I know these guys since they were food trucks. I used to work in Tysons Corner area and they would come very Thursday. Me and my work friends would eat here every Thursday. Lot of my other colleagues and other people form other offices in the building would eat here too. We never realized when Tasty Kabob became cult for us. Lolz. Jk. One of my work friend would stick those small green Tasty Kabob stickers on the pillar next to him & we called "Walk of Tasty Kabob". Few weeks it so happened that cops had issues with Food Truck in the area and we couldn't get our fix. It had become something we would look forward to for the week. We were so disappointed. But we ended up driving all the way to DC to get our fix. When others in our office found out, they called us & asked us to get for them too. We ended up getting 12 lunches. On my way to union station with a few co-workers on this rainy day today. We were ready to brave out the rain when I noticed the Tasty Kabob truck sitting outside the front of the building. I said "hey people, why don't we just grab food here!". There was 8 of us and we ordered a pretty large variety of food. Last time I was at the truck I remembered getting the chicken over rice with chickpeas and spinach (which as also delicious). I decided to go for something different this time and opted for the chicken pita. I was not disappointed!! This was amazing. If you are super hungry, spend the $9.00 and you'll be really satisfied with the chicken and rice platter. If you are looking for a hefty sandwich, spend the $7.00 and the chicken pita is delicious. The only thing is that I wish the Chicken Pita sandwich came with some fries or a little side of chickpeas or something. Like a small plastic containers worth to add a little variety. It had been a while since I had food from a food truck. Boy I forget how yummy they are. There are likely a number of trucks that could get me back onto twitter to stalk the elusive food trucks, but the one that just happened to be outside the door of a meeting I was in, was Tasty Kabob. There were a few people in line, but hey, that's a good sign for a food truck right? After a brief wait, some hemming and hawing about what to get, I decided on the spicy lamb kabob with both chick peas and spinach. Good choice. I thought originally that the $10 price tag was pretty steep, but when I got back to the meeting, everyone commented how good our lunches smelled, and then I opened the (unfortunately) styrofoam clamshell. It was PACKED full of goodness and I was SO hungry. I was so happy, and dug in and CRUSHED it. The food was delicious. I do think the "spicy" version could be a lot spicier, but being Korean, I have a pretty high tolerance for spicy foods. My craving for food trucks is back. I'll be looking for more of these rolling restaurants, and if this one is around, and I'm hungry, then I'll definitely hit it again. Feeling adventurous so I ventured out where the would have been ramen eating bunch would go- zeroed in the Tasty kabob food truck in the GWU campus, 22nd & I along with other good trucks like the Rolling Cow & others. I was planning to grab lunch from Whole Foods when I got stuck and curiously followed the lines to the food truck. I was torn between this and the Rolling Cow but halal won this time. Not as good as the halal food that don along 5th Ave & 53rd Midtown NY so 3 stars was appropriate. This place is A-OK. The customer service was friendly and quick. I got the spicy chicken over salad with spinach and chickpeas. The cook of the chicken was well executed, but the flavor could have been bolder. This place is middle eastern, so perhaps it uses turmeric, which has a muted flavor profile. Nonetheless, it looked much more flavor packed than it actually was, but it was decent enough to get me by. The salad is relatively default with some onion and a couple of big tomato slices. The chickpeas were in a sauce that tasted kind of like spaghetti o's sauce and somewhat ordinary. You get a nice size portion for $9. It won't knock your socks off, but it's a solid eat if you want to keep it simple. read more

Good value and tender meat for a food truck, and friendly customer service compared to other nearby trucks in the rain. Sampled the lamb, which I couldn't see being appropriate outside of a gyro. Salad greens were fresh and sliced awkwardly long. Chicken was better than what I've had at some brick and mortar places. Beef meatballs shouldn't be missed: juicy and flavorful, not at all dense. Definitely surpassed my expectations. Granted, I've only eaten from this food truck once, but it was absolutely delicious, and though I thought the price was a little high for what I was expecting, my $9 order in a styrofoam box was a ton of food - enough to feed me for a total of three meals! That's $3/meal (obviously)! On their recommendation, I ordered the lamb & rice, and despite the menu board saying it came with "salad and choice of side," they just asked me which two sides I wanted, which I appreciated because it's a rare day when salad's my first choice for anything. I asked for their two favorites, and they gave me chickpeas and spinach. All three elements of the meal - the lamb, chickpeas, and spinach - were awesome. Spicy, lots of great sauce, and really alive with flavors, even when covered in liberal squirts of their white sauce (I'd probably request this on the side next time). I don't know what to order next time, because I'd be hard pressed not to get all three items again (the spinach was especially remarkable), but the 3-for-3 score also makes me eager to taste test other stuff. Tasty Kabob is one of my favorite food trucks and I end up eating here at least once a week. The food truck scene is oversaturated with kabob trucks, but Tasty Kabob has one thing working in their favor: consistency. I can always expect a good meal at a reasonable price that always has me going back for more. As far as food trucks go, I credit them for branching out and maintaining multiple trucks because there's usually at least one within a reasonable walking distance from my office. Tasty Kabob doesn't try to be authentic, and it's pretty apparent in their menu offerings. They're not competing with Ravi Kabob or Kabob Palace so comparing Tasty Kabob to those two places isn't exactly apples to apples. The items on the menu are pretty standard and much more mild than what you would get at a more authentic kabob place. The equipment necessary to make the types of kabobs sold at Pakistani and Afghan places would be pretty difficult using a food truck, so it makes sense for Tasty Kabob to keep things mild. Despite the lack of spiciness in their kabobs, Tasty Kabob manages to keep lots of flavor in their food. Of the everyday menu offerings, I'm a big fan of the lamb over rice, extra-spicy with white sauce generously poured on top. The lamb is really flavorful and goes well with the rice and chickpeas; I've tried the mixed veggies and spinach on the side, but would highly recommend the chickpeas over both. Also, I noticed the salad on the side is always crispy and fresh, which is always nice. In addition to the lamb, I would recommend the meatball kabobs on Wednesdays and the chicken with mushrooms on Fridays. The chicken and mushrooms are definitely worth trying at least once. You want authentic kabobs? Go to Ravi Kabob. You want some good, flavorful ethnic food that is Afghan/Pakistani/Middle Eastern-inspired for roughly the same cost as a sandwich and soda? Had this at the Cherry Blossom event and I was NOT impressed. I think I compare any kabob place to Ravi's Kabob. The chickpeas tasted bland and they dumped this sauce in our order even when we asked not to have it...and this guy behind us ordered with no sauce and yet this still manage to dump it on his too. The lamb & rice weren't bad just didn't like so much sauce in our food. So if you not a sauce person make sure to ask them to go lightly or none at all. I've seen them around 20 Mass Ave during lunch times and always have long lines, maybe I'll give them a try when they don't have 20+ people waiting in line. read more

I sent my boyfriend to buy me some yummay lunch from the Bulgogi Cart, but alas, it was not there. Tasty Kabob, however, WAS. So, I thought -- why not? We had actually seen it drive in front of us a few days earlier. So, we both got a lamb/chicken and rice combo. He had a side of chickpeas and I had the spinach. Unfortunately, I did not think either sides were too good -- both were not as flavorful as they could be and actually tasted strangely similar. The meat, however, was pretty good. They poured the yogurt sauce over it (but not too much, thankfully) and it sat on a bed of long-grained rice. The meats were tender and flavorful and I actually really enjoyed the lamb (not usually a lamb eater!). The portions were also quite generous so that I ate it for 3 meals! I wasn't overly impressed, but at the same time I was satisfied. After an eventful night of clubbing in DC, Tasty Kabob was sitting outside of Current off Connecticut Avenue and seemed like the most delicious thing to eat at 2AM. We ordered the chicken and rice, which came with salad, chickpeas, spinach, rice. The portion was big enough for my boyfriend and I to share. There wasn't enough sauce on the chicken, (the actual chicken was delicious though!) the spinach was salty and the chickpeas were a lot more soggier than I'm used to. There was a generous amount of bismati rice as well. It seems like the lamb overthrows the chicken, so I'll try that next time if I get the opportunity to try this truck again. read more

I am a bit of a kabob snob, so I am actually surprised that I love Tasty Kabob lamb. TK's lamb is made of finely ground lamb that is then chopped. The ground meats at kabob trucks are usually far inferior to actual cubed lamb...but there is something about this that makes it the exception. I was so hyped up to see the Tasty Kabob truck on the street today that I whipped out my $9 for my chicken with rice platter. I opted for the sides of chick peas and potatoes (I usually get spinach.) and honestly, I was underwhelmed. The plate wasn't bursting with food like it usually was and what's up with the red food dye for the chicken? It looked like I was eating twizzler colored chucks of chewy chicken. The potato was flavorless chalky potatoey blah. The chick peas were an orangy yellow, but tasted decent. The rice with the medium hot sauce was the saving grace. I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of food and how tasty it was, but a small part of me winced at the price tag of $10, since the price rose $1. The other parts of me were stuffed full at the gills. I tried the lamb over rice with a side of spinach, while SX opted for chicken over rice with a side of chickpeas. The lamb wasn't chunks of lamb meat, but rather more of a gyro-meat like concoction. So, in that aspect, I probably would have preferred chicken (since it's chunks of chucken) over the lamb, as it's much more juicier option. The salad had definitely seen better days, a bit wilty and turning color. So, if possible, opt for 2 vegetable sides if they will allow it. The vegetable sides stand out the most, being flavor packed, cooked well, and tasty. Overall easy to eat in the streets if there's a bench nearby. read more

I visit the Truck when it is on the GW campus for lunch! It's my favorite treat. Recently when I walked up to the window one of the guys knew my order - Small 1/2 chickpeas 1/2 spinach with hot sauce and no white sauce. At first I was pleased, but as I sat down to enjoy my food I started thinking, am I am in a Tasty Kabob rut? Do I need to mix things up? When I am more hungry I do get the salad with meat or meat over rice. I've never had anything I didn't like!! Don't be worried to ask to have different combo's of what they are offering, they are always willing to make you happy. Tasty kabob is tasty, as advertised. The lamb is juicy and pretty flavorful, although a friend's chicken was an even bigger hit. You can get it over salad with yogurt and hot sauces (I recommend both). Good, if not mind-blowing. The only exception are the vegetable sides-- chickpeas and spinach-- neither of which were that good. They were both cooked competently but they were very bland. They could have used salt, pepper, hot sauce, all of the above, or something else. It was as if they were attending the meal out of obligation. YUM! I had returned from a trip to food no man's land, and on the way home from the airport I spotted Tasty Kabob. Fearing the food situation in my fridge after a week away I grabbed some chicken over salad with spinach. First off - it was a really pretty meal, bright yogurt dill sauce over red chicken. I ordered it medium spiciness and I was happy with the level of heat (I like my food pretty spicy). The pita was really yummy, I liked how it was grilled with crispy bits on it. The only thing that fell flat for me was the sauteed spinach - although, honestly, I'm not sure I've ever had this done particularly well. One word - LAMB! Guys...believe me when I say that the lamb served from this food truck is highly likely to be the BEST you'll ever taste. It's VERY tender and the seasoning is spot on! I mean...it's "good golly miss Molly" kinda good! The chicken alone caused me to dock them one star. The first time I ordered from this truck, I had the lamb and chicken combo with spinach, rice and chickpeas. I tasted the lamb first (nom nom!) and the chicken second...um...no "nom nom" for the chicken! It was sort of on the dry side and the flavor was not up to par. Needless to say...I never ordered the chicken again. The spinach is notably good and the chickpeas and rice are rather tasty. You can't go wrong with either! I recommend getting both the white sauce and the red/spicy sauce spread all over EVERYTHING. The big green machine was parked in front of l'enfant metro as I was heading in so I decided to give it a try. The guy in the truck, super nice and friendly! I ordered the Lamb and rice with the spinach and chick peas. YUMMMMMM the lamb was cooked perfectly. So tender it melted in your mouth. The rice and chick peas were nicely seasoned and the tzatziki sauce was a refreshing treat on my mini salad. The spinach was a tad bitter but when u mix it with the chick peas and rice u can't really taste it. It is not as spicy as I would like but i guess they are attempting to cater to the masses. I'm making a point to try every kabob truck on town (or anyone that parks within a 15 minute walk off my office). While they all offer almost exactly the same thing, the variance in quality is amazing. Tasty Kabob is one of the few trucks which adds sides to the mix (spinach, okra, potatoes and chickpeas). Unfortunately the sides are super oily and taste like they have been sitting around for quite awhile. The sauce they use is also very mayo-flavored, rather than the yogurt norm. Stopped by the Green Truck on my way in to DC the other day...the distracted girl wasn't paying a damn bit of attention to my "lamb gyro, spicy, no onion." I look in not four seconds later and there are onions going all over my sandwich. What the hell? "Um, if that's mine, I said NO onions." Scrape, scrape, pick, scrape. "But you DO want tomatoes?" I never said anything about tomatoes. YES. "Eight dollars." It was seven dollars as recently as, like, this morning. At least I thought it was. To be fair, I eat at a pant-load of füd trucks and my memory gets a little jumbled. Anyway I get to my truck and open up the container. Where's that Nerf-sized football I am used to shoving past my soup coolers? This thing is shrinking in front of me like Manti Teo's NFL prospects. The hell? Oh, and DC traffic just really blows like a five-dollar whore at the docks on a pay-day Friday night when the fleet is in. Why does everyone drive SO slow, SO scared, and SO oblivious to their surroundings? I was very upset with this food truck only because I waited in line 20 mins to get my food I paid $9.00 and the food wasn't what I expected. The chicken itself was moist and juicy, but the vegetables were mushy and there was a ranch sauce all over the chicken....I don't know what it is and it was warm because the temperature on the chicken was warm it didn't seem to mix well in my mouth. I didn't even try the salad after the chicken didn't go over well I was upset with the whole meal and decided to throw it out. Tasty kabob indeed. I got the lamb and rice which comes with the aforementioned lamb over rice with a small side salad and choice between spinach and chickpeas on the side all for $9. The lamb was very tasty, the rice was good, the spinach was okay, not great but not bad. Overall it's a pretty good value. Next time, I think I may just opt for the $6 gyro though. My previous 3 star review for the chicken still stands. This 2 star review is for the Lamb & Rice. The lamb...oh boy...honestly, it had the texture of a sponge or extra firm tofu. Each bite was cringe worthy. The taste resembled sausage and I was not a fan. Chickpeas were as I remembered them before. I also tried the spinach and was not a fan of it either. My coworker and I had a horrible lunch experience which included TWO places being closed and another with a long line.. to our delight, we saw the Tasty Kabob truck on M street and although the line seemed daunting at first, it went quickly. I got a lamb gyro and it is delicious. I'm literally eating it right now as I review this place - that's how good it is. Only tip - if you don't like dill, request to leave the sauce off. Update 05/27/16: The food is still delicious, but the price has gone up which I expected/am fine with after the styrofoam ban, but now we get these flimsy plastic boxes that hold less food. Normally I can eat off this for two days, now I'm full with none left over. And it's not the first time someone didn't fully understand my order bc I prefer chickpeas on my rice with chicken and spinach on the side. Still the Simply put, I absolutely LOVE this food truck and the food is delicious, reasonably priced, friendly staff and quick service. Finally a decent food truck! I have yet to find one in DC that doesn't substitute quality for quick service. I would say it's comparable to the Halal Guys from NYC. They give you a ton of food for your buck. I kept it simple with chicken over rice and a ton of white sauce. Chickpeas and salad were decent sides. To "celebrate" getting above freezing, my co-worker and I decided to venture to the food trucks at L'Enfant Plaza for lunch. Apparently, everyone in this part of town had the same idea because it was hopping. After walking around and looking over the offerings of the different trucks, I decided on Tasty Kabob. I chose them because they had the shortest line (not always a good thing, but I was in a hurry today). The staff was really friendly and explained their menu. They have sandwiches, platters with rice or salad, and a few other things too. I chose the Lamb platter with rice. My sides were spinach and chick peas. They were also accommodating in asking my level of spicy (I went with mild). My food came out fairly quickly and smelled amazing! The lamb was really tender and flavorful, rice was good and the sides were decent. My only major FYI is that they placed the sauce on top of my kabob. Had I known, I would have asked for it in a separate container or on the side. It's not a huge thing, but I would have liked tasting the lamb by itself first. read more

Anyone who knows me will tell you that I'm not a lunch-truck aficionado - mainly because so few of them serve my favorite (meatloaf), and tubemeats and sausages aren't my thing. Plus, the variance in food handling make it a Russian roulette for my gentle stomach. It's more of a spectator sport for me, so I go along for the sights and smells more than anything else. But one of my buddies actually managed to coax me into trying Tasty Kabob's combination (chicken and lamb) platter. The chicken was - disappointingly - all dark meat, and the lamb was a bit gristly for my taste; still, the portions were large enough so I managed to eat around the less desirable pieces. These came on a bed of spiced rice which in hindsight might've been better as plain - there was too much going on with flavors. I opted for the boiled chickpeas as a side, and asked the vendor to add a slice of pita bread (one of the measures by which I assess kebab-worthiness), which was deliciously soft and warm. The cucumber dressing was tangy and lovely. I might've given this experience a 2.5 but to be fair, I don't really have a baseline of other truck-cart lunch experiences with which to compare this, and it'd be completely wrong to judge it against my favorite, Moby Dick House of Kabob (this isn't Persian). Plus, the vendor was a really nice lady who went out of her way to indulge and adjust to my little customization requests. All in all, this was a pretty good call for a cheap street food lunch -- a sight better than the office cafeteria on a lovely sunny day, and no bullet ever did hit my gut. read more

Compared to other kabob trucks, this one was overpriced. It seems like Tasty Kabob will charge different prices depending on the area. I paid $10 for a chicken and rice platter. I got a carton full of chicken thigh meat, rice, chick peas and a wilted salad... and just like other DC kabob food trucks, they have the nerve to combine a yogurt or dill sauce with Louisiana hot sauce and call it spicy kabob sauce. If you don't want it slathered all over your food, you better tell them to put it on the side. I'm not impressed by this and will not return. If I thought the food was great, I would gladly pay the money. Ten bucks is a steal compared to most Afghan or Indian Kabob places. But Not for the food on this truck. read more
