But, instead, he took a ton of time to fill me in on what he was doing, history of the architecture of the place/pipes, showing me his method, helping me understand what was involved, searching for the outside thing covered by weeds in the backyard (not his fault, took up his time!), and simply providing me an education in something that probably another person could have ignored and just provided the results. As a homeowner, landlord and real estate professional, I'm always having the need to get sewer work done, or have clients that need it. I've worked with lots and lots of sewer and drain companies and have several that I've liked using. After a peculiar problem with a clients home yeilded multiple drain services to visit a home, my only choice was to contact my plumber for a bid on excavation work. While this seemed to be the only option, there was something really wrong because the sewer lines were all newer, and there was a strange substance blocking the line. I called my plumber and explained the situation. He encouraged me, "Chris, just call Brian at Taylor Sewer." He'd referred him before, and we'd used them, so I knew his respect for them and made the call. Brian spent the entire day working non-stop to figure out the problem. The outdoor cleanout had been destroyed when a garage was built, and whoever installed the plumbing did so incorrectly. It was a drain inspectors nightmare. Instead of walking away from the challenge, Brian tried several different ways, and stayed working until he had a solution. We still had an issue, because once he located the broken cleanout, it had to be reconnected. Taylor came back and worked for hours to try to dig down and find the cleanout. It turned out that since it was installed improperly, the sewer line was re-routed incorrectly and it was a nightmare. The fact that Taylor made it their problem and didnt' walk away until the job was done and didn't change their price, made it tolerable. When considering buying an old house in St. Louis, one of the first things you want to do is get the sewer line scoped. This crucial inspection can be the difference between going to contract or not. Three years ago, when I was looking at a home, someone recommended Taylor Sewer Service. Taylor came in and used a camera attached to a line, scoped it all out and gave the thumbs up for no problems. They even uploaded the video to YouTube so that I could see it for myself and others in the future. Total cost was $150 for the inspection. Fast forward a year later, I was looking at buying another house that had been on the market for a year. No one wanted to buy it because the sewer had backed up in the basement and potential buyers were told that the sewer line needed major repairs and would cost thousands of dollars. I decided to have Taylor take a look at it. They ran the camera and determined that there were no serious problems or damage, only some tree roots coming in that would need to be cut out. Apparently tree roots are a common problem and a simple solution is to run a cable in to cut them out. Total cost, $190 with a recommendation to check the line every year or two to see if the roots need trimmed again. ZERO stars! Brian and his son came out to cable a clogged sewer line at one of my apartment buildings. Originally Brian and his son were very friendly and easy to work with however; then Brian got the cable stuck in the sewer line. After about 30 minutes of trying to get it unstuck, Brian's demeanor quickly changed from friendly to completely unprofessional. He became very hostile and started cursing stating that he was having a great day until he got to my property and I just caused him a days worth of work because he just lost $350 worth of tools in the cable that was stuck in my sewer. He told then began to taunt me stating that the clog in my sewer had been fixed but now I have a cable stuck in the line and he was out of there. When I asked him what he was going to do about the stuck cable, he told me that it was my problem and he was not going to come back. I immediately called the office. I told his wife the reason I chose them as a service provider is that they guarantee their work and gave them an opportunity to come back out and fix their mistake. She agreed that she would talk to Brian after he calmed down and she would get back to me. The next morning she called me back and left a cryptic message to avoid liability stating that after she talk to Brian, he recommend I have someone dig up the sewer line and replace it. Taylor did a good job inspecting my sewer lateral (which had tree root problems), locating and digging out the buried cleanout trap out in the yard, and then running a larger cutter through to cut the roots. I also got a recording of the sewer lateral out of the deal. read more
