Tate's has given my daughter her love of learning back. As a parent, I was not a proponent of "private is better than public." In fact, I originally felt strongly that my daughter would benefit more in her understanding of the world if she attended public school, which she did the first two years of elementary school. What I hadn't anticipated with public school, however, was how the teachers were stretched too thin with large classes, and how the introduction of the Common Core made learning a rigid march toward the test. Although my daughter was a top student, she was miserable and cried nearly every morning. She began to hate school and started to lose interest in subjects that she'd once loved. I didn't want this to be the foundation of her education. She began 2nd grade at Tate's, and the shift was almost immediate. The teachers are creative and believe learning should be fun, even magical. They believe kids learn better when their days include movement and fresh air. And in no way are the kids "coddled," which I think is a common misperception of private schools (one I admittedly had). My daughter has been encouraged to challenge herself with a "growth" mindset, meaning each lesson or challenge is an opportunity for discovery. Her enthusiasm for learning returned quickly, and she continues to flourish while now in 3rd grade at Tate's. During the second week of school this year, she hopped out of the car one morning with a big smile and said, "I wonder what's going to happen today!" That sums it up--Tate's fosters the curiosity, the willingness, for life-long learning. I can't say enough about this school--from the administration, the teaching staff, the other students, the fun campus. We have two (soon-to-be three) kids in the elementary school at Tate's. We did one year of our local public school and decided we needed to try something else. Tate's has been amazing for our family. We drive 30+ minutes twice a day just because it's that great. As mentioned in reviews on other platforms, they focus on kids who generally fit within a wide range of "average" - just meaning that if you have a child that needs a very specific learning environment, this might not be the best fit. I actually appreciate that they are upfront about that. That said, the school is NOT average. We found them to be much more challenging academically than our public school and the smaller environment allows them to be creative and innovative in how they teach and approach learning. I didn't even know my son had a standardized test coming up until ~2 weeks ahead of time because they teach the content towards instilling a love of learning, focusing on conceptual understanding rather than teaching towards checking off a list of what content needs to be covered. Everything advertised about focusing on outdoors is true in our experience. We plan on staying through middle school! read more

Tates School has been fantastic for both of our kids. My daughter is in her 5th year there and my son in his 4th year. The stuff these kids learn is amazing but more than that is how they learn it. The faculty make a point of using the 52 acre campus to make learning fun, interactive and hands-on. For instance, the 4th graders have a garden they take care of all year and even bring home some of the vegetables they grow. My daughter was so happy and proud when I made dinner using the onion she grew at school. With the small class size, kids at Tates School get a lot of individualized attention so if they need a little extra help with something, the teacher is available to do so rather than not having time because she is dealing with 30+ kids. Every teacher seems to know every kid, not just the ones in her particular class, because every single teacher there truly cares about kids and teaching in general. My kids love school so much they spend the entire summer asking me when they can go back to school because they miss it so much. That, in and of itself, makes every penny of the tuition we pay worth it. read more

My (now 16 year old) son attended Tate's from K-5th grade, and it was the best possible experience that we could have given him. Those very important first years gave him a solid foundation for middle school. He absolutely LOVED Tate's. Wow! My family LOVES Tate's. The teachers are outstanding. The facilities are second to none. The curriculum is one of a kind and my child is thriving! My 4 year old loves going to school every day!
