Family vacation in Italy…read morebrought me to Bari area and after 7 hour drive from southern Italy in September my family and I checked into a cute hotel and asked for restaurant recommendations--it was a Thursday evening in September and there was not many places available. Side note--locals tend to eat a late dinner so a lot of Italian restaurants open late (this one I believed opened at 7:30pm). It's a little more upscale than the others I had seen. For instance, the other restaurants in area offer a "menu touristico" which is pretty much a 3-course meal at a set price. This location was mainly a la carts and although prices were higher they weren't terribly high. We spent about €80 for dinner for five people which included beer and sparkling water. The ambiance looks classy and upscale (we felt a little underdressed)--service was decent. Food had mixed reviews. Portions looked small but I felt were pretty filling. The good comments on food were that the sauce in pasta tasted very fresh and the pasta (which was handmade) was also very good. So so comments were that some of the dishes were too salty. Personally I had the spaghetti with olives and sausage so that's the only one I can truly speak to--the pasta was perfectly al dente (which I find hard to do at home with spaghetti) the sauce resembled fresh crushed tomatoes and not watery or oily at all. I don't eat olives that much but I think that's what made the dish salty for my Dad who ordered the same thing. The sausage is crumbled sausage and is mixed into sauce. If your looking for white glove experience type dinner then check this place out.

We were a big group of 60 people there in July and the Hotel took care of us very well. The bedrooms are big, spacious, well laid out and have a very attractive interior. The interior lobby of the Hotel is a single large area which stretches from one end of the Hotel to the other with reception, concierge, a bar, lounge and various zones for seating and a grand piano. Not only is it practical but it is a single large area which is cleverly laid out and the ambience is attractive with lovely furniture and a very pleasant interior which has very good decor. The interior all feels fresh and new. It is in fact a very beautiful Hotel! Our meals were also very tasty as well as filling and even the dining area/room is a well designed and attractive. It looks out to the swimming pool. We were happy with the prices too! There is an outdoor swimming pool next to the dining area. The Hotel is divided into two buildings with access by a transparent overhead tunnel which joins one part to the rest of the building. There is accommodation in both parts of the Hotel, but the accommodation in the 'main' part is probably more convenient. I will not forget the large heavy keyring they provide for each room-key; it is large and heavy so you do not miss or lose it! All of our group really enjoyed our stay here and it was a great Hotel. This is certainly my favourite Hotel ever! The family who own and run the Hotel used to own and run a Hotel in Rome but the sold it to have a Hotel here in San Giovanni Rotondo. So I can safely say they know exactly what a Hotel should be like and do for its guests. If you wish to stay in San Giovanni Rotondo this Hotel should be top of your list to consider. I have to give this FIVE STARS. It deserves it. Yes, there are other Hotels there and I have not been to all of them but this Hotel is a sure bet. Try it, it is very unlikely you will be disappointed.

As you walk in, you are in the ground floor wine bar-restaurant. The walls are covered with wine bottles and there are tables to sit at as well as a beautiful bar. But if you are more hungry than thirsty, then take a walk up the gorgeous blue granite stairs to the upstairs restaurant. Shortly after we sat down, the owner and chef, Nicola Russo, joined us at our table. He asked if we had any dietary restrictions and what our wine preferences were. There were no menus! He selects the freshest seasonal ingredients available and then puts together surprises! We were not disappointed! Everything was to die for scrumptious! The presentation of each plate was a work of art - for your eyes and for your stomach! Nicola is a professional sommelier and chef, so I can guarantee you won't be disappointed here! We do not speak any Italian and read online that this restaurant was good. Let me be clear...this restaurant is AWESOME!!!! First of all, the people were so nice and helpful. They literally walked us to the municiple building after our meal to help with some translation and also walked us to the best gelato store after our meal. They even called different people to help us try to find our long distance relatives. Second of all the food is out of this world!!!! If you don't know what to order just let them order for you. We had about 15 people in our party and they just kept bringing out different appetizers, main dishes, etc. The short ribs are tremendous but really everything is great. The bill was very resonable and the place is also very kid friendly. Davide, one member of the family who runs this place, will totally take care of you.
