They have a small beer garden to the rear, there is also seating out the front facing out onto Altrincham old market square, most of the buildings here are some of the oldest in the town. They have a pretty standard bar selection, prices are around average. One gripe - unless you're a seasoned pro, I'd avoid the poker tables, things can get serious and a little heated, nothing too major, just the odd raised voice. But these are off to one side and can be easily avoided if you're just coming to play pool. A fun night out.

Its a great place to go and observe the 'mutton-dressed-as-lamb' on a saturday night attemptiong to strut their stuff on the dance floor - most amusing!

But where better to seven-ball your brother, or completely miscue and hit the white off the table towards your fourth pint, than Rileys. I could easily spend a weekend here, shooting pool and sinking beer, if my puny bank balance would allow. There's an array of pool tables, and a few snooker tables for the hardcore, to choose from, US and English. The cues are a better standard than you'll find in any pub, and the baize, while not Crucible standard, is usually in pretty good nick too. It almost invariably proves cheaper than playing anywhere else, unless you're with someone extremely slow, as you can play for an hour for just over £6. Riley's often has offers on too, so you can get 3 hours for the price of 2. Even though I'm a bit of a chubber there's normally adequate room for queuing, but if it's particularly busy and the balls dictate you sometimes have to wait for a second to allow someone else to take a shot. TV's showing the latest sports results/matches are a bonus.

Situated on Chester Road just by Manchester FC train station, The Trafford is the first one of the big Manchester United pubs you will come across. Its got two rooms, one a huge normal pub area, and the other a square room, which looks a lot like a dance floor, with a smaller bar for bottled beers only. This in not a dance floor but a chant floor, where Manchester United fanatics gather before each game to shout and sing the classic United songs. Drinks are expensive of course, but they are the same everywhere on match day at around £3. They also have some amazing facilities for pouring beers very very fast in large quantities, so check it out. Going here are to the other two pubs (see Yelp) is a really important part of going to see Manchester United play, so don't skip it!
