Rooms are small but typical Euro including the lack of any shower curtain or door leaving a ridiculously inadequate barrier. If rating European hotels on their ability to douche the entire bathroom floor with the shower this would be a 10 (meaning you should probably build an ark!) Fixtures and lighting have all been modernized, the wifi internet is free with a password and faster than many upscale places I have stayed in and the bedding is comfortable. What is lacking is air conditioning so a stay here in summer can feel like a sauna (I recommend room 10 which faces a shaded back courtyard and is quiet, cooler and comes with a cool dwarf sized door cut into the cement for entry!) breakfast included in your rate and is a reasonable Euro selection of charcuterie, bread, fruit and cereal. For those of you addicted to a brand name experience, a stunning breakfast buffet and a spa within, go elsewhere. But to have a period experience in Salzburg, I would stay here again.

My friend inquired about check in again, and not only did he check us in, but upgraded us. This was the only hotel room where we truly had separated twin beds, which was great. The beds were pretty firm, the pillows were fluffy and wonderful, and I slept well. The bathroom was one of the largest we've had and very modern. I appreciated the towel warmers and the lovely lotion and bath gel (scented with what seemed like a mix of cedar with subtle notes of citrus)....I would buy this stuff at home if I could. The shower size was one of more generous I've had on this trip. Each bedside table came with a delicious lemon cookie. The T.v. had quite a lot of channels, though not many in English. The hotel is about a10 minute walk from the train station and equal time (in the opposite direction) to the Mirabel square; from the square, it is another 10 minute walk to most of the main Christmas markets. Breakfast was included at the hotel restaurant and was perfectly adequate. One of the best aspects of this hotel was how quiet it was at night, without the noise of partiers we had during other hotel stays in our tour. Would highly recommend this hotel.

Family travelers should avoid this hotel…read more We booked through Priceline for 1 room, 2 adults, and 2 children for 3 nights, and the booking clearly showed the children included. Despite that, late at night, the hotel demanded an additional charge for the children and told us we would have to leave immediately if we did not pay. We tried to resolve the issue calmly, but the situation became aggressive and intimidating. The owner is an aggressive person, he attacked me and grabbed my phone for hostage, even though it was our main way to communicate and manage things while traveling internationally. My wife was treated harshly when she asked for the phone back, our children became scared, we had to call the police. The room also had major problems: many insects/flies, dirty and smelly sheets, and a second sleeping area/loft that felt unsafe. The ceiling was extremely low, the stairs were narrow and dangerous, and cables were in the way. It did not feel safe or practical for a family, especially at night. If you want a peaceful vacation without stressful surprises, I strongly recommend avoiding this hotel. This place is a scam! They charge hundreds of dollars through priceline and then they ask for additional crazy insane amounts of money for no reason. I never recommend this crappy hotel!

Here are just a few of the many things we liked: - The gorgeous, quiet, and immaculately clean room. It was by far the most spacious of any we stayed in, and had AC, which of course isn't always true in Europe. The bed was exceptionally comfortable, and we enjoyed the balcony. The bathroom had a separate WC room and lovely shower, although I should mention that the sliding doors to the bathroom itself are glass (clearly meant more for couples than friends). - The hotel is both very modern and so charming. We loved the spectacular mountain views, watching the rabbits in their hutch, and playing ping pong on the porch! Also, it's worth noting that this hotel has an elevator. - The breakfast was delicious, with an outstanding selection - croissants, seeded rolls, cold cuts, cheeses, Nutella and jams, muesli, bacon and sausage, eggs, fresh cut fruit... even smoothies one morning! - The wellness center is amazing, and features three different saunas and a beautiful room with chairs to just stretch out and relax. We found this so rejuvenating after a challenging hike. - The professional and very responsive staff. On the first morning, our showerhead wouldn't remain upright and we reported it before leaving for the day. By the time we returned in the late afternoon, it was fixed. It's important to be aware that Hotel Garni Frauenschuh is located about 20 minutes by bus outside of Salzburg's city center. However, the 21 bus is reliable and stops just outside the hotel, so navigating back and forth without a car is very simple.

I was tired from traveling and did not want to get in the car to find somewhere in the dark to eat. I am so happy that I did. The food was absolutely amazing! This was one of the few strudels that I actually liked as well. There was no rush and we were able to enjoy ourselves, the food and drinks. The front desk staff (young lady) was extremely helpful and seemed to be doing the work of 5 people. When we got to our room we discovered that it was only set up for one guest and she immediately left the desk and came to assist setting it up. Quickly learned that it really does take a village to put a duvet in a duvet cover :-) The room was perfect, clean, quiet. The bathroom shower had hot water and great water pressure. Plenty of parking. Breakfast was included and was fine for us to tide us over and send us off on our journey. Thank you to the great staff and chef.
