to bring them down whenever I visit or b: picks up a box when he's here. Came here for the first time today and the donuts are so good! They are moist and full of flavor. The owners are just as sweet as their donuts and warmed up a donut for my colleague and I to share. They wanted to make sure we had a great first experience and we did. The only reason why I gave them 4 stars is because I ordered the Cuban Sandwich and I was a little disappointed. I love to bring these to any event where "munchkins" would be welcome, because these donuts are super-yummy and so much more interesting and appetizing than munchkins. Sadly, they are closed on Sundays, but if I am in the area on Saturday it is definitely worth the stop. Warning: I am not convinced that it is possible to eat less than 3 of these per sitting. read more

My boss brought these donuts to our staff meeting on Thursday, and everyone loved them! They're so aesthetically-pleasing that everyone only wanted to take pictures of them and not eat them. Inevitably, we most-definitely ate them. They were quite tasty! I prefer fluffy donuts to cake donuts, but I still enjoyed these. The detail on each one was amazing! You can tell that a lot of effort goes into making these. Definitely worth the try! read more

Just wanted to post the hours are incorrect on here. Maybe they have a website where it is accurate & I didn't call before I went. Drove there and were very disappointed to find closed until August 26th (? I forget the exact date sorry) the sign on the door said. Donuts look great on here so I didn't want to ruin their rating with a bad one. I just wanted people to know about the change! Also, it's not in the best area. I wasn't concerned, but it surrounding buildings didn't seem as nice as other areas of Hartford we visited. Street parking was available when we visited (11 am weekday) read more

Make sure to call ahead to get your doughnuts. Don't worry about what your going to get just as for them to be made good. Owner is a character. Doughnuts are traditional style. Three bites each and they are what a doughnut should be. Def calling ahead for some! read more

Just a 0.6-mile walk, nbd, right? :D But on the way there I did get to see where the State Capitol was since I walked right by it. Yeah, there's a reason it's called "Capitol Street". I also didn't realize I would be walking into Frog Hollow, so that was cool, I guess. But the visit was worth the walk. The intent of coming here was so that my liver could oxidize the drinks I had earlier. Additionally, the ice cream did make me thankful the walk was longer than I had intended it to be even though I don't really know Hartford pretty much at all. I did have a sneaking suspicion I had had this before, so I looked back at my old reviews. Lo and behold, I DID have Capital Ice Cream before at the Hartford Taste Festival when I went last year and tried their Hartford Dough Down. In fact, it was one of the places I had remarked I most wanted to give an in-earnest visit to when I talked about it in that review. Because of this, I have now gone to a place in-person after first visiting their stand at a festival (I still need to do that for Sandra's Next Generation one fine day since I had their festival food the day before the historic flood of 2024). This time around I got to see a little of what the interior of the place looked like. You can find some interesting fact about Connecticut while you're there. I didn't get to take too many photos of that, but I at least got to snap myself some lore about Hartford. Apparently it's one of this nation's oldest cities, being founded in 1635. Cool stuff! I'd love to come back even if only for the lovely history. They have an outdoor area you can have your ice cream in, and an area where you can go downstairs to eat I believe. It's a bit cramped when trying to order, so something to keep in mind. Thankfully the service is great, quick and efficient. This time I nabbed myself a large key lime pie milkshake, and I HAD to go with The Force! I may not come from a galaxy far, far away, but I needed some Force goddammit! Originally I was going order the Charter Oak until I'd realized there was key lime pie ice cream and I couldn't say no to key lime pie. The Force is a chocolate ice cream with Oreo's mixed in and whipped cream on top as well as confectionery sugar. Overall, it's a definitely a great stop for ice cream lovers who want to do a CT Ice Cream Tour. I'll even go so far as to say it is a great ice cream to have when walking by the State Capitol. While I am more partial to having ice cream at harbors and sea shores (think having the ice cream on a dock while my feet dangle over the water), ice cream by a major government building is still a very beautiful thought. Of the two things I had, I would definitely say I preferred the milkshake over the sundae. I think on summer days key lime pie ice cream is more refreshing overall. But both things were very good. For hot days, this is an outstanding choice! If you're someone who loves to learn some new history, definitely come here. If you like having ice cream walking by a state capitol, this is definitely the place for you. This might not be my number-one place to have ice cream, but I definitely think this was a tasty treat that I'd be more than happy to visit again in Hartford.

The ice cream freezer had years of ice and grime built up on the inside. It was half empty and the flavors remaining were fairly mundane. We tried the most interesting looking one - a milk and cereal creation. It tasted like warm vanilla ice cream with hints of crushed up salty, stale cracker. There are lot of other places in town that offer fun desserts, so we'll go other places next time.

It would be the same thing if you'd like any additions, in exception to condiments which are on the table. There is a water dispenser available for self service and a sink is nearby to wash your hands, as well as where you can place your dishes when finished similar to cafes. My go-to is always their Dry Noodle. The Daikon Bowl is probably my second favorite. I usually look out for their specials. It's too bad they do not offer the same item too often. But they made things right by offering us something else, so we opted for a chicken quesadilla which we received for no additional charge. The quesadilla was good with a nice mix of chicken and cheese. Hi everyone....So sorry to write a very bad review but the owners are a nightmare to deal with! The shop itself is in the worst part of Hartford.I'm talking shootings and gangs.They stay there because they own the building,so they are stuck there.All they do is chain smoke in front of the shop. I stopped going because when I wanted to pick certain donuts,the owners wife had the worst attitude. Granted,I know I'm picky...love frosting,so I would look for the ones with the most.I tried to make up for that with tips and a general kindness.BUT NO...STILL THEY HAVE THE WORST ATTITUDES. When I last spoke with them,they were still trying to sell the place for 300k. Good luck with that! I now go to Sugar Shack in Manchester and/or all the cupcake spots in around town.At least I'm not treated bad anymore. read more

Hey fellow donut folks, Big surprise...they are closing.The chain smoking owners are blaming the city for raising their taxes because of the outside tables.hose tables have only been used by the owners to smoke outside,PERIOD! They also own the whole building.They have been trying to sell the place for years..even offered it to me a few years ago,when I was still a customer.Their price then: 250k...just for the donut business. No thanks! There are MANY of us us who stopped going.Read the other reviews,saying they were told NO when they wanted to pick their own flavors...gee whiz, those customers should be shot...lol Good riddance to them both. Stopped in recently when I was in the area for work. We used to be regulars when the old owners were there and we lived in CT. Surprised my family when I showed up with a box of the mini donuts we used to love and haven't had in ages. Still good but sadly not as great as before. I'm not sure if the new owners have changed the recipes at all but they just weren't quite the same and just to be sure it wasn't just me my family all agreed. If you never had them before you would of course never know the difference but I couldn't help but feel a little disappointed. read more

These are hands down the best donuts you will ever have and they are so pretty too!! Awesome mini doughnuts. Something different from your average Dunkin' Donuts. There is a large variety of choices and all doughnuts were fresh and moist. Friendly staff. Try to go early as I have heard they often sell out. Also doesn't hurt to call beforehand to make sure they are open as once I tried to go and there was a sign that they were closed for the whole week. read more

He decided to branch out and make a tiny donut shop, so we wanted to swing by and give him a try. The shop is small, designed more for your pick up and go crowd. They keep a standard selection of doughnuts on demand but also rotate out a few types to keep things fresh. As a doughnut, they are good. They are a cake doughnut with a little vanilla in the batter to give it a mellow buttery floral flavor note. Not majorly noticeable, but just enough to make it better than just straight up cake. The best bite was the strawberry shortcake. Fresh strawberries with a light whipped cream gives that flavor profile one would expect from a very solid strawberry shortcake. The rest were of varying states of okay for the toppings. The maple bacon was good, the local maple glaze was very maple forward and tasty. The bacon crumbles needed to be cooked more. They were a little too soft and chewy for that style of doughnut. The doughnuts with chocolate syrup needs a better chocolate syrup. Would probably replace with a chocolate drizzle instead. Would hold up better if not eaten immediately. Some of the glazes were not made in house, and were a bit too strong for some of the other toppings on them. They will need to figure out a way to tweak these glazes to not be overpowering. As a destination spot I would expect an elevated product, and this shop is not set up to be elevated just yet. It's set up to be a local morning doughnut place, which is valid but will need to fight to get people to see them. There's some promise to this business idea. They will need to commit to either a boutique tiny doughnut shop or a local pick up and on demand delivery spot. Either one could work, but they need to find their footing first. For those interested in trying this place, it's a good spot for a little sweet treat. Stick to the non-chocolate flavors, get enough to share, and enjoy!

So I turned the Yelp started looking at donuts spots. When perusing I saw this place had a blueberry filled doughnut, which I wanted myself. So I chose this place and it's cool cause they have a drive-through and I know that's nothing special when you're going to chain places. Most places that are not chains do not have drive-through. The blueberry diet was awesome. I got a coffee for myself and a bagel with veggie cream cheese. The bagel wasn't bad but it didn't blow me away like the blueberry doughnut. Then I got a dozen donuts and like a coffee party box that came with a ton of sugar and milk and everything you could need for a coffee station. It was a hit with the crew. My only complaint was the car that I had was a rental and it was kind of shorter so when handing the box out to me, the donut box almost spilled, and then the box with the coffee and all the accoutrements started to rip. So though the drive-through was a plus at first, it almost was the beginning to a very bad day. Trust me, I work in Paper and Paper board what you put something in is important. And there's been so many advancements in Grace barrier technology.

So being in the area, decided to come here and pick up some donuts for the ride home. We got here late in the day, and they were out of almost everything when I got there. I managed to get a churro and matcha donut. I then saw they did a Dubai chocolate strawberry cup, and had to give that a try as well ( they only do the cup on the weekends) The donuts were very fresh, light and chewy. They are high in price but much better in quality compared to other places I've tried. The Dubai strawberry cup had a kind of weak chocolate sauce over them. Not the cheapest stuff on the market, but not strong or mellow like the expensive chocolates. The strawberries were fresh, and the Dubai part needed a little salt to counteract the sweet and enhance the earthy. Inside is well decorated but dirty. All the tables were dirty, there's lots of dust and other ditritus when I was waiting for my dessert. It was end of day, so I get why they would not be fully clean. But there's some repairs that need to get done and there's cracks in the facade. Despite the lack of donuts, the quality was good and the Dubai strawberries were a nice sweet treat. This is a good place to get some interesting food items or sweet treats. Not a trek worthy spot, but good if you're around

Great texture. High quality donuts. Gerry's has a classic vibe. There are some tables and some counter seats. Everybody I saw got takeout. Service was helpful and efficient. The more recently Luke's Donuts is under new ownership and they have reshaped the donuts to a more reasonable size, not eye popping like old, but served with pride and a huge smile. I'm very happy that the new proprietor kept the same old school Donut / Sandwich Shop decor. Ambiance, '60's style stools around a winding countertop. The chocolate chip banana bread was fantastic -super fresh, super moist, bursting with banana flavor and lots of yummy chocolate chips. So asides for that clunker of a croissant, we were very happy with our other two purchases, and the sweet young lady that helpedus.
