I've been going here for years. The Food has always been exceptional , the finest Greek food available anywhere! The service is as Bad as the Food is good! The last two times I've gone with my family and ordered the special for 4 or more at $45.00 a head. They bring you every Greek specialty in different platters(Dips, Meats, appetizers, seafood, etc) which is excellent and always plenty to take home. The first time the waiter didn't just have time and wants you in and out but had plenty of time to add an 18% gratuity ($55.00) before pushing us out. This week we went for my daughter's birthday (mentioned, received nothing but again that gratuity over $50) Food was excellent, never saw the waiter, big platters of food that we all shared out of dessert plates for each of us, the food kept coming , the plates were never changed to a dinner plate, we had our whole dinner on dessert plates, food all over the table (2 small children) never cleaned up, I asked for more napkins and a stack of thin cocktail napkins were put on our table. Needless to say I will never go back foe their 'delicious ' food or service or $350 check. read more

Went here for my birthday celebration because I wanted a different dinner! EVERY SINGLE DISH we had was AMAZING. I don't say this lightly. I would rate the FOOD 10 stars if it was possible. The calamari, Greek salad, chicken kebab, steak kebab, shrimp appetizer, and drinks were out of this world phenomenal. Someone I was with also mentioned that the roast chicken is the best roast chicken they have ever had in their lives. As for the ambience, if you choose to be inside during the bellydancing show- be prepared to be overstimulated and not be able to hear anything that your table was saying to you. Make sure you're in the mood for extremely loud music and chaos all over. if you're in the headspace, it's a great time! If you're not in the mood for the madness, eat outside! The most authentic Greek waterfront restaurant in Hollywood. I've been coming here for about 8 years, and while some things have changed over time, the food is still delicious. The chicken kebab with rice and potatoes is perfect, the branzino is amazing, and the Greek salad is one of the best I've had. I also love all of their appetizers. We always bring visiting family and friends to Taverna Opa because it truly represents a fun and authentic part of Florida. The atmosphere is very romantic in the evening--one of my first dates with my husband was here. They offer valet parking for about $5. I came here for Christmas dinner with my boyfriend and we were quite excited to do Greek, since we rarely do. We were sat outside which was nice, but in a high traffic area. Someone was passing our table every 10 seconds. Usually with their backside inches from my food. Our server was Vlad and he was good to start, but as the dinner progressed...he became more interested in other tables. The Aphrodite punch was a very weak drink. It tasted like a punch with very little alcohol. The tzatziki was amazing loved it. I didn't like having to order pita on the side, it should be included. The pita was tasty too. Our entrees needed a lot of work. Our food was cold. I felt like we waited a while for food anyway, so I assume the food was just sitting in the kitchen getting cold. Also, the presentation was quite messy. Now my beef tenderloin kabob was a disaster. I wanted a well done kabob, but Vlad insisted I get it medium well. While I can do some pink...I can't do red. When I got my cold beef kabob, it was rare on the inside. It was at the most medium-rare! The food tasted good, but the temperature and lack of attention to the order ruined it. So much for a nice Christmas dinner. Vlad came to "check on us" and saw I only ate the outter bits. By checking on us he just confirmed we got the food and walked away. Incredible food, disappointing seating, and lackluster service Taverna Opa came highly recommended -- both by people we spoke with and all over social media. Unfortunately, the vibe didn't live up to the hype -- but the food absolutely did. We were seated in a small side room adjacent to the main dining area. I was immediately disappointed, as we couldn't see or hear the entertainment, which is a big part of what makes this restaurant special. We asked to be moved and were told "no" by the main hostess, who seemed unfriendly and somewhat rude. We were reassured that the entertainers would spend time in our section -- they never did. Meanwhile, the main dining room looked like a party, and we felt like we were watching it from backstage. On top of that, our room backed up to the kitchen service line, so there was constant foot traffic from staff running food to the rest of the restaurant -- not exactly the ambiance we were hoping for. Service from our waiter was also disappointing. I ordered a martini that clearly didn't taste right and mentioned it -- it was ignored completely and sat untouched at the edge of our table all night. I needed a water refill before my food arrived, and was still waiting after I finished eating. Luckily, my husband shared his. Whether our server was overwhelmed or just inattentive, it made the experience feel impersonal. That said, the food was fantastic. They bring out warm bread with hummus you smash yourself -- a fun and tasty touch. I had the steak kabobs with lemon potatoes and rice pilaf. The steak and potatoes were flavorful and perfectly cooked, though I didn't love the rice. My husband had the gyro platter, which only comes as a beef-lamb mix (he would've preferred lamb only), but he still thought it was great. Final thoughts: Taverna Opa has amazing food and an energetic atmosphere -- if you're seated in the right place. But between the dismissive hostess, inattentive service, and being tucked away from the action, the experience didn't match the buzz. Unfortunately, they were out of all the fish options we wanted, and the only one available was the sea bass which we did order, and to be fair, it was very yummy. Very good. A bunch of colleagues were out for a series of meetings and we wanted to get out of the hotel diplomat and try some local cuisine. We heard some good words about this location and it wasn't far from the hotel so off the 10 of us went. It's a lively atmosphere. The staff was super friendly continuously making sure your dinner and experience. We're going well. Waiters were always filled up water, drinks were always offered, and needs were attended to. We sat in the front room. In the back room, we caught belly dancing and partying going on. It was fun to watch. Regarding the food, we all got something different.I thought my meal was terrific, I ordered the dressed pork souvlaki dinner. You built your own meal here with 3 soft shell tacos, souvlaki, lettuce, tomato, and their sweet yogurt dressing. Along with the meal comes a pile of fries. Located in Hollywood, Taverna Opa sits on the intracoastal waterway with great views on one side and Hollywood Beach on the other. It was fairly empty so we were seated quickly. They bring you a mortar & pestle of garlic chickpeas to grind and although it didn't taste how we imagined, the experience of making hummus was a nice touch. Once again, I came in on my yearly trip to south Florida, and I was not disappointed. Taverna opa is always accommodating for a walk in even though they are always jam packed with customers. Tonight we had a Greek salad and gyro and pork souvlaki. The Greek salad is authentic and not to be missed. The tomato and cucumber and olive oil and feta, the flavors are magnificent, the overall dish is fresh and flavorful, you simply cannot go wrong with this traditional Greek salad. We had pork and gyro souvlaki respectively. The pork was tender and cooked perfectly. The gyro was good, but it did have some overcooked aspects on the gyro meat. Regardless, still quite tasty and worth the eat. There are belly dancers inside for your entertainment, dancing on the tables with guests, and the overall atmosphere is that of a plaka in Greece. Old school ways and authentic food and great service. Taverna opa will remain a staple of my yearly dining when in south Florida. read more

I've celebrated my birthday at Taverna Opa before and even brought my best friend back the following month to celebrate hers because we had such a great time. The atmosphere is fun and lively, which is why I chose to host my birthday there again last night with 12 guests. Unfortunately, this experience completely changed my view of this place. From the beginning, service was off. We waited almost 40 minutes for water at the table -- on my birthday -- after asking at least 10 times. It shouldn't take nearly an hour and repeated reminders just to get water, especially for a large party. When it came time for my birthday cake, things became even more disorganized. We asked multiple times for staff to take the cake to the back, and it sat at the table for about 20 minutes before anyone handled it. When it was finally brought out, there were no plates and no knife to cut it. Again, we had to ask repeatedly. For a restaurant that markets itself as a celebration spot, this felt chaotic and poorly managed. Additionally, after dinner, a couple of my friends expressed that they felt uncomfortable with how our server, Georgie, was interacting with them. They described him as being overly handsy and crossing personal boundaries in a way that made them uneasy. That was upsetting to hear, especially on what was supposed to be a fun birthday celebration. The biggest issue, however, was the billing. When I arrived, Georgie asked if we'd be doing family style. I said yes -- but clearly stated only HALF of the table would be participating. We physically counted the 12 guests together, and I specifically said six people would be doing family style. I had planned this dinner in advance and knew exactly who would and would not be eating. My roommate and I intentionally ate beforehand so we could just drink and celebrate. What I did not realize is that they served and charged family-style meals for all 12 guests. Since I wasn't eating and wasn't monitoring what was being brought out, I had no reason to believe they doubled the order. At the end of the night, I had somewhere urgent to be. Because gratuity was already added for a large party, I didn't have to sign anything -- I handed over my card, got it back, and left without carefully reviewing the itemized bill in that moment. The next morning, when I reviewed the receipt, I saw I was charged $540 for 12 family-style meals instead of six. I calmly called the restaurant to explain the situation. The manager, Gabby, returned my call. From the start, her tone was dismissive and condescending. Instead of listening or asking clarifying questions, she repeatedly spoke over me and immediately stated there was "nothing they could do." She insisted that Georgie told her we agreed to 12 family-style meals, which is not what happened. She even said she was going to "check the cameras," as if security footage in a loud, packed restaurant would somehow confirm what was verbally discussed at the table. It felt more like an attempt to shut down the conversation than to resolve it. Gabby also brought up that my original reservation was for 25 people but only 12 showed up -- which has absolutely nothing to do with charging me for food I did not agree to order. When I explained that I had carefully planned the headcount and confirmed six meals, she sarcastically referenced that I had said I was a "good planner," in a way that felt mocking and unprofessional. It felt less like a professional review of a billing concern and more like being talked down to and dismissed. Between the poor service throughout the night, guests feeling uncomfortable, and a $540 overcharge that management refused to properly review, the entire experience was extremely disappointing. After getting nowhere with management, I've had to explore other avenues to address the charge. I've celebrated multiple birthdays here and brought friends because of past positive experiences. Waterfront with Greek isles vibes. Hostess was friendly over the phone. We went when it was not very busy. Best Greek I have had in Broward by far. Gives mandolin a run for their money.. I may have even liked it better and it is much more accessible. The meat was so succulent and marinated perfectly. Decent price for a platter for two with big thick pieces of beef tenderloin. The feta atop the fresh Greek salad with juicy tomatoes, perfectly oiled with a vinegar bite made the Greek salad worth it. I enjoy coming here, it's always fun, especially with the belly dancers who perform at your table and put on a show! This past Saturday night, I visited with family who were in town for my birthday. We were seated near the window with a great view of the entire restaurant and outside over looking the water and boats passing by. We ordered a mix of appetizers and main courses, which arrived relatively quickly. The main dishes came out while we were still working on our appetizers. The tables here can get crowded pretty fast, especially since the place is often packed. With limited space, we had to move things around to make everything fit, but the food was fantastic, fresh, flavorful. The service was excellent, our server made some good recommendations. At the end of our meal, we requested a slice of Nutella cheesecake and baklava, taking advantage of the Yelp check-in offer for 2-for-1 desserts. Both were delicious and moist! Although our server wasn't aware of the Yelp deal, he had to confirm with 2 people it was a legit thing. There were a couple of issues that affected our experience. First, the restroom situation was less than ideal. The stalls were quite dirty, with no toilet paper available. Knowing how busy the restaurant was, I would expect restrooms to be checked and cleaned more often, especially on a super busy night. Additionally, there was a large group of underage girls celebrating a birthday. At one point, they completely took over the restaurant, dancing on nearly every available table. I understand this place turns into more of a nightclub vibe some nights, this was excessive. These girls were wearing extremely short skirts, jumping on tables, and dancing in a way that felt inappropriate, especially with families and couples trying to enjoy their meals. I even spoke to a few of the girls in the restroom, only to discover they had been drinking, with alcohol apparently given by the mom who brought them. Many of the servers seemed aware of this, but whether any action was taken, I can't say. The unruly behavior and lack of supervision seemed to have impacted the atmosphere and is the main reason I'm giving only 3 stars. I'll likely return because the place is beautiful, lively, and always has great food and service. I just hope management can better handle situations like these in the future to ensure everyone can enjoy the experience. read more

Finally we were able to visit this restaurant and enjoyed the Greek cuisine. We were impressed by the hospitality of our Greek server. He made quite of an impression for attentiveness and service. The restaurant has outdoors seating and the views of the waterfront are just lovely. As for the dishes we tried the Opa Cold Pikilia Sampler, delicious and very savory dolmades, olives and my favorite was the fresh hummus and tzatziki sauce. We also tried the crispy calamari and the Mediterranean Salad with grilled salmon, every bite was very savory. The salmon was perfectly cooked and the calamari was crispy and tasted very fresh and delightful. We couldn't wait to return to try more dishes, Greek coffee and dessert! For any cultured human being, you know damn well Taverna Opa is far from traditional Greek. You've got deafening middle eastern music (DJ included) playing, a Colombian belly dancer bringing others to join her on the table, cocktail napkins being thrown at her, and kids running around to stick dollar bills in her bra. I was surprised there weren't CO2 machines and confetti being launched from the ceiling. For anyone looking for romance, authenticity, or just to have a decent conversation or to hear yourself think, stay far far away from Taverna Opa. The place is sprawling with large parties and patrons squeezed tightly together. I could literally reach my hand over to the next table if I wanted to to grab a slice of pita. The food took forever to order and arrive and the waiters were easily frustrated by the demands. read more
