I was a good customer of Taxpert, returning year after year. I had no complaints until I received a letter from NY State saying that one of my past returns was not prepared correctly and that I must pay $9000 immediately. It seemed to me it would be a simple problem and that all I would need to do is contact Taxpert. Not so. I called Taxpert and advised that the agent who prepared my return was no longer employed a by them so there was nothing they could do. I objected and explained that it was my understand that Taxpert would stand behind their returns regardless of who prepared it. I was transferred to the Manager/Owner and he asked me to send him the letter from NY State. I sent him the letter, registered, with no reply. I called many times, left a message many times with no answer. I sent a letter, Federal Express, with no answer. All I wanted was a little assistance from Taxpert in correcting one of their returns that the NY Tax Department said was prepared incorrectly... I was ignored by everyone at Taxpert including the owner/manager. In the end I was forced to go, and pay, a CPA to resolve the problem for me. Taxpert had indeed made a mistake on my return in which the CPA I hired easily repaired and the issue was resolved. Taxperts claim they stand behind their returns.. that is not my experience. A big part of using a tax preparer is their willingness to assist a customer in the event an error is found in that is found to be their responsibility. So I would advise "Buyer Beware" when considering using Taxpert to prepare a document as important as a tax return is. If a tax preparer will not stand behind their work, why use a tax preparer?
