I visited Suncoast Primate Sanctuary after finding it on Groupon. I learned that it used to be a…read moreroadside attraction where people could buy monkeys and take them home, but it has since become a rescue and retirement sanctuary. Each primate has a story, and while many of them are sad, I'm grateful there is now a safe place where they are cared for. The volunteers were kind, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about the animals. The visit was emotional and a bit depressing at times, but that's to be expected given the nature of a rescue sanctuary. I still strongly encourage people to support this place and the important work they do. One tip: wear bug spray -- I ended up with quite a few bites on my legs.

It is one of those spots you can spend a while exploring and still notice new things each time you visit. Definitely a 5 star experience and a must visit if you are anywhere near Safety Harbor.
